Mezmerize
Haha, this shouldn't be too hard to explain. System of a Down releases a fairly good album filled with pure adrenaline-charged riffs and dark imagery towards the lyrics. Pretty sure I've seen the music video to 'Question!' about 100 times, but it's still fun to play/watch. We can't forget about BYOB, either, now can we? | | 9 | | Dropkick Murphys

Get Behind me Satan
Once again, an album loaded with some great singles, and really, they are some of White Stripe's best work. Fans of some great bluesy garage rock should give this a whirl, but I'm sure a lot of you have. | | 7 |  | Gorillaz
Demon Days
Refreshing, smooth, and graceful, this is a monumental Gorillaz album and also my favorite. Album had some great singles that I still love to jam with today. | | 6 |  | The Mars Volta
Frances the Mute
The single named 'The Widow' caught me off guard, and in a good way. I wasn't expecting much to be quite honest, because after making [i]De-Loused in the Comatorium[/i], I didn't think they would be able to sustain what that album was; pure bliss and art. Turns out, though, I was completely wrong and blown away by how [i]Frances the Mute[/i] was. This album, without further question, was (and still is) captivating and powerful. The Latin salsa influences are apparent and very, very delightful to hear, and with the brilliant storytelling this album has, altogether make this one of my favorite Mars Volta records. | | 5 |  | System of a Down
Hypnotize
Honestly, I think I liked this more than Mezmerize...and in fact, I did well over. Like, Mezmerize had some great riffs and all, but Hypnotize seemed to have it all with the band; aural assaults of blasphemous guitar riffs, emotion, and the common 1v1 styled vocal setups between Serj and Daron. Songs like 'Hypnotize', 'Kill Rock N Roll', and even the 5 minute epic 'Holy Mountains' give a great feel to why this album is my favorite (comparing this to Mezmerize). 'She's Like Heroin', though, just simply sucks, but that doesn't acquaint to the fact this album rules. | | 4 |  | HIM
Dark Light
I've always been a huge fan of HIM, and when this album was announced (alongside hearing some of their snazzy singles), I was stoked past belief. When I first heard the album, though, I was absolutely astonished. HIM returns here with Valo's deep seductive voice along with some beautiful guitar melodies as well. Guero

Hefty Fine
Although these guys aren?t the most proficient songwriters or musicians, they have a knack for melody and that is established well within Hefty Fine. While the songs themselves don?t cover much ground, per say, they are incredibly catchy and extremely fun to listen to; you can get the idea from the acronym of 'F.U.C.K', along with the piano rocker 'I'm the Least You Could Do', or even the rap-rock fused track (but although lyrically terrible lol) 'Balls Out.' Yeah, Hefty Fine might have been panned to no belief (it got like an average of 25% on some random music site lol) but it sold surprisingly well and count me in as being one of them. Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV: Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness
AOTY for me, no contest needed. As a whole, this album was unbelievably great and captivating in its own right. This album, right here, is what Coheed should ALWAYS be sounding like. I don't find myself enjoying their new material as much as I should, but I'm glad to see they had a strong past. Pick this album up, because it's almost guaranteed to not disappoint. | |
