Growlers/raspers Me Likey

Okay so Death/black metal and the like used to consist of around 70-80% of my musical tastes, rrso I thought I'd pay homage to some "guttered" vocalists I admire. And it's NOT in order
1Opeth
Blackwater Park

Mikael Akerfeldt. Probably my favourite of them all, such unrelenting power.
2In Flames
Colony

Anders Friden. I used to be an IF fanboy, and even now from a rational point
of view Anders has to be one of the most diverse death metal vocalist I've ever
heard.
3Satyricon
Now, Diabolical

Sigurd 'Satyr' Wongraven. Very different from the typical BM raspers, a great
unique timbre. Love his vocals.
4Amorphis
Eclipse

Tomi Joutsen. I was pleasantly shocked when I heard his growls, they're very dark
and power filled. He uses them scarcely but they're definitely one of my favourites.
5Behemoth
The Apostasy

Adam 'Nergal' Darski. Need I say anything? The vocals are demonic in their
proportions, next time the neighbours annoy you, just play some Behemoth, you'll
see a "for sale" sign on their lawn the next day.
6Carcass
Swansong

Jeff Walker. Listening to his rasps makes my throat hurt. Great delivery.
7Death
Symbolic

Chuck Schuldiner. He has influenced a whole genre, and has a very distinct growl.
8Dark Tranquillity
Damage Done

Mikael Stanne. A very dynamic vocalist with a wide range who doesn't mind
experimenting, that keeps him interesting.
9Norther
Dreams of Endless War

Petri Lindroos. High pitched and with incredible clarity.
10Ihsahn
After

Vegard 'Ihsahn' Tveitan. Black metal rasps in a progressive metal setting, they fit
well I say.
11Children Of Bodom
Follow the Reaper

Alexi Laiho
12Arch Enemy
Doomsday Machine

Angela Gossow. With her multiple layers of growls she can make a grown man wet
himself.
13 Dissection
Storm of the Light's Bane

Jon Nodtveidt
14Hypocrisy
A Taste Of Extreme Divinity

Peter Tagtgren. Listen to "Apocalyse", he pretty much shows his whole range in
one song.
15Edge of Sanity
Crimson

Dan Swano
16Ensiferum
Ensiferum

Jari Maenpaa
17Borknagar
Universal

Andreas 'Vintersorg' Hedlund
18Lamb of God
Ashes Of The Wake

Randy Blythe. The only non-death/black metal entry, I just love the way his growls
sound, they leave me wanting more.
19Ebony Tears
Tortura Insomniae

Johnny Wranning. Some songs sound like rip offs of bigger melodeath bands,
especially IF, but the vocals are terrific.
20At the Gates
Slaughter Of The Soul

Tomas Lindberg. A band that helped start the melodeath movement, his vocals
remind me of Anders Friden at times, which is a good thing.
