2012 In Albums
My best albums of 2012.
1
Loma Prieta
I.V.
screamo/hardcore - It came out early in the year and no album was able to top it.
2
Irreversible
Ashes
post-metal/sludge - It may be considered an EP but it's thirty-five minutes long, longer than many LPs.
3
Mount Eerie
Clear Moon
indie/folk - Phil Elverum
4
Swans
The Seer
post-punk - Michael Gira's best since Soundtracks for the Blind.
5
Mirrorring
Foreign Body
ambient/folk - Liz Harris (Grouper) with Jesy Fortino (Tiny Vipers).
6
Proud Father
Hearu Shi no Proud Father
ambient/noise/drone - Dark and versatile. http://proudfather1.bandcamp.com/album/hearu-shi-no-proud-father
7
Saaad
Confluences
ambient/drone/field recordings - Water sounds and beautiful ambient. http://saaad.bandcamp.com/album/confluences
8
Converge
All We Love We Leave Behind
metalcore - Riffs and riffs.
9
Vampillia and Nadja
The Primitive World
drone/doom - Aidan Baker's best work in awhile helped greatly by Vampillia's touches.
10
The Blue Letter
Love Is Not Control
screamo/post-metal - Everyone who knows this band loves them.
11
Neurosis
Honor Found in Decay
post-metal/sludge - Neurosis
12
Killer Mike
R.A.P. Music
hip-hop - Angry yet smooth Atlanta rap.
13
Anoice
The Black Rain
post-rock/classical - The Japanese make some of the best music.
14
Beau Navire
Lumens
screamo - Best band at mixing pretty cleans with chaotic screamo since Funeral Diner.
15
The Mountain Goats
Transcendental Youth
indie/folk - John Darnielle
16
Mount Eerie
Ocean Roar
folk/black metal - Phil Elverum
17
Windy and Carl
We Will Always Be
drone/ambient - Pretty.
18
You Blew It!
Grow Up, Dude
emo - Part of what you could call a recent wave of American Football influenced emo but excellent quality.
19
witxes
Sorcery/Geography
dark ambient - name your price http://witxes.bandcamp.com/album/sorcery-geography
20
Lil Ugly Mane
Mista Thug Isolation
hip-hop/drugs - Memphis meets Texas, born in Richmond.
21
Amenra
Mass V
post-metal/sludge - Not as good as Mass IIII but still awesome.
22
Old Man Gloom
NO
sludge/ambient - OMG's best since Seminar III: Zozobra.
23
Death Grips
The Money Store
experimental hip-hop - You either get what they are trying to do or you hate it.
24
Dweller on the Threshold
Dweller on the Threshold
folk/ambient - Dark and unpredictable.
25
Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier
An Age of Wonder
ambient/drone - Beautiful second track.
26

27
Eight
Nayt Kauas
screamo/post-metal - name your price http://eightband.bandcamp.com/album/n-yt-kauas
28
We Were Skeletons
Blame and Aging
screamo - My favorite album of theirs.
29
Vales
Clarity
screamo - Second best EP.
30
Nadja
Dagdr?m
drone/doom - Their first album in a couple of years but not as good as the collaboration with Vampillia obviously.
31
Capacities
The Unexamined Life
screamo - I think this is considered an album but it's only 13 minutes long.

i don't get the hate for CoK honestly they're not that bad
eternium
01.02.13
I mean, they have some moments that are decent but so much sounds forced and fake (especially the sludgy parts) to me. I normally love sludge influenced hardcore.
