Top 15 Albums Of 2013

Yeah I know the time for lists has come and passed but I've been to busy to get around to post this but regardless lets get to the point at hand. 2013 was a great year for music and seems each year gets better and better so I'm expecting great things for the rest of 2014.so here are my favorites.
1Altar of Plagues
Teethed Glory and Injury

Say what you want about the whole atmospheric black metal scene/sound or whatever the fuck you wanna call it but Altar of Plagues I feel has always been a step above the others and Teethed Glory is definitely their finest moment. Dark, intense, atmospheric and almost ritualistic at times there is no better way for this band to finish their musical journey.
2Carcass
Surgical Steel

Probably one of (next to Sunbather and Colored Sands if you wanna go there) if the most hyped album of 2013 and why not? This everything that made Carcass a great band and for sure their return to form. From the killer riffs of "Thrashers Arbattoir" to the great leads of "Noncompliance To Astm F899-12 Standard" this is how to make a comeback album.
3Year of No Light
Tocsin

When making a instrumental album it can be a very daunting thing especially if your a band that's going for that atmospheric post-metal-ish type of sound but Year of No Light find a way to keep true to their sound but also progress forward. A little heavy than it's predecessor "Toscin" still has elements of what made "Ausserwalt" so great but with a little bit more bit and nastiness to it.
4Inter Arma
Sky Burial

This was an album and a band for that matter that surprised me a great deal at just how heavy, atmospheric and mostly psychedelic their sound could be. songs like "Sblood" or "The Destroyer" just send you to another place mentally like a time in ancient prehistory where the world around you was a undiscovered thing or like a different plane of existence comes to mind. The vocals are very much a spot light on this album ranging from yelling to black metal shrieks.
5Full of Hell
Rudiments of Mutilation

Probably FoH's most furious and cerebral album yet. Their brand of noisey blackened metallic hardcore grind sound has been taken a step forward and pays off brilliantly with the punishment the listener will receive from this album short 30 or so minutes of brutality.
6Gorguts
Colored Sands

Yes we've all heard how great this thing is and it's probably been force feed to many a little bit to much but I seriously enjoy this thing quite a bit. Can't say much that's already been said just an all round great album from yet another band returning to form.
7Exhumed
Necrocracy

I've never really been a huge fan of the whole gorey side of death metal especially bands like Cannibal Corpse but Exhumed have always been the one band out of them all I have enjoyed the most and "Necrocracy" is probably their best of their recent releases. Production sounds great a the songwriting has definitely took a step forward and of course Exhumed sounds as nasty as ever.
8Russian Circles
Memorial

I have never really been into this band but this album has made me want to return to their previous albums. Very airy and breathey but at the same time kind of heavy "Memorial" is probably Russian Circles most ambitious record yet.
9Cult of Luna
Vertikal

I wasn't very much into "Eternal Kingdom" mainly because I really couldn't vibe with the less varied sounds but with "Vertikal" CoL try and for the most part succeed in making a varied and ambitious record. Electronics play a bigger role on this record combining them with their sludgy atomspheric sound and it pays off pretty well to get the listener to connect with the theme connecting with the movie "Metropolis".
10This Routine Is Hell
Howl

This is what Ceremony wishes they could be.This album is an in your face energy induced hardcore punk-ish ride that will make you wanna punch everything in your way. 'nough said.
11Oathbreaker
Eros|Anteros

A very firey chaotic sounding record with alot of energy and memorable moments fusion elements of metallic hardcore and at some points sludge.Though it's musical emphasis is pretty evident it never leave the listener hanging keeps things interesting.
12Vattnet Viskar
Sky Swallower

Yes they're a USBM metal but if you keep an open mind you'll find them to be one of the more engaging acts to come out of this scene.Great vocals, great atmospherics and awesome musicianship.Check it out.
13Deafheaven
Sunbather

Yup I do very much enjoy this record.Say what you will of this album but I think it's a very well written and great sounding record combing elements of a black metal, screamo, post-rock, and metal to create a very airy and uplifting experience.
14Ulcerate
Vermis

Though it's definitely without a doubt not the atmospheric injected death metal experience that was "The Destroyers of All" Ulcerate does do a great job at going back to their roots while also keeping a small amount of atmospherics to keep things engaging and interesting.
15Windhand
Soma

Very doomy and heavy sounding band but also being kind of melodic and i guess for lack of a better word occult sounding with it's great sounding female vocals. "Soma" is a very demanding album and will test your attention span but if you stick with it and you do enjoy some doom it wll be well worth your listen.
