11.20.13 | "Does anyone on Sputnik have a job or career in the audio/music rindustry? Or doing music-promotion?"
yes and yes
1's production helps the album's overall feel and themes; empty words like how you describe don't give it enough credit. the overall melancholic, desperate, frail, but overwhelming emotion of the character and atmosphere really radiates through the music. |
PitchforkArms
11.20.13 | sorry man, i was just jotting down stuff but you are absolutely right. |
fr33convict
11.20.13 | I don't have a job in the industry, but that's the plan after college. I've done some very small engineering / producing work before and want to try to take that full time further down the road. I'm also still 17 so I'm realistically still a while away from all that and have a lot more to learn haha. |
PitchforkArms
11.20.13 | where are you planning on going to college? |
Decay
11.20.13 | I use Sibelius |
fr33convict
11.20.13 | "where are you planning on going to college?"
University of North Texas. I'm still undecided on whether I want to major in Jazz Studies or focus more on academics and try to get into the Honors program. I'll probably be applying for both just in case. |
Scoot
11.20.13 | nope i want to make a living |
AtomicShane
11.20.13 | lol jazz studies |
fr33convict
11.20.13 | Something funny about that, Atomic? |
AtomicShane
11.20.13 | yeah the fact that they offer a major in jazz studies is fuckin funny |
fr33convict
11.20.13 | It's for musicians. Most music colleges have one. It's not like you just sit there and study some old jazz records lol. |
AtomicShane
11.21.13 | ya I know, but that has to be one of the hardest majors to find a job out of college for.
(im also a liberal arts major so I know how it goes, but yeah) |
MikeC26
11.21.13 | i play out a lot, mostly on weekends and generally covers but it pays pretty well sometimes. I also teach guitar on the side
which is kinda cool but frusterating as shit. I'm a student now so whether or not i'll keep going with it is up in the air,
either way i'll always be doing something with music. |
PunchforPunch
11.21.13 | been playing with ableton for like a month now. i wanna be like zedd and calvin harris! |
Apollo
11.21.13 | Cool, I wish I did. I live in Windsor btw, planning on hitting up some record stores in Detroit next week. |
PitchforkArms
11.21.13 | Nice man! Which? I have no luck around here with stores. The selection is always pretty annoyingly selective. Like yeah I like some alt/indie , but if that's the only thin in the store, same with death metal (but I like those more because the workers are usually cooler and not hipdouches |
Apollo
11.21.13 | TBH I was just gonna cruise around and see what I find. I'm taking my day off to travel. I'm new to Windsor so exploring Detroit is quickly turning into a hobby. For a bankrupt city is sure has a lot to offer. And btw, what's the name of your band? I recently saw a show at FM Lounge and saw some good post-metal/rock bands. Windsor/Detroit seems to have a thriving music scene. |
SeaAnemone
11.21.13 | I used to work in a radio station. We had some very legit studios and equipment because my boss was an audio engineer guy who, on the side, designed a bunch of professional studios and specific parts, etc.
I knew how to fuck around in the studio and record and edit stuff for features and radio shows and interviews but it's not something I'm very interested in, in case you can't tell, so I never really pursued learning much more about it than my job required.
edit: used ProTools Le btw |
lyzakthellama
11.21.13 | Going to school for audio engineering so that's the plan out of college. I have a few internships set up for next year |

11.21.13 | pro tools is real easy to handle if the effort to learn is there |
SeaAnemone
11.21.13 | yeah pro tools is very intuitive if you have any knowledge of technology whatsoever, I think.
I used to train DJs how to use it -only took like a 30min or hour session, for the basics- and it takes a real idiot to screw it up |
PitchforkArms
11.21.13 | Yeah I've picked up on protools really well. It really helps to just experiment with it.
Apollo, yeah the scene is alright if you can find the right groups, venues and promoters. Lots of venues but not all of them are really thriving. I'm not super aware of how it is in Windsor but I'd love to check it out. |
