SatanicPeanuts
03.11.14 | needs mike patton |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | I need some good bands/artists with a female vocalist, severally lacking all I really have is PJ Harvey. Most I know are either 60s-70s soul or shitty pop |
ArsMoriendi
03.11.14 | @Bombastik: Try L7. Their album Hungry for Stink is a good starting point. |
ArsMoriendi
03.11.14 | Also 2 and 7 are amazing!
Needs Mike Patton [2]. |
emester
03.11.14 | Needs Mike Patton [3]. |
NordicMindset
03.11.14 | Needs Mike Patton [4]
and MJK |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | Well then, where to start? Got nothing else going on
|
ArsMoriendi
03.11.14 | @Bombastik: Mike Patton Wise, start with Faith No More's album The Real Thing.
Female vocalist wise, L7's album Hungry for Stink . |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | Got it, already listened to Hungry for Stink once through just now |
ArsMoriendi
03.11.14 | How was it? :P |
StallionMang
03.11.14 | Needs Mike Patton [5] |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | Alright, last two songs were great, might take a few listens to get use to the vocals on the first half. |
NordicMindset
03.11.14 | Angel Dust is greatt |
ArsMoriendi
03.11.14 | @Bombastik: Yeah, all 3 vocalists in L7 can be pretty abrasive. I'm really happy you like PJ Harvey though, she's probably my favorite female musician ever! |
NordicMindset
03.11.14 | Three L7 vocalists??? |
ArsMoriendi
03.11.14 | @Green Baron: I feel like The Real Thing is a safer album to start with. Although Angel Dust is one of my favorite albums of all time, upon first listen I didn't have a very good reaction. Actually it's funny, until I got into Mr. Bungle, I thought Faith No More was meh (after hearing Angel Dust and The Real Thing once each.) Then I got into Mr. Bungle, then I tried them again and I was like WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME? THESE GUYS ARE FANTASTIC! |

03.11.14 | [6]
Frank Carter. |
NordicMindset
03.11.14 | I loved Angel Dust on 1st listen after everyone hyped it. |
ArsMoriendi
03.11.14 | @Green Baron: Donita Sparks who plays rhythm guitar, Suzi Gardner who plays lead guitar, and Jennifer Finch who plays bass all sing. Finch is only on their first 4 albums though. (they have 6.) |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | Yeah she's great, haven't listened to her entire discography yet but slowly working through it. One of the few female rock vocalists that does seem out of place, makes me wish there was some more. :( |
NordicMindset
03.11.14 | I remember Pretend We're Dead from RB2 |
ArsMoriendi
03.11.14 | @Green Baron: "Pretend We're Dead" is Donita Sparks on vocals. It's probably one of their worst songs though lol.
Try This: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbMyELNEDLs
@Bombastik: Yeah I'm a huge fan. She has some really random feminine tracks I actually appreciate the hell out of and then hits you with a hard rocker. It's like perfect. |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | First time I had heard her was on "Come to Me" a duet with Lanegan, was kinda shocked when I got into her other stuff but it was definately a nice surprise.
|
NordicMindset
03.11.14 | Mark lanegan? |
Underflow
03.11.14 | Garm (Krystoffer Rygg), Tori Amos, Matt Berninger |

03.11.14 | Yes mark lanegan |

Bombastik
03.11.14 | Completely forgot about David Byrne (Talking Heads) when I made this. :( |
mandan
03.11.14 | 7 hell yeah man.
2's an interesting pick as well. |
mandan
03.11.14 | Also, if you're looking for female vox, I suggest you try Garbage. I haven't jammed their debut enough but Version 2.0 is a pretty cool album. |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | Thanks, I'll give them a try soon. |
KjSwantko
03.11.14 | Pretty OK list |
tempest--
03.11.14 | sweet man needs Freddie but you got Jeff and Layne so I'm happy |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | Yeah I forgot, missing a lot that could have been here but w.e 1 3 5 need more love though |
InbredJed
03.11.14 | wow this is an amazing list.
I don't expect to see Mark Lanagan or Van Morrison on hardly any lists on this site, let alone Gord Downie!!!!
what are you, Canadian or something!? |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | yea i'm canadian, there was some other people I had considered putting (neil young, getty lee, richard manuel) but figured I shouldn't overload it |
InbredJed
03.11.14 | yeah man, I am too... all these ppl are great.
I was thinking more of Tom Waits missing from this list. |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | him and nick cave, dallas green, etc. But still what I really really need is some good female singers, don't care what genre but would prefer something other than pop |
unaMUSEd
03.11.14 | matt bellamy |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | Been hesitant to give Muse, only heard bad things about their last few albums. |
VermTheImpaler
03.11.14 | Chester benington

mandan
03.11.14 | Lol Dave Mustaine |
VermTheImpaler
03.11.14 | Of course is a joke, but love mustaine's intensity, he is not technical but he has some intensity until endgame
Anyways, it needs freddie mercury, roy khan and jim morrison |
unaMUSEd
03.11.14 | Their last album wasn't that good, but Matt is still an amazing vocalist and had some of his best vocal moments on that album, even on songs that were bad overall. |
InbredJed
03.11.14 | man, look no further than Tori Amos
Feist is also great, as are Kate Bush and PJ Harvey. |
jtswope
03.11.14 | 1, 4, and 10 m/ |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | Thanks Inbred.
unaMUSEd where do you think I should start with MUSE? To give them a try. |
tempest--
03.11.14 | yo Jed have you heard Feist's Mastodon cover?? It's actually pretty cool haha |
unaMUSEd
03.11.14 | Bombastik definitely start with Absolution or Origin of Symmetry. I think Absolution has the most accurate representation
of their overall sound. |
Bombastik
03.11.14 | Okay |
InbredJed
03.11.14 | Yeah, its wayyy the hell better than Mastodon's Feist cover on the same ep |
InbredJed
03.11.14 | Carina Round is hard to find, but also really amazing |
brokendogleg
03.11.14 | Try the new St. Vincent album, along with Laura Stevenson, Joanna Newsom, Tuneyards, and My Brightest Diamond. |
