03.02.13 | It's just another way they'll sell half a game for full price and make you spend 30 more dollars to buy/download the other half of the game on release day.
Also, ea has a habit of taking great studios and sucking the life out of them [2] |

03.02.13 | Electronic entertainment is a business. If customers embrace this new practice, it will stick. If they don't, it won't. Marketplace 101. |
lucasjcockcroft
03.02.13 | it could be different
like with fight night, I only bought career and vs mode online, instead of having to spend the 30 to get everything I spent 10 and only got the parts of the game I wanted
like say they make it so I can buy just he play now version of FIFA for 15 instead of the whole game which I don't care about with soccer games
If it works like that, than its cool |
kris.
03.02.13 | ea fucking blows dick agreed |
MO
03.02.13 | yea they did this with dead space 3, fucking lol |
TrstN01
03.02.13 | @lucasjcockcroft That would be a good use for it, and I could totally get behind that. EA won't do it that way though, guaranteed. |

Right? |

03.02.13 | EA screwed up battlefield 3, mass effect 3, deadspace 3 and Crysis 3 for me. They should have done what
Valve does and just not make a game with the number 3 in it lol.
I hate everything about EA but it's partly the customers fault for being so gullible into pre-ordering
something to get some stupid skin pack. |
ConcubinaryCode
03.02.13 | the games ive seen microtransactions in are just shortcuts really. play for 2 hours to buy a gun with in game currency or pay 2 dollars to get it in an instant. a lot of gamers are making it a bigger deal than it is. ea has done worse stuff. |
toxin.
03.02.13 | ^^
it's the slippery slope. once microtransactions become normal, they'll start creeping up into gameplay. I mean it's not EA but look at FF13-2... fucking ridiculous. Pretty sure they had that ending DLC up like a week after the release of the game. |
TrstN01
03.02.13 | Don't forget the clusterfuck of Dragon Age 2. And EA is already pretty close to mastering Day 1 DLC. |

IAMERROR
03.02.13 | I'm ok with micro-transactions in games that are purely cosmetic. I play a game called Heroes of Newerth (Dota-esque) and that's how its run. It's a good system because the games can have a longer life-cycle due to being able to make money aside from the one-time game purchase. That being said, I have a big problem with pay-for-power micro-transactions and Day 1 DLC. Day 1 DLC basically tells the customer that the company didn't want to include that into the actual game so they can sell something extra to you. |
someguest
03.02.13 | "yeah, not playing video games anymore = maturity.
right?"
In the big scheme of things, yes. |

03.02.13 | Comparing to battlefield 2 and Bfbc2, Battlefield 3 was horrible sorry |

03.02.13 | It all boils down to wasting time. You could be doing something productive. Of course, this is hypocritical of me as I waste time on a music web site, but you get the idea. |

03.02.13 | so anyone who does anything simply for fun or because they enjoy it is immature because theyre not being productive? i get that its a waste of time, but if its not consuming your life and its not preventing you from getting things done, i dont see the problem. |

03.02.13 | That same logic can be applied to any form of entertainment though. I guess if you spend time watching movies, reading books, browsing the Internet, etc. that must make you immature too cause you're not being productive, right? |

03.02.13 | "so anyone who does anything simply for fun or because they enjoy it is immature because theyre not being productive? i get that its a waste of time, but if its not consuming your life and its not preventing you from getting things done, i dont see the problem."
A lot of it is just escapism. If you're successful in reality you can escape in real life! I'm really just speaking for myself. Pardon me. |
toxin.
03.02.13 | @Kman the difference is that reading books and watching movies (though it specifically depends on what you're reading/watching... and there are fewer movies of this type) broadens your horizons. You get new perspectives, new themes, new mindsets. Games can do that too, but not your average FPS or RPG.
Still, there's nothing wrong in some escapism. I wish I had some video games beyond Pokemon to play in college, just so when I have 2-3 hours to kill on, say, a lazy Friday after an exhausting week (i.e. today) then I can just kick back and relax. Or even a good show to follow |

03.02.13 | Yeah I get what you mean toxin. That's why I've started to be more interested in more story oriented games as of late, which can actually be even more engaging than a lot of books and movies if done really well. With that said though, I do still enjoy a good deal of FPS games just for having a fun time. |

Word. And definitely, FPS's are an awesome way to kill time, and I have great memories with one of my best friends playing awesome MW2 battles. But I remember in 7th grade I'd rather play an FPS with online friends than hang out with IRL friends and in retrospect I took it too far.
@fti, would you argue that Twilight is a work of art? Even if it is, it doesn't offer much (or anything) substantially new, nor does it present something old in a fresh context. I argue that a lot of video games are like that, which is why people don't see them as containing artistic value (esp. popular mainstream games like Cod, GTA) even if by definition they might be art.
Still, there's something underrated to having a good time. I wouldn't call spending a night chilling with friends a waste of time, even if nothing "productive" came out of it. |

03.02.13 | if video games are a waste of time, novels and films are as well. argument is ridiculous |

03.02.13 | "if video games are a waste of time, novels and films are as well. argument is ridiculous"
are you dumb? did you not even read my argument? video games are not inherently wastes of time, but in the sense of "expanding your mind" or whatever 95% absolutely are. I hear Spec Ops (a PC game) really changes your view on video gaming and for my money then it absolutely is art. But there's no artistic value to be discerned from playing COD.
there's something to be said about simply having a good time but comparing it to books (where the majority of books from the past we still read are masterpieces that absolutely engage you and broaden your horizons) is dumb |
apert
03.02.13 | loads of books provide no artistic value as well, look at 50 shades of grey. The most popular books, films, games, and music are unlikley to be of much artistic value. As most of the most popular mediums of entertainment are designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Gaming may not have its Dickens or Jane Austen yet as its still very young, but who's to say what will happen in the future. There are already games like Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls coming out soon that are attempting to give video games more artistic integrity |
Calc
03.02.13 | "The most popular books, films, games, and music are unlikley to be of much artistic value."
how can you say that? you think Gone With the Wind or The Great Gatsby or Casablanca or a Tale of Two Cities were underground, "indie" gems at their time? This notion of popularity equaling low quality is stupid. Some popular shit from the 40's, 50's, 60's etc prevails today and some of it doesn't. Use logic. |
apert
03.02.13 | yeah should have made that more clear, what i meant that there is a correlation between entertainment being popular and shallow. I mean if you look at the top 10 books, films or whatever in your local shop alot of it won't be that good. Obviously there are exceptions as you said but they are definitely anomalies rather than the norm |
