07.12.12 | i'm predicting that the deathcore kids will come in and say "breakdowns". Don't ask me why, i'm just perceptive like that, i pick up on shit |
Turtlestlker
07.12.12 | I like riffs. |
KSK1
07.13.12 | I don't think there are really any actual "deathcore kids" on this site besides Eulogize. Also In really love melody and emotion in music. |

07.13.12 | Gotta be atmosphere for me. A musical environment you can delve into and immerse yourself in. Devin Townsend is a master of it. |

07.13.12 | Wasn't sure Eulogize was still even on the site any more, but anyways....
Music with an atmosphere that drags you in and keeps you wandering about the landscape is always a plus. |

07.13.12 | My favorite is drone/dark ambient music that grows on you only after the 37th time and also could be used to initiate you into a cult or induce you into a coma but is acceptable to other nerds on the Internet |
TheFonz123
07.13.12 | @recspecs I havent looked at your ratings or anything but based on that black metal is right up your alley man |
Trebor.
07.13.12 | black metal is good for naps |
TheFonz123
07.13.12 | black metal is good for anything but especially cold and rainy/snowy nights |
OnlyAnchors
07.13.12 | those parts in hardcore songs where its only the bass and the singer saying some fiery ass shit. also atmosphere. |
bungy
07.13.12 | Black metal doesn't mean metal for black people there |
TheFonz123
07.13.12 | you could have fooled me |

07.13.12 | When a singer keeps repeating like some really fucking awesome line and you're like screaming along to it and your mom is like shut the fuck up
for example: "And we are, DESPERATE KIDS doing extraordinary things, and we are JUST LIKE YOUUUUUU" |
SgtPepper
07.13.12 | That's a really tough and good question.
I'm tied between guitar solos, drum solos, and overly trippy synth effects. |
TheFonz123
07.13.12 | I find myself doing that with saves the day and other punk music like streetlight manifesto |

yeah but the saddest landscape does this in like every song to the point where it starts getting considerably less awesome. |
Masochist
07.13.12 | Sometimes, I like vitrolic, tongue-in-cheek lyrics -- Bob Dylan: "Subterranean Homesick Blues"
Sometimes, I like an uplifting, tingling guitar line -- Coldplay: "Don't Panic"
Sometimes, I like a simple-but-memorable driving bass line -- The Doors: "Peace Frogs"
Sometimes, I like a dark, seething electronic thump -- Massive Attack: "Angel"
Sometimes, I like pensive, smooth, straight-from-the-barrio hip-hop production -- Black Star: "Respiration"
And sometimes, I just like a good, steady groove -- Japandroids: "Crazy/Forever"
It all depends on the mood, really. And the time of day. |
mindleviticus
07.13.12 | A part that's just completely different from what the song originally starts out as. |
Masochist
07.13.12 | ^^^ Those, by the way, when I listen to them at just the right time, are the types of things that can
send shivers down my spine and send my mind far away from what's in front of me. Also...fucking #1 is
definitely one of those things I love. The vinyl crackling on that album is half of the magic, I
promise (reminds me of a fire crackling, actually). |
TheFonz123
07.13.12 | like a complete tempo shift yeah that's awesome. There's a song on "public strain" by women that does that really well |
Masochist
07.13.12 | "A part that's just completely different from what the song originally starts out as."
That's awesome. Nine Inch Nails has "All The Love In The World," and that switch in tone in the middle is one of my favorite parts of the entire album. |

07.13.12 | Feel and touch. How you say it how you sing it how you play it. |

07.13.12 | this is pretty hard, i'd probably say emotion though. atmosphere is up there too |
ThroneOfAgony
07.13.12 | lyrics, instrumentation, emotional value (even if it's pissed off), and just atmosphere |
TheFonz123
07.13.12 | eerie atmosphere that reminds me of real-life situations is probably tied with fuzzy crackle as my favorite |
dathvada321
07.13.12 | Idk I guess atmosphere and guitar solos |
YetAnotherBrick
07.13.12 | -gotta love good lyrics
-the blending of heavy and light, especially in ways that haven't been done a million times. one example that immediately comes to mind is the flute solo in "The Manifold Curiosity" by Kayo Dot
-those big, heavy, soaring chord progressions you hear a lot in post-metal, especially with some passionate yelling over it (Isis, Cult of Luna, etc.)
-i love visceral-ness. i love it when the musicians completely lose themselves in the music, and are just so...in it that they fuck up notes, or the vocalist goes off key a little bit, etc. At the Drive-In and Glassjaw are great examples.
-this is weird actually, because i'm always thinking about stuff like this and have actually thought about making a list about it myself, but right now i can't think of any more lol, i may come back ;) |
YetAnotherBrick
07.13.12 | you should tell us more of your favorite music things potato, i'm actually pretty interested in seeing what they are haha |

07.13.12 | Harmonies that don't always stick to a third above or below. Well placed shifts in chords or even key changes that are interesting, not just a step or half step up. Also twinkly guitar [2] |

07.13.12 | Mass amounts of reverb on every instrument, including vocals |

07.13.12 | Vicious vocals with good guitar work, melodic or rythmn focused. Maybe a catchy chorus or breakdown. |

07.13.12 | Just a nice juicy buildup to a nice juicy riff, climax, chord freakout, breakdown, solo, beautiful melodic section, whatever. I'm all about a well paid off build up. |
deepintheorchard
07.13.12 | I really appreciate honesty and passion in music, I love to be able to feel the emotion of an artist. I also like those transcendental moments, where you just shudder and can't help but feeling some type of deep, profound connection to what you're hearing. That moment where it all clicks. |

"i search my bank account for traces of the forty hour weeks i've been working since last fall"
"we get up early, we go home tired, we're making money for someone else"
"hang up and fuck your nine to fives"
"a forty hour plus week sounds less appealing than living on a street"

I'm guessing you didn't 5 the Friends theme song... |
Winrar
07.13.12 | It really depends on how these "things" are implemented in the song really. I'm not really into breakdowns but the breakdown in Labyrinthian is the best part of the whole song. I really don't care for lyrics either but if a song has good lyrics, that's just a bonus. |
benkim
07.13.12 | Guitar and vocal melodies do it for me but a lot of time I want that punishing riff. |

07.13.12 | Might be general as fuck, but I just prefer loud/fast music and always have. Its almost like medicine. I dig alot of soft/slower stuff but the loud stuff gives me such a high. If working out is good for my body then metal is good for my mind. After Im done with a good metal album, or anything aggressive, its like all my stress has been drained out through the music. Then I just go on about my day frolicking through the flowers. |
