| Rev's Summer 2012 Anime Wrap-up!
quick wrap up of the summer 2012 anime season. the list is the 13 shows I
watched, ranked from best to worst. overall a decent season, and the fall is
looking to be pretty great too! (BECAUSE JOJO) | 1 | | Brian Eno and David Byrne My Life in the Bush of Ghosts
Binbougami Ga! (comedy): At the expense of the people and things around her,
Sakura has absorbed so much "happiness energy" that she has caused an energy
imbalance in the world. In order to return balance to the world, the Poverty God,
Momiji, sets out to take away Sakura's ability to absorb this energy. Will Momiji be
able to put a stop to Sakura's absorbing abilities, or will the God succumb to her
happiness? 8/10 | 2 | | Titus Andronicus Local Business
Joshiraku (comedy): An adaptation of a manga written by the author of Sayonara
Zetsubou Sensei about group of girls who discuss random things and usually reach
an unusual or humorous conclusion that's far from the initial discussion topic. 8/10
(still airing) | 3 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita (seinen/comedy/fantasy): For years, declining birth
rates have forced what's left of the human race to cede more and more territory to
other beings who have appeared to take advantage of the emptying ecological
niche. Now, only a handful of humans remain among the remnants of civilization
and Earth is dominated by faeries ?tiny, ten-inch tall creatures of surprising
intelligence. But humanity's importance isn't over quite yet, as young Watashi
learns as she makes the decision to return to her hometown and assume her
grandfather's position as an arbitrator between the races. Unfortunately, the job
isn't going to be anywhere near as simple as she expected, and it's going to take a
wisdom far beyond her years to achieve her most important mission. 8/10 | 4 | | Stumbleine Sunshine Girls
YuruYuri S2 (comedy/slice of life): The second season of Yuru Yuri continues
following four girls who take over the former room of a tea ceremony club for their
own amusement. 7/10 | 5 | | How to Dress Well Total Loss
Natsuyuki Rendezvous (josei): Hazuki may be near-sighted, but he knows true
beauty when he sees it and the delicate form of flower shop owner Rokka draws
him in like a bee to honey. So, hoping to cultivate a relationship between them,
Hazuki takes a part time job at her shop, only to discover two huge thorns
preventing the nurturing of any romance. The first, the fact that Rokka is still
grieving for her late husband Shimao, would be enough to snip most men's ardor
short, but it's the second that really threatens to make Hazuki's forlorn hopes wilt.
Because while Shimao is most definitely deceased, he hasn't yet departed and his
spirit is still living in Rokka's apartment! Except only Hazuki can see him, which
leads to a very strange romantic triangle indeed. Are Hazuki's chances with Rokka
as dead as the man who still lives in her house? Or can he somehow make love
blossom even though there's an interloper pushing up the daisies between them?
7/10 | 6 | | Nakajima Megumi Rinne no Lagrange OST
Rinne no Lagrange S2 (mecha/comedy/action): Several months have passed since
Lan and Muginami left Earth. Now in her final year of high school, Madoka spends
most of her days thinking about her friends, when Lan suddenly returns to
Kamogawa City. 7/10 | 7 | | Smoke Room Vol. 1
Sword Art Online (action/adventure): In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive
Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has
been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of
technology called Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as
the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the
game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they die
in real life. Their struggle for survival starts now... 7/10 (still ongoing) | 8 | | Deer Leap Here. Home.
Oda Nobuna no Yabou (comedy/action/romance): The historical romantic comedy
follows 17-year-old high schooler Sagara Yoshiharu who one day time-travels to
the Sengoku period, where all the major Samurai lords are cute girls. Yoshiharu
meets Oda Nobuna, the female counterpart of Oda Nobunaga, and begins to serve
her as a substitute of Kinoshita Tokichiro, who was killed. 7/10 | 9 | | Tim Hecker An Imaginary Country
Hyouka (mystery/drama): Oreki Houtarou is a minimalistic high school boy. One
day, he joins the Classic Literature Club at his elder sister's request.
There he meets Chitanda Eru, Fukube Satoshi, and Ibara Mayaka. Chitanda is a
calm beautiful girl but she turns into an embodiment of curiosity once she says,
"I'm interested in it (Watashi, Kininarimasu)". Fukube is a smiling boy with a
fantastic memory who calls himself a database. Ibara is a short girl and is strict
with others and herself. She loves Fukube, but he always dodges her approaches.
They begin to investigate a case that occurred 45 years ago. Hints of the mystery
are buried in an old collection of works of the former members of Classics Club.
The collection is titled "Hyouka." 6/10 | 10 | | maudlin of the Well Bath
Campione! (comedy/romance/action): Some people suddenly find religion, but for
16-year-old Kusanagi GoDo, it's that REALLY old time religion that's found him! As
the result of defeating the God of War in mortal combat, GoDo's stuck with the
unwanted position of Campione!, or God Slayer, whose duty is to fight Herectical
Gods whenever they try to muscle in on the local turf. Not only is this likely to
make GoDo roadkill on the Highway to Heaven, it's also a job that comes with a lot
of other problems. Like how to deal with the fact that his "enhanced status" is
attracting a bevy of overly-worshippy female followers. After all, they're just there
to aid him in his demi-godly duties, right? So why is it that their leader, the
demonically manipulative sword-mistress Erica Brandelli, seems to have such a
devilish interest in encouraging some VERY unorthodox activities? 5/10 | 11 | | Midori Aratame mashite, Hajime mashite, Midori desu.
Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai. (comedy/ecchi/romance): NEVER make a deal with
a wet goddess you've only just met. That's a lesson Ryosuke Kaga learns the hard
way when he foolishly agrees to let Lisara Restole use some of his "essence" to
stay in this world. Because despite her smoking hot appearance, Lisara's actually a
Shinigami, a Goddess of Death. However, she DOESN'T steal years off his life like
any decent Shinigami would do. Oh no, instead she sucks him dry of something
much more perverse by leeching off his lecherous spirit and draining his ability to
enjoy... er... the things that teenage boys normally spend most of their time
thinking about! And now that he's been de-debased and de-debauched by her un-
dirty trick, the poor regenerated degenerate's only hope of getting his
licentiousness renewed is to join the queen of mental-clean on her quest, since
when she leaves our mortal plane he regains his normal immorality! But the
termination of the probation of his reprobation isn't guaranteed, because
Goddesses of Death can be really harsh mistresses and it's going to be anything
but easy to go back to being sleazy! 5/10 | 12 | | Grizzly Bear Shields
Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate (drama/romance): In Japan, participation in extra-
curricular activities is as fundamental a part of an education as chalk and gym
shorts. However, not all students are overachievers, and for those like Yuki Ojima,
groups like the Food Research Club are welcome havens in which to slack-off. But
what's a slacker to do when the radical new candidate for Student Council president
announces her intent to get rid of clubs like the FRC? Well, getting the help of the
current Student Council president is a good start, but HIS suggestion is so counter-
intuitive that it's crazy: Yuki should run for the Student Council himself? And yet,
it's SO crazy that it just might work! Especially when Chisato, the chocolate-
adverse president of the FRC (and Yuki's best childhood friend,) and members of
other targeted school clubs start to join the swelling FRC army. But can this army of
goofs and goof-offs coast all the way to political victory? Or will someone have to
step up to the plate and take one for the term? 5/10 | 13 | | Converge All We Love We Leave Behind
Tari Tari (slice of life): The last year of high school is always a time of both looking
forward and looking back. Before you lives the future, alternately bright and scary.
Behind you lie memories, both happy and sad. And somehow, in the course of one
year, you have to reconcile those two and decide where your life is going to go.
For Wakana Sakai, who had started studying music, it's time to face the tragedy
that made her abandon that path. For Sawa Okita, it's about her dreams of riding
professionally. And for Konatsu Miyamoto, it's about bringing her friends together
through the magic of song. Can something as simple as the formation of a chorus
club really help solve the hurts and pangs that come with growing up? Can music
bring people together despite their differences? 4/10 | |

10.04.12 | Completely missed the summer season because I was in Japan, ironically. Jinrui wa suitai shimashita was the only one that really struck my interest from the premise. And I kind of wanted to see Hyouka because the animation looked awesome and it has like every famous seiyuu ever in it it seems. This season I'm excited about Jojo and Shin Sekai Yori, as well as Psycho Pass. I'll see how the community likes Little Buster because I love Key but that show looks bleh.
Above all, Evangelion 3.0 comes out next month and I'm shitting my pants over it. Ahem. | twlight

10.07.12 | Hyperion: at the risk of sounding incredibly hipster, anime offers a level of thoughtfulness that western television rarely, if ever, touches. Those of us within the fold who crave good drama can't consume enough of it. | dimsim3478
10.08.12 | ^Pretty much. | Hyperion1001
10.08.12 | i wasnt aware that underaged panty shots and gratuitous fanservice counted as "eastern thoughtfulness" | Rev
