08.09.13 | I know of a manga which follows the same psychological stance of death note but does it better. it's called Liar Game and is basically a story of participants who are involved in a series of games where lying (or playing with your opponents' minds) is the key to win. there are about 150 chapters out, so it shouldn't take that long to read.
if you're not into reading manga, you could check out Code Geass. from the few animes I've seen, it probably comes closest. |

08.09.13 | L dying was brilliant. Flipped the whole series on its head. |

08.09.13 | ^agree but not much good after. Didn't really enjoy Near or Melo, I felt as though the way Light was caught was cheap, not that I had a problem with Light dying. I just wished it would have ended differently. It would of been badass if light still had like a final trump card or failsafe and everyone in the room died |

08.09.13 | After L dying, it did go downhill, but there was still some brilliant work after that. The 2nd to last episode was one of the best. The ending was unfortunate. Not bad, just could have been better |

08.09.13 | Mushi Shi is awesome if you have any interest in supernatural fantasy. Its on Netflix. |

08.09.13 | Agreed episode 25 was probably my favorite but after that things really started to drag. And like people have said code Gayass is quite like Death Noto |
Trebor.
08.09.13 | I like the part where he takes a potato chip |
Trebor.
08.09.13 | AND EATS IT |

08.09.13 | I liked the part where Light rapes Misa |

08.09.13 | I didn't really like the second half of Death Note, but I liked the ending though. I knew one day he
would get cocky and get killed in the end.
Code Geass is similar but the main idea is a lot different since it's about overthrowing an empire.
Maybe Psycho Pass, it's about a society where everyone is judged by a system called Sibyl and it
determines what a person does with their life and these cops have to go and capture people who's
"Crime Coefficient" gets to a certain level(they don't even have to commit a crime for it to go up).
The reason it's similar to Death Note in a way is because the main character tries to hunt
down a criminal throughout the series(best part is the antagonist isn't completely evil and is just
following his own form of justice in his own maniacal way). I personally like Psycho Pass a lot more
than Death Note for the Justice vs Crime thing. The soundtrack is also has some great tracks, the
dialogue is good too.
Psychological/thriller series you may like: Mirai Nikki, Monster, Higurashi, Shiki, Ergo Proxy,
Another, Phantom: A Requiem for the Phantom, Shinsekai Yori, Steins;Gate, and Zetsuen no
Tempest. |

08.09.13 | I like the ending, because technically he did win. Mikami was just being stupid with pulling out the Death Note at the last moment.
But agreed, first half of the story was superb, after that it the quality dropped somewhat. |
sora236
08.09.13 | Mikami had the fake Death Note that Near replaced the real Death Note with. Light said, "It's my win"
along with that maniacal laugh and that revealed that he was the real Kira. |
Cygnatti
08.09.13 | The way they figured out that it had to have been light was pretty brilliant though. |
sideburndude
08.09.13 | yea, even though the last half was pretty mediocre, those two final episodes ruled |

That's what I meant: Mikami pulled out the death note to kill Mello and whatsername in that fire, and as a result Light's plan falled apart. Even though it wasn't Light's fault in itself. |
sora236
08.09.13 | Oh, I remember that now. Though Mikami didn't know that Light always carried a piece of a Death Note page in his watch and was scared of Takada ruining the plan. I remember Near saying if Mello hadn't done the kidnapping which triggered everything, Light would of have won. |

08.09.13 | Which I thought was actually a really nice ending.
And the last couple of chapters brought back the more psychological mind games back, which I liked. The middle part with the mafia was really stupid. That silly action stuff is not what I read Death Note for. |
InFiction
08.10.13 | If you liked Death Note, I strongly recommend Code Geass. Similar sort of "puppet master/dual lifestyle" mechanic that Light uses. |
sideburndude
08.10.13 | ya but then they would have gotten shit for not following the manga |

08.10.13 | Death Note was brilliant, all of it. |

08.10.13 | The only anime that lives up to Death Note in terms of psychology, philosophy, police cases and realism is Monster. It might even surpass it if you ask me. It is a philosophical view on good and evil. The characters are brillant, and you will get hooked right from the start.
Otherwise, if you liked the character of Light Yagami, I strongly suggest you One Outs, but only if you already know a little bit (and enjoy, to some extent) baseball. |

Was just reading Liar Game after I couldn't sleep last night actually. My sister has been forcing me to read it for a while, and I thought fuck it why not. It's pretty good. |

08.10.13 | Monster's splendid (have all the issues) but Urasawa could have possibly slimmed it down a bit. 21th Century Boys is excellent as well. |

08.10.13 | Probably one of the most intense shows I've ever seen, though I agree about the drop in quality after L's death. Only other anime I've seen is naruto and a bit of bleach. Going to check out Monster though, have had that one rec'd to me a few times now. |
clercqie
08.10.13 | Monster doesn't work as well as anime as it does as manga, just saying. |

08.10.13 | Code Geass indeed. |
