not your typical victory records post hardcore band. they had an audible rbassist, a highly rtechnical guitarist, an rrawesome drummer and a great rvocalist. awesome band who made a lot rof great music. the singer's project rrrnight verses has an EP out now and it's also stellar. | 1 | | The Sleeping The Big Deep
essentially their no devolucion. a fantastic record that took them in a different
direction then they had gone before. their only record without any harsh vocals,
there's a lot more emphasis on atmosphere and their lyrics also took a big step up
in quality. i never expected them to make a record like this after what it takes,
which is essentially the polar opposite of this sound. every song is masterfully done.
RECOMMENDED TRACKS: retiring spies (change your life), dark days, the big deep,
black waves (vaya con dios) | 2 | | The Sleeping Believe What We Tell You
an absolutely incredible album to debut with. technical, unique, and just plain
awesome, this is post hardcore done right. a little rough around the edges, but it's
more ambitious than the rest of their discography and even has a few masterpieces
of its own. the big breakdown songs are classics. RECOMMENDED TRACKS: believe
what we tell you, the big breakdown day 1, the big breakdown day 2, 15 on the
freeway | 3 | | The Sleeping Question & Answers
a more polished release than their debut, but also less good. it's still an excellent
album and holds up well to this day, but it isn't quite as inventive or memorable as
their debut. it's basically how boxer is to alligator, for me; the preceding album
didn't have the same shiny production, but the quality of the songs was better.
most people prefer this album to their others, though. RECOMMENDED TRACKS: king
of hearts, heart beatz, the big breakdown day 3, still | 4 | | The Sleeping What It Takes
showed the band going in a much heavier direction after Q&A. the sound of this
album is closer to metalcore than anything they had done previously, but their
sound is still very unique as there are some awesome piano solos throughout and
the theremin gives the music a horror movie vibe. not as good as the preceding two
albums, and it can get a little monotonous, but still a very solid record. the
production also sounds a little flat when compared to Q&A or the big deep, which i
suspect had to do with the production change; their other albums were all
produced by mike birnbaum and chris bittner. RECOMMENDED TRACKS: you'll be a
corpse before your time, bomb the world, should have let me leave, bad religion | |
