Keyblade
02.14.13 | 4 and 25 are just too good. also u know breathless, fuck yes |

CelestialDust
02.14.13 | Well, looks like I have my work cut out for me |
foxblood
02.14.13 | hi ethics! u might like 93, i could be wrong but it's really fuckin good
cool celestial, dig through the list. there's a lot of essentials |
CelestialDust
02.15.13 | I've been randomly browsing some bands on spotify and am really digging starflyer 59. Nice list! |
OnlyAnchors
02.15.13 | this list seriously rules like woah. what are like the 5 or so albums on here that sound the most like radio dept????? im into the pretty/sedate gazing as opposed to noise gazing |
foxblood
02.15.13 | for some pretty, dreamier stuff check out 63, 25, and 93. |
eternium
02.15.13 | Most of this isn't dense enough for me and I don't have enough time to listen to each one to figure out which ones fit my shoegaze love (mainly MBV, Slowdive, and Medicine). Skywave is awesome though. |
Aids
02.15.13 | dude, nice effort. massive list. |
DadKungFu
02.15.13 | not a shoegaze fan as such, but excellent list. |
Chortles
02.15.13 | holy shit dude this is massive, great job dude
bookmarked hard for whenever i go on a hard shoegaze binge |
CK
02.15.13 | Now here is a list where I may actually go through and check out every item |
foxblood
02.15.13 | awesome dude, please do. i'm trying to give this stuff more recognition.
also if any of you have any trouble finding some albums i might be able to help you out |
YankeeDudel
02.15.13 | cool ass list fox. what are your top 3 albums here that arent obvious?
ive heard about a third of the more well known stuff. |
Keyblade
02.15.13 | this list is awesome isn't it |
foxblood
02.15.13 | thx yankee. lets see, idk what you've heard but i'd say 12,29,42, and 89 are all worth checkin out if you haven't heard 'em. |
foxblood
02.15.13 | also 32 if you haven't heard it |
YankeeDudel
02.15.13 | yea ive heard all those besides 29 so ill grab that one now. shoegaze is cool but honestly its not really something I need 50 more albums of ya know. ill bookmark this though and rummage through it if Im in a fuzzy mood ha. |
Keyblade
02.15.13 | u can never have too much gaze
fox do u dig pinkshinyultrablast? |
foxblood
02.15.13 | ah damn alright. 29 is fucking amazing idk how it isn't more popular. haha then how have you heard all of those if you aren't all that into the genre? |
foxblood
02.15.13 | i've heard of them (because of 40) but i haven't listened to them yet |
Keyblade
02.15.13 | dude you'd love em. it's got a japanese quirkiness about it which is weird because they're russian |
foxblood
02.15.13 | damn i'm always down with some japanese quirkiness. i think the only reason i haven't checked 'em out is because i didn't like the album cover haha. and i'm picky with nu-gaze (this list is mostly 90's) will check tho for sure |
YankeeDudel
02.15.13 | Never said I wasnt all that into the genre. I already dig like 100+ shoegaze albums, many of them here. Its more I just dont really want 50 more of them lol. Its a good but not a very diverse genre to me. Alot of bands are basically just mbv / slowdive / ride worship not done as well. |
foxblood
02.15.13 | true, but that's mostly because it was a shortly-lived and mostly unsuccessful genre. there are also a ton of post-punk bands that had a gaze sound much different than mbv or anything |
Keyblade
02.15.13 | like breathless. mmmh breathless |
YankeeDudel
02.15.13 | yea it is weird how it wasnt more commercially successful. i guess not enough easily understood vocals and choruses or somethin. |
foxblood
02.15.13 | people like shit music it's pretty simple
well the actual answer is grunge largely, it was in a way a similar but much more accessible and radio-friendly genre. |
foxblood
02.15.13 | nirvana happened basically |
Chortles
02.15.13 | nirvana > any shoegaze band lOL |
foxblood
02.15.13 | lol i actually jammed some nirvana earlier, nevermind is not very good but in utero is that true shit |
YankeeDudel
02.15.13 | yea but I dont think thats the reason. the alt rock and indie crowds would have definitely taken more to shoegaze if it was pushed more. I didnt hear anything about it growing up. not even mbv really. not enough press is what I think. like i said I dont think they knew how to market it since the vocals were more subdued or whatever. |
Chortles
02.15.13 | some of my friends would agree tho a few of them are avid nirvana worshipers that think kurt was the savior of music |
Chortles
02.15.13 | and yea in utero brings the hard jamz |
foxblood
02.15.13 | well yeah it's complicated, i don't know the actual answer but i do think the grunge explosion lessened peoples interest in america. shoegaze was barely even a thing outside of the uk |
Keyblade
02.15.13 | grunge also hurt metal, yea fuck that genre |
YankeeDudel
02.15.13 | grunge was great. post-grunge is what sucked. |
YankeeDudel
02.15.13 | and yea thats it fox. i just realized like all the top shoegaze bands are from the uk. |
Chortles
02.15.13 | creed?? |
foxblood
02.15.13 | yes creed |
foxblood
02.15.13 | yeah most american shoegaze bands had no audience and didn't do well commercially at all. as to why the scene died in the uk in the first place i'm not quite sure |
YankeeDudel
02.15.13 | i guess britpop happened. the verve is one example of a shoegaze band that went all britpop. even though bittersweet symphony is my jam yo |
foxblood
02.15.13 | ah i haven't heard urban hymns |
Chortles
02.15.13 | Scott stapp is my homeboy |
YankeeDudel
02.15.13 | scott stapp thinks what creed did was completely original. that they started something entirely new and have nothing to
do with pearl jam and the other early grunge bands. he thinks he doesnt sound anything like eddie vedder. and that was
after he jumped off a building to kill himself only to have T.I. call for help to save him. |
Capablanca
02.15.13 | Nice call with 61. |
Masochist
02.15.13 | Momumental list, sir. Though I'm disappointed there was no Starflyer 59 on here... |
NOTINTHEFACE
02.15.13 | It's awesome to see 43 on here. I had no idea anyone on this site knew they existed. I definitely prefer their albums "Come Over to the Deepend" and "No Thank You" and recommend them if you haven't heard them.
Awesome list otherwise. This kind of music is kind of my comfort music right now, so this will be a great reference for me for months to come. |
Havey
02.15.13 | incredible work man |
ViperAces
02.15.13 | 100 is pretty cul |
foxblood
02.15.13 | @masochist then look at 19:]
@notintheface yeah i'm aware that's not one of their more popular albums but it's the only one i've heard so far, will definitely check out their other stuff
and havey thx brotha |
NOTINTHEFACE
02.15.13 | Everything they've ever done is worthwhile so there's really no way to go wrong with any of their albums.
Thanks to this list, Luminous Orange, Jesus Fever, and Tokyo Shoegazer are on my hard drive. |
ITsHxCTOASTER
02.16.13 | Holy shit this list is so awesome, gotta check out so much |

demigod!
02.18.13 | will do |
foxblood
02.18.13 | yeah 4 is a good start |
demigod!
02.18.13 | also i cant believe you like isnt anything more than loveless man whoa |
foxblood
02.18.13 | well i don't think it's 'better' than loveless. i like all 3 of their albums practically the same for different reasons, but if i had to pick just one i'd prob go with isn't anything |
Havey
04.12.13 | holy shit Pigment by ecstasy of saint theresa is so good |
foxblood
04.16.13 | ^ dude i know, it's better than the majority of the more famous shoegaze albums out there |
teeawgo

TalonsOfFire
02.23.16 | Awesome list and always happy to discover more shoegaze, but it's missing one of the best of the genre: Stella Luna - Stargazer |
