08.03.13 | my friend yells at me in different pitches and tones when shes on her period does that count |

08.03.13 | Right fucking now
Seriously I was too young to be involved in the music of the 90s, and by the time I was old enough to start following the music of my childhood I was catching up on the 70s-90s. Since the beginning of last year I've actually followed developments in music and new releases and whatnot and I have to say, I picked a pretty stellar time to get hardcore into music. |

08.03.13 | I was born in the 90's, but the late 60s/early 70s is the most interesting and inspiring musical period to me. |

08.03.13 | the 90's alternative metal scene is probably my favorite era: Faith No More, RATM, Tool, Primus, Deftones.
and then the ensuing resurgence of post-hardcore: At The Drive-In, Quicksand, Glassjaw, Coheed & Cambria, Thursday, Refused. |

08.03.13 | Agreed |
Artuma
08.03.13 | no ok computer here agreed |

08.03.13 | The 90s were a nice period. The was also the rise of atmospheric metal with bands such as Anathema, The Gathering, Amorphis, Therion, Paradise Lost, etc.
Also, list needs NOLA. |
Cygnatti
08.03.13 | I wouldn't call most of these dissonant but okay. |

08.03.13 | 70s yeah |
Trebor.
08.03.13 | 70s only had like 3 genres and I get bored of that shit, can't live without hip hop and emo and some metal and good punk and what not
It's like hey do you want to listen to hard rock or regular rock wow |
bens
08.03.13 | 70's for sure.
by the way, there were much better albums in the 90's then the ones listed (1,3 &8 would be the only ones here on my nostalgia 90's list) |
MrSirLordGentleman
08.03.13 | I'm a 90's kid, but 70's will always rule as good as any decade |
NapalmCrusader
08.03.13 | 90's had more variety. Big fan of 70's music but 90's owns harder. |

08.03.13 | if he means the emergence of new genres then i can sorta see his point - 70s had metal, punk and prog (altho you could say prog started in the 60s really), also disco and funk got big |

08.03.13 | Jazz Fusion was born in the 1960s but it became popular in the 1970s along with Progressive Rock. The Krautrock scene helped give birth to Electronic music and even Ambient music to a certain degree. Minimalism, Soul, Funk, Folk and Folk rock, New Wave and Synth Pop were all well established at certain points in the decade imo but what made the decade so great was that experimentation was heavily encouraged and forged or directly influenced the multiple genres of the 1980s.
A couple of years ago I would have probably said the 80s or 90s but I definitely prefer the 1970s. |
Cygnatti
08.03.13 | 70s also had kraut, new wave, post punk, and arguably electronic but 80s and 90s are probably better decades for electronic. |
climactic
08.03.13 | 90s or 00s |
menawati
08.03.13 | but if you want to argue when something was 'born' its highly debatable |
Artuma
08.03.13 | 2000 was a killer year agreed but 91 > everything
70s was the best decade overall though |
beefshoes
08.03.13 | That is true. That's why I said the 1960's opposed to 1962. As far as I know there was no Jazz Fusion or Prog Rock in the 1950s. |
menawati
08.03.13 | "no Jazz Fusion or Prog Rock in the 1950s." - there was apparently prog jazz tho haha |
Artuma
08.03.13 | umm 2000 had these gems:
godspeed - lift your skinny fists
electric wizard - dopethrone
radiohead - kid a
at the drive-in - relationship of command
modest mouse - the moon and antarctica
extol - undeceived
elliott smith - figure 8
porcupine tree - lightbulb sun
paysage d'hiver - s/t
immolation - close to a world below |
beefshoes
08.03.13 | Haha Progressive Jazz.
Modal Jazz was a progression from the bebop scene I guess. |
Artuma
08.03.13 | yeah, that year ruled anyway |
StallionMang
08.03.13 | 90's, definitely. Other than just having awesome music, it was also when a lot of genres really started to develop and branch out. |
zakalwe
08.03.13 | Although there were better periods for music being a teen in the nineties was the best. Anyone who disagrees just wasn't there man. |
Vespiion
08.03.13 | When I saw the list title I read it as "Best musical, period." |
treeqt.
08.03.13 | the current decade is always the best |
zakalwe
08.03.13 | Early 90s metal and grunge, Electronic music coming into the mainstream and blowing minds, decent MTV, music stores, festivals and gigs. Great days. |

08.03.13 | ^General society will always see past decades as better |

08.03.13 | Slovenian polka scene from the fifties and sixties. |

08.03.13 | late 90s onwards. people underrate modern music/overrate old music too much. there's so much more variety now |

08.03.13 | a lot of my favourites are from the 90s |
zakalwe
08.03.13 | True fish but there's no unifying cultural movement that says fuck this and comes up with a revolutionary masterpiece that inspires a generation. It died in the 90s. |
NarkalepticNinja
08.08.13 | 90s Is probably where I lie. Black Metal was probably at its peak then with albums like Bergtatt and In the Nightside Eclipse. Gothenburg metal hit the scene in the mid 90s (my gateway into really heavy music). Death metal was at an all time peak with albums such as symbolic, unquestionable presence, focus, and pierced from within. Post Hardcore was born, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas,Jay-Z (Reasonable doubt), Neutral Milk Hotel, Britpop exploded onto the scene, Grunge, Elliot Smith, The Future Sound of London, Ska also really took off in the early 90s |
