| Best Chill Out Stuff
Every now and then, you're stoned out of your mind and you want something to relax to. Thus, this list exists. | 1 | | Nine Inch Nails Still
Outside of a few classic album closers, Nine Inch Nails and 'chill out' are usually never used in the same sentence. However, when the And All That Could Have Been DVD was released, Still accompanied it, and was worth the purchase all by itself. Led slowly by piano, barely any production, acoustic guitars, bare electronics, and an extremely mellow feel, it's worthwhile for any music listener. | 2 | | Radiohead Kid A
Easily Radiohead's softest album, it's moody, electronic, and cold. It's perfect for that time where you just want to chill out. Outside of a few songs, it's melodic, mellow, and moving. The echoing atmosphere of Optimistic, Idioteque, and Everything In It's Right Place will drift you off to another planet. And leave you there to rot. | 3 | | Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon
The immediate classic, it's a worthwhile experiment. Sound effects buzz around mellow guitar chords and Waters often barely rising above a mellow roar. The album's flow creates an elaborate dream sequence, and the vividness of the album is perfect enough just to fall asleep to, but somehow be enthralled in the music all at the same time. | 4 | | Porcupine Tree Voyage 34: The Complete Trip
Porcupine Tree's experimental EP, a 4-track voyage of Psychedelic rock meant to convey the effects of an acid trip, does all this and more. It's extremely relaxing, but wholly colorful, inventive, and soothing all at the same time. Mix that with Steven Wilson's dried down lulling voice, it's a classic 'chill out' album. | 5 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
An oddly disturbing lyrically and instrumentally acoustic experiment with all the lure of any R.E.M. album is something that should never be passed up. The lulling, dark tones of Stipe's voice and the jangle pop acoustic guitar noises create an enthralling, extremely bland landscape, perfect for 'zoning' out. | |

only the dreamyness of Dark Side of the Moon is destroyed by the fucking chimes in "Time", they wake me up every time... ^^
and Sigur Rós and Godspeed You! Black Emperor should be included and some trip-hop stuff. |
