Yazz_Flute
03.09.13 | The only one of these I've heard is 4, and it's quote good. Some of my favorite 2013 releases that aren't very exposed are:
Sannhet - Known Flood (Predominantly instrumental black/post-metal)
Jose James - No Beginning No End (Contemporary Jazz/Soul/Funk)
Huldra - Monuments, Monoliths (Post-Metal)
Romero - Take the Potion (Sludge/Stoner Metal)
Grayceon - Pearl and the End of Days (Progressive-Metal/Experimental) |
Graveyard
03.09.13 | heard most of these

kingsoby1
03.09.13 | rob mazurek is tight. i wouldn't say it's free jazz, seems completely thru composed to me. really interesting |
Rev
03.09.13 | Great list man!

MisterTornado
03.09.13 | "Sweet hamburgers dude, not like Mcdonald's this is top quality 1000% power transcendental flavour boost"
lol
"wish you listened to more rock"
sometimes i do too. check out 12, 23, 24, 29 though.
"dude, that inc record is straight baby thighs/ mad average"
lovin' that album, one of the favorites on the year.
"rob mazurek is tight. i wouldn't say it's free jazz, seems completely thru composed to me. really interesting"
i'd agree its a loose term. i think it's "free jazz" in the sense that fire! orchestra is "free jazz"; there's a clear foundation at the helm but the instruments are allowed enough flexibility and improvisation that it gains an aimless and chaotic feel to it similar to that of an all-out free jazz album. |
Calc
03.09.13 | best list maker on the site by far. |
Cygnatti
03.09.13 | knew this was gonna be a mr. tornado list |

North0House2
03.09.13 | I've always tried to get into Doldrums. Sometimes I love his work, but man sometimes it grates on me.
Great list anyway. Fire! Orchestra's album is absolutely awesome. |
MisterTornado
03.09.13 | Get it Cygnatti! So good.
"I've always tried to get into Doldrums. Sometimes I love his work, but man sometimes it grates on me."
Agreed. I love a couple songs on that Lesser Evil and applaud the production, but sometimes his vocals can grate. |
deathofasalesman
03.09.13 | 5 is fuckin' righteous. Dude, why can't honky-tonk artists learn from Willie the way this dude does? |
kingsoby1
03.09.13 | man i dont know. that inc record has like no redeeming factors. vocals are amateurish at best. music is a knockoff of prince |
MisterTornado
03.09.13 | Agreed death. Been a long time since I've heard a new Country album this good. |
MisterTornado
03.09.13 | "man i dont know. that inc record has like no redeeming factors. vocals are amateurish at best. music is a knockoff of prince"
I see where your coming from, but I love the smooth, aquatic atmosphere. Alot of subtitles too, reminds me of the production on a d'angelo record. I hear the prince vibe, but I think they take the sound to a different level. Kinda the way Dam-Funk gave Prince's electro-funk instrumentals his own unique spin. |
YankeeDudel
03.09.13 | Good stuff Tornado
Shit I dig off this
Fire Orchestra (aoty obv)
Cornelius
Daniel Romano
Jar Moff
Dam Funk
Future Faces
Gimu
Maston
The Growlers
U-Ziq
Tomasz Stanko
Rob Mazurek Octet
Pete Swanson
Mister Lie
Prurient
Emptyset
Merzbow, Gustafsson, and Pandi
Im not a fan of most of the electronic / ambient / minimal techno / drone ish. It is just boring and nothing special to me. I feel you can get similar stuff all the time on bandcamp and what not. But as always a couple gems so cheers! |
YankeeDudel
03.09.13 | btw you are the sputnik vaporwave authority dont be shy about flauntin it to get the ladiez |
MisterTornado
03.09.13 | Glad your diggin' alot of this Yankee.
"btw you are the sputnik vaporwave authority dont be shy about flauntin it to get the ladiez"
Haha, notice how I put "Synth Funk" where vaporwave should be. I've gotten the impression this glorious micro-genre isn't going to sell well on Sputnik, so you've gotta cover it up a bit. |
PuddlesPuddles
03.09.13 | So much disposable electronic stuff but I'm definitely checking out The Machine/Sungrazer then |
YankeeDudel
03.09.13 | Yea I noticed that tornado ha.
Vaprowave stuff is actually kinda cool to me. It really does just remind you of 80s VHS tapes, Tim and Eric infomercials, and sega genesis. |

:o this beat kinda sounds like Fanu or Rom and Roland. Diggin' it
"The only release for me that's gotten very little exposure is California X. Love that Dinosaur Jr. feel."
Haven't heard that yet, was afraid it would sound like typical indie doldrums. Might check it out |
Jash
03.10.13 | Nice to see 13 on here, amazing produce and all the tracks on there are wicked. 39 is awesome as well, he's got a good career ahead of him for sure. If you haven't heard the False Astronomy VIP he did look it up now |
