10.15.12 | 5 = Absolutely phenomenal music that also has a lot of emotional significance to me or really impacts me in some way (Elliott Smith, Devin Townsend [in all his iterations], In the Aeroplane Over the Sea)
4.5 = Truly fantastic music that is nearly impossible for anyone to really hate (Pink Floyd, BtMI!, Buckthead)
4 = Excellent music, past that "worth keeping" point, also my largest rating pool (Scale the Summit, RX Bandits, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky)
3.5 = Good music, but falls short of that point where it is worth keeping on my mp3 player (Wilco, The Black Dahlia Murder, Revocation, ect.)
3 = Hard for me to listen to, but might be different for someone else (Sunn O))), Steve Reich, Meshuggah)
2.5 = A chore to listen to, but not completely devoid of all quality (Unearth, Early Sufjan Stevens, Metallica's Load/Reload)
2 = A failure of an album, but not trash (St. Anger, The Resistance (Muse), Black Tide)
1.5 = Absolute trash, but not intentional trash (Puddle of Mudd, Staind, 3 Doors Down, ect.)

If an album doesn't have many votes and I really like it and it has like a lower average rating than it should, I usually rate it higher than I would in hopes to get the average rating higher.
If the album has like over 200 votes and my rate would really do nothing to it, I just rate it what I think it should.
I'm too lazy to really get into details for what I look for in music, but how catchy the music is a big deal to me, so if it's not that catchy (few exceptions), then it'll most likely get a high rating from me. but, you know, it has to be a good kind of catchy. |
