Best Of Post Encore Eminem
So it's no secret that he fell off badly after The Eminem Show. Encore was a
stinking turd (except maybe Mosh and LTS). All his albums since getting
clean and returning to the game have not impressed the critics either.
These are what I consider to be the few gems from those sub par albums: |
1 | | Eminem Relapse
Deja Vu - Many will disagree with me on this, but this is a great song, with a great
beat and story telling lyricism. It details his unflattering and depressing life addicted to
prescription drugs and how he ended up almost dying, a couple of minutes from death
when the paramedics got to him. |
2 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP 2
Legacy - A real throwback to his early life. The feel of this is quite reminiscent of his
earliest work with a great use of piano. Great story telling and production, the chorus
is quite poppy but I can deal with it. |
3 | | Eminem Relapse
Beautiful - Another gem amongst the sea of awfulness that is Relapse. He finally drops
the accent for this one. Introspective lyrics asking himself if he is good enough to ever
return to rap. This was written when at his lowest and had sever writers block and was
still addicted to drugs. |
4 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP 2
Brainless - Probably the most underrated track from the new album. The verses are
angry and his flow is great as he raps about when he used to get bullied growing up.
Once again the chorus is quite silly but catchy as hell |
5 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP 2
Bad Guy - The sequel to Stan, this song is great lyrically with a lot of throwbacks to
the original. The flow is kind of choppy at the beginning but gets better and better until
exploding in the last section. |
6 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP 2
Rhyme or Reason - People seem to either love or hate this one. Great lyrics, great
flow, ingenious use of sampling. The pre chorus is pretty weak but the chorus works
well. |
7 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP 2
Evil Twin - Feels almost like a bad meets evil track except it's Marshall Mathers vs
Slim Shadey. Love the concept and the lyricism in this one. |
8 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP 2
Rap God - Pure lyrical ability is so impressive it outweighs the awful beat and lame
chorus. |
9 | | Eminem Relapse
Underground - Fantastic closer for Relapse. It's the only song on the album that really
goes hard over a great Dre beat. Lyrics are pretty ridiculous and the chorus can grate
but the flow and feel is perfect. |
10 | | Eminem Recovery
You're Never Over - Awful chorus, awful production, but the best song on Recovery
purely because of the lyrics. Instead of a song mourning the death of his best mate
Proof he instead pays him tribute with a powerful and uplifting song. |
11 | | Eminem Recovery
Talking To Myself - A very honest song about his position in rap now, even admits that
his last two CD's were trash and that he is "no longer the man" but is still recovering.
Shame that most of the album is mediocre retreads of this theme. |
12 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP 2
Headlights - Eminem finally apologises to his mum. Great lyrically but the production
and chorus are cheesy as hell. |
13 | | Eminem Recovery
No Love - Ignore the lame verse from Lil Wayne, this has Ems best verse on the
whole album and I actually think the poppy chorus and production work well on this
particular song. |
14 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP 2
Survival - Lame female chorus and the feel of the song is pretty much identical to
Cinderella Man and Won't Back Down from Recovery. However, this is far better
lyrically and has grown on me a lot. |
15 | | Eminem Recovery
Going Through Changes - Like Deja Vu it details his life during his lowest point fat,
addicted to drugs, best friend dead, and lost his will to write. Deja Vu does this a lot
better, but this is also a great and very honest song |
