| 10 Great Documentaries
Been watching tons of docs lately. Here are some of my favorites. | 1 | | Bohren & der Club of Gore Piano Nights
High on crack street - A noteworthy documentary about the horrible fate of crack addicts. The film depicts the everyday struggle of three addicts, who would do just about anything to get the next dose. | 2 | | Alcest Shelter
Aokigahara / Suicide Forest - In Japan, a forest called Aokigahara has an alarming reputation for being the local suicide hotspot. The documentary follows the footsteps of a geologist as he progresses through the forest, in search of those who have already given up on life or may soon succumb to the urge of killing themselves. | 3 | | Have A Nice Life The Unnatural World
The Iceman Tapes - Evil, ruthless, brutal, fearless, violent, mentally unstable, and cold-hearted - these are just some of the words that could describe the serial killer Richard "Iceman" Kuklinski. The documentary attempts to shed some light on the mind of the aforementioned paranoid psychopath with the help of acknowledged psychiatrist Michael Baden. | 4 | | Full of Hell Rudiments of Mutilation
Nuit et Brouillard (Night and Fog) - This film is on of the best depictions of the atrocities committed by the holocaust. The documentary takes us to a implacable and uncompromising journey through the history of the several concentration camps and in the fate of their prisoners. | 5 | | Against Me! Transgender Dysphoria Blues
Atomic Wounds (2006) - With all the propaganda and intimidation experienced during the Cold War, it is hard to imagine any other nuclear effects on humans, but the countless number of victims. Atomic wounds is like a personal journey that shows the close-up of Hiroshima and Nagasaki victims' suffering, documenting the frightening consequences of nuclear war. The film points out that victims and fatalities are not only historical, statistical data, but really people, just like us. | 6 | | Sorrow (UK) Dreamstone
Conspiracy Of Silence - This film actually has never been officially shown, as numerous political forces have tried to stop the spread of documentary. The film depicts how the power and wealth is used for personal benefit, and to conceal crime. Conspiracy Of Silence brings us right to the world about existence of which we all know, however, hope that it doesn't exist. | 7 | | Deaf Havana Old Souls
The Killing Of America - Although this film is already of an considerable age, especially for a documentary, it does not change the fact that today the United States is one of the most severely violent country amongst all developed countries, despite the fact that every year the number of crimes decreases. This film depicts an uncompromising vision of the American dark past - and perhaps allow us to see a small piece of puzzle, which is still quite disturbing to a large part of society. | 8 | | Phaeleh Tides
Bulgaria's Abandoned Children - This documentary offers as an unique insight into the daily life of terrible Bulgarian orphanages. These children have very little hope for their future without an education, without professional help, without any help. Since their days are spent mostly sitting room, swinging back and forth between the other living abandoned. | 9 | | Vali Skogslandskap
Hoop Dreams - A film following the lives of two inner-city Chicago boys who struggle to become college basketball players on the road to going professional. | 10 | | Ataraxie L Etre et La Nausee
Zeitgeist - This film explores three themes which seem totally unrelated: the Christian faith; the attacks of September 11, 2001; the American Federal Reserve System and Income tax. I have never seen a documentary in which images and music were put together in such a powerful and artistic way. The film depicts the fraudulent Zeitgeists that have been used through the centuries to subdue others into acquiescing. It shows that the one truth we are fed daily is a carefully crafted lie, which hold us spellbound. | |
