Dark Tranquillity Ranked |
1 | | Dark Tranquillity Character
My first album by them and still their pinnacle for me. It's their heaviest and most coherent album to date. Every track slays hard and Stanne's vocals are at their peak on this one. Clean singing would be inappropriate on this vicious beast of a record. |
2 | | Dark Tranquillity Fiction
The young brother of Damage Done and Character is the most diverse of the three and the clean vocals come back again on a few tracks. The tempo slows down a bit, but the trademark sound ist still there. Focus Shift and Icipher (that riff!) are fabulous and my favorite tunes, but the other songs don't come short. |
3 | | Dark Tranquillity The Gallery
THE classic DT-Album. Things get very melodic here. Punish My Heaven and Dividing Line are my favorites.
Lethe is great, too. |
4 | | Dark Tranquillity Damage Done
The start of an incredible row of superb albums. Here things sound much more refined than on Haven and the melodies stick in your head forever.
My favorite is Cathode Ray Sunshine along Hours Passed... and The Enemy. |
5 | | Dark Tranquillity Projector
DT go soft and create an incredible mix of ballads and crushing songs.
Therein, Freecard and Day To End are the standout tracks for me. Sometimes Stanne sounds a bit too whiney for my taste. |
6 | | Dark Tranquillity The Mind's I
Albeit inferior to The Gallery, this is arguably their most generic sounding Melodic Death record. Well executed with a few killer songs, but also a tad too samey at times. |
7 | | Dark Tranquillity Haven
The transitional album between Projector and Damage Done. Nothing besides The Wonders At Your feet is outstanding. Just DT doing their routine thing. |
8 | | Dark Tranquillity Construct
Where are the hits? Besides Endtime Hearts there is nothing exceptional on this record to be found. It sounds like a mix of the more boring tracks on Damage Done with the vocals of Projector. At least the cleans have improved. |
9 | | Dark Tranquillity Skydancer
The beginning, lacks good production and a clear direction.
Only for fans enjoyable. |
10 | | Dark Tranquillity We Are The Void
This is just a cheap copy of Fiction, a lot of tracks sound like b-sides. It's still good, but the band played it a bit too safe here. |
