09.08.13 | I also know some of these albums blow (I can't stand Blessthefall & Enter Shikari for example). These are just a couple bands that ride the line between metalcore and post-hardcore, and I'm not sure what to classify them as. |
treeqt.
09.08.13 | none of those are post-hardcore so there you go |
JustinKing
09.08.13 | Post-hardcore is hardcore punk at its basis, but has new influences present, ranging from alternative rock to black metal. Metalcore is explicitly an amalgam of metal and hardcore, but since its creation, has become bastardized to be synonymous with bands that have no idea how to implement any musical idea not involving a simple staccato open-string chug syncopated with the bass drum as the vocalist screams cheesy one-liners.
Yeah, a lot of bands do straddle the line, but it becomes more discernible the more you look into it. |

09.08.13 | Metalcore is either really dissonant, complex and chaotic hardcore with a touch of metal or it is really shitty metal that rips the Gothenburg sound. Post-hardcore is either an offshoot of hardcore that introduces outside elements making it distinct from regular hardcore and often features complex musicianship or it is really shitty and slightly more aggressive sounding pop punk. Just my opinions |
Cygnatti
09.08.13 | Black metal wut |
JustinKing
09.08.13 | Also, the dissonant and chaotic bands are the best variety of metalcore. |
JustinKing
09.08.13 | @Cyg The Phantom Carriage came to mind when I wrote that comment. They are kinda a black metal/post-hardcore mix. If nothing else, the influence is there. |
Cygnatti
09.08.13 | That must be something particular for that band because lol at black metal being in 99.999999% of post hardcore. |
JustinKing
09.08.13 | That's why I said the influences vary. They're the only one I can think of with that influence, but I was just trying to convey extremes of differing sounds. |

09.08.13 | Nah it definitely is a thing. Too bad I can't remember any more band names because I didn't listen to any of that stuff in forever. |
tlhk
09.08.13 | at the drive in is post-hardcore
converge is metalcore
listen to both of those bands and it should give you a basic understanding of the difference between the two genres |
Cygnatti
09.08.13 | Metal of any kind and post hardcore don't go well with each other. Let alone black metal damn. But yeah at the drive in is post hardcore, best example. Converge may not be the best example of modern metalcore. :/ |
JustinKing
09.08.13 | Didn't say it was a great thing, just that it did happen. I wouldn't really use Converge as the best example just because of their really prominent hardcore side. I would say Misery Signals might be a bit of a more set-in-stone example of metalcore. |

09.08.13 | Hexis fuses post-hardcore and black metal and its pretty awesome. |
IbenizGEO1
09.08.13 | Lots of modern Metalcore is associated with Breakdowns right? when did that start? Has it always been part of the genre ? |
sonictheplumber
09.15.13 | you are retard |
IbenizGEO1

Millstone
09.15.13 | phrdcre |
Chortles
09.15.13 | both are pretty shit genres aside from a few gems anyway |
IbenizGEO1
09.15.13 | FUGAZI |
JeremyJahns
09.15.13 | Agreed. I do love so emery and have a couple guilty pleasures in both (mainly demon hunter for introducing me to music without only clean vocals). Neither is a fav genre of mine; I just happen to own a lot of em |
