06.03.12 | Anyways, good or bad idea guys? There will be the usual caveats however: 1 ounce maximum, only to be smoked on private property, 21 and older. Btw list is albums I love blazing to, especially 3. |

06.03.12 | lol i cant' imagine what will come up next... |
Aids
06.03.12 | meanwhile, the Netherlands are working on re-criminalizing it (well it's not legal, strictly speaking, but just tolerated. no more in Jan. 2013 I'm led to believe).
for most intents and purposes, it's "legal" in Vancouver (where I live) |
Wolfhorde
06.03.12 | There generally seem to be quite some loopholes in laws around the world considering weed/certain drugs. In Germany technically only possession and dealing with it are illegal. |
jdennis31
06.03.12 | consumption is legal in the states too. i could tell a cop i just smoked a fatty and all he could do is get me for pulic intoxication |
Wolfhorde
06.03.12 | Doesn't that differ within the different federal states? |
Crysis
06.03.12 | Definitely a good idea imo |
jdennis31
06.03.12 | @wolf i could definitely see that being the case and i really don't know. i guess i should say consumption in texas is legal |
Gyromania
06.03.12 | Don't legalize, decriminalize. |
NickelbackFTL
06.03.12 | this is cool but it's not gonna get people moving to Detroit. As someone who loves the city very dearly, it's a shithole. |
Hyperion1001
06.03.12 | "Don't legalize, decriminalize."
then the illegal drug trade would still exist |
TooLateToGoBack
06.03.12 | i don't think any sane person would move there for pot. |
jdennis31
06.03.12 | yea, i love pot but didn't think for a sec it'd make me want to move there. it does give the city itself a bit more of a progressive image tho imo, and maybe there will be less violent crime if people are getting high instead |
Eclecticist
06.03.12 | "connecticut just did."
Correction, Connecticut just legalized medical marijuana. Only people with certain physical and mental illnesses can be given a prescription for it. They are the 7th state to do this.
What Detroit is doing on the other hand is quite different. |
johnnyblaze
06.03.12 | fucking great news.
ya i could see this leading to a considerable boost in tourism. rock on citizens of detroit. |

One of my friends in the US went to a doctor and just said he had trouble sleeping, and they gave him a prescription without a seconds thought. THey should just go out and legalize marijuana, not hide under the whole 'medical' facade. |

Hyperion1001
06.03.12 | everywhere else too |
Gyromania
06.03.12 | "then the illegal drug trade would still exist"
It will always exist, but it would take a HUGE hit (pun intended). There are of course benefits to
seeing it legalized, but it's the last thing dealers want to see, and legalizing it could potentially
create other problems. Both Canada and the U.S. would benefit largely from putting the money into
health care and such though. |
J0ckstrapsFTW
06.03.12 | Of course one of the most ghetto places in the US legalizes it lol |
Epilogue
06.03.12 | people talking about Detroit as if they live in Detroit...sigh |
jdennis31
06.03.12 | i read that california alone woulda had 2 billion in taxes. this was back right before they shut down all those schools and shit to compensate for a 2 billion dollar deficit..... |
jdennis31
06.03.12 | i've also read that it is unofficially america's #1 crop |
ShadowRemains
06.03.12 | "for most intents and purposes, it's "legal" in Vancouver (where I live)"
yeeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhhh buddy |
FromDaHood
06.03.12 | It sucks that it's on private property only because Detroit could become the Holland of the states- drug tourism, visiting casinos etc. could be a boon for the local economy. |
Gyromania
06.03.12 | "i've also read that it is unofficially america's #1 crop"
Of course it is, it's the most beneficial crop on the face of the earth. Cannabis more so for its medicinal benefits, but hemp does it all. Aside from pharmaceutics, hemp is extremely beneficial for its fiber, seeds, and many, many other reasons: textiles, biodegradable plastics, paper, building material, health food (hemp cereal, milk/soy, tofu, etc., are all very good for oneself), and the products formed from it are of the highest quality (especially in clothing). It's one of the earliest domesticated plants known to humankind, and we can trace its use all the way back to ancient Rome. |

06.03.12 | y'all claimin detroit when you live 20 miles away |
jdennis31
06.03.12 | ^indeed i have a book of lists of hemp and marijuana uses and it is long. also, what constitutes as private property? if a business owner owns his/her property on which the business operates, could people smoke there? like a coffee shop owned on private property? |
jdennis31
06.03.12 | fromdahood is the only one that said he was from detroit. and i guess the nickleback guy. what are you

HitlerIsGod
06.03.12 | "maybe there will be less violent crime if people are getting high instead"
lol yeah, thats how things work. maybe bin laden should have smoked a joint and the whole world would be at peace, you know, man? |
Satellite
06.03.12 | fromdahood is from like west bloomfield or some shit. it's pretty much the polar opposite of detroit despite its proximity. |

06.03.12 | "if a business owner owns his/her property on which the business operates, could people smoke there? like a coffee shop owned on private property?"
No, it's still a crime (I'm pretty sure).
"i can't even fathom what your reasoning behind this is"
I don't doubt that. |
HitlerIsGod
06.03.12 | "maybe if you smoke a joint you'll quit being a douche"
i used to be a stoner (and still am occasionally) and im still just as much of a douche as i was before. lick my balls. |
jdennis31
06.03.12 | @gyromania just so we're on the same page, i mean if this law gets passed? |
jdennis31
06.03.12 | well that's cool that you're happy being a douche. you must find it beneficial in some way to be a douche considering you're apparently self aware enough to realize that you are in fact a douche |
sifFlammable
06.03.12 | wait so detroit is legalising actual marijuana, not just medicinal?
is that the first ever in the US? |
loveisamixtape
06.03.12 | California claims to only have it legalized medicinally but if a cop catches you with pot he doesn't do shit about it in most cases |

06.03.12 | "Correction, Connecticut just legalized medical marijuana. Only people with certain physical and mental illnesses can be given a prescription for it. They are the 7th state to do this."
Same for Colorado. But it's not like getting a script for it is in any way difficult. several of my friends have their cards.
|
WeepingBanana
06.03.12 | "I don't doubt that."
i mean is your concern that big business will control the plant and mass produce it with pesticides and growth hormones like they do tobacco? cause if so that's a valid concern, but there are ways to legalize it and also make it so that doesn't happen.
if i'm missing the point, please enlighten me |
jdennis31
06.03.12 | ^i've never even thought about that..... |
eternium
06.03.12 | Colorado and Washington are also voting on whether to make it legal or not in November.
All it takes it one state. Five years later, when the prisons are less populated and state budgets are healthier, you'll see it start to spread. |

06.03.12 | Every time I hear Detroit mentioned, I think of that one scene in Scary Movie 4 and it makes me laugh (aka the only funny scene in SM4). |

06.03.12 | legal or illegal makes no sense
the big money goes to the same people |
eternium
06.03.12 | "the big money goes to the same people "
No, it doesn't. Illegal it goes to a black market filled with violence. Legal it goes to whatever Americans can grow it and distribute it without any needs for violence because there's no problem transporting it. |
loveisamixtape
06.03.12 | why the fuck would it go to the same people if it were legalized?
government regulation takes away having to go through a bunch of sketchy black people to obtain it |

but if it's legal then prisons won't be nearly as packed! and pharma companies won't be able to produce medicines that have more side effects than remedies! think of the horror |
eternium
06.03.12 | Actually the largest lobbies against legalizing marijuana include the pharmaceutical companies, for-profit prisons, and police unions. |
YetAnotherBrick
06.03.12 | "but if it's legal then prisons won't be nearly as packed! and pharma companies won't be able to produce medicines that have more side effects than remedies!"
lol, they'll still probably produce those medicines, but hopefully if weed is legalized more people will start just smoking weed instead of ingesting a bunch of mysterious chemicals that the TV told them would help.

nah there'd probably still be people who think doing something with such a negative stigma attached to it in our society isn't worth getting rid of a migraine
