My Top Ten Songs Of 2012 |
1 | The Mars Volta In Absentia
A dividing track, from a dividing album. The beauty of this track comes from the
dark
and static intro accompanied by one of Juan Alderete's best bass lines ever
giving a
feeling of distance and chaos. The nature of the lyrics written and performed to
the T.
As well as tight drumming. Though the shinning moment on here easily being the
chorus wrought with so much emotion and precision that it's value as a song
neither
depreciates nor gets old due to the unexpected turn towards the end. Phenomenal. |
2 | High On Fire King Of Days
High on Fire has truly topped themselves with this track. Containing what they
best, psychedelia, stoner metal and mythology into one track with some of the
best guitar
work Matt Pike has done since Sleep. This song gives me a hard on. |
3 | Coheed and Cambria Key entity extract: Domino the destitute
Arguably the best track coheed has released since "Welcome Home"(or not). From
the heartfelt lyrics coming from Claudio woven so well between his relationship
with
former Rite Aid enthuse and bass player Mic Todd and the well thought out
concept
of a boxer's climb to the top among corruption and confusion. This song is
surely
going to make any fan of fantasy and prescription drugs list. |
4 | Amenra Nowena
From the desperately sang intro to the overbearing verse topped off with Scott
kelly's best vocal performance of the year. The ending guitar line does what
every
guitar player wants to do ideally for ending a record, summing up an album while
simultaneously making you want to press the repeat button in your player.
Fantastic. |
5 | converge Aimless arrow
Quite the change for the hardcore kings that is Converge. This song sees the
band
heading in a fresh direction with some of their most inspired lyrics in this
bands
decade plus catalog. Fantastic. |
6 | Swans mother of the world
All I need to say is that rhythm.... |
7 | Blaqk Audio Bliss
I'm not much of a electro fan(or whatever you want to call this) but this song
got so
many listens and put onto so many lists, no wonder I was getting dirty looks
from
my family for humming this so many times. |
8 | Between the buried and me Astral Body
Another amazing track from a disappointing album. This track had me from the
start
from its stellar intro to the clean guitar duet in the middle then the solo. The
song had
all the best elements of any BTBAM album....THE GUITARS! |
9 | Baroness Eula
Yellow and green was pretty disappointing but this track was the only one worth
coming back to. |
10 | Cloudkicker Seattle
One of my favorite solo artists making one of my favorite songs about one of my
favorite cities to dream about. This track is one of the most relaxing and
hopeful
songs I've heard all year. |
