Stuff I've Heard Recently

What the title says.
1Elton John
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Gave this a relisten after not having heard it for years, still as classic as I
remember it.
2System of a Down
Steal This Album!

May turn out to be one of my favorite System albums! Kinda underrated in their
discog.
3A Perfect Circle
Thirteenth Step

I had loved a few of the tracks here and there when I was younger, but never
listened to the album in full. What have I been missing, this is great stuff!
4Haim
Days Are Gone

My mom saw these girls on SNL, loved it so much, she bought the album, and now
I may like it more than she does.
5Metallica
Metallica

Man, was this somewhat of a letdown. I can now see where the fans are coming
from with the "selling out" comments. This definitely has some classic tracks, but
also a lot of filler and I miss the complexity that ...And Justice brought to the table.
6Avenged Sevenfold
Waking the Fallen

Having only heard City of Evil and the self-titled, I was a little cautious about how
much I would like this album. However, this one definitely blows those two away
(yes, even the best tracks on CoE). Can definitely see how this was influential on
metalcore, listening to "Unholy Confessions"' main riff, I can now name at least 5
bands who've ripped it off.
7Mekong Delta
In a Mirror Darkly

Wasn't expecting this to be so awesome! Epic intro and instrumental (!) tracks,
great instrumentation and vox, good stuff. The only thing that needs slight
improvement is the production, the instrument seperation on the drums is a little
too obvious.
8John Frusciante
Enclosure

Having never heard Froosh's previous material, I can only say that I really enjoyed
this. He bounces from electronic style to style within the space of a single song.
This is an album that demands more listens to be fully digested.
9Rush
A Farewell to Kings

Finally got around to hearing this, it's Rush, what do you expect?
10Crosses
Crosses

Chino goes electronic, and the results are groovy. Hating the mastering on the CD
release though, compressed to hell and back.
11Tune-yards
W H O K I L L

Heard this a few times when it came out, shelved it, and am just now getting back
to it because of her new album. This is loads better than I initially gave it credit for.
Great production, too. Excited to hear Nikki Nack.
12Damon Albarn
Everyday Robots

Now for stuff that I have acquired but actually haven't heard yet. From what I've
heard of this, it seems right up my alley in terms of alternative/electronica, and I
love Gorillaz so...
13Temples
Sun Structures

Picked this up simply because of the album cover, it's gotten good praise from a
number of critics, I figure why not?
14Swans
The Seer

All of my sput bros and real life music friends praise this to high heaven, so I guess
it's time for me to jump aboard the Gira bandwagon. I love long songs in general,
so I'm thinking I'll really enjoy this.
15Ne Obliviscaris
Portal of I

Reviewers constantly mention Dream Theater and Opeth among these guys'
influences/soundalikes, and album cover is boss, so I'll give it a spin.
16Smashing Pumpkins
Siamese Dream

I'm wanting to go through the Pumpkins discog, so I'm starting here.
17Porcupine Tree
Stupid Dream

For a band I consider one of my favorites, I haven't really explored their works
pre-In Absentia. Looking to rectify that with this.
18Fuel
Puppet Strings

This is either going to turn out to be a solid collection of alt-rock songs, or an album
by a group way past their prime. One of my favorite engineers Ben Grosse worked
on this album, so it has potential (for me, at least).
19 Fair to Midland
Arrows & Anchors

Sputnik loves this, I love prog, saw it at the library, I'll give it a try!
20Jeff Buckley
Grace

Another one of my favorite engineers Andy Wallace worked on this (and has
apparently gotten huge praise for it), so I'll at least like the sound of this record.
21Lacuna Coil
Comalies

Having not particularly cared for anything post-Karmacode by this band, a friend
recommended I seek out this album.
22Rage Against the Machine
Evil Empire

According to recent Sputnik opinion, this is on par with the self-titled. We shall soon
see...
23The Menzingers
Rented World

I'm not usually a pop-punk fan, but this came in at the radio station and thought I'd
give it a spin.
24Soundtrack
Neon Genesis Evangelion

Actually have heard this, just as great as the anime it's written for.
25 Henry Jackman
Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Heard this was terrible. I could kinda tell listening to it in the movie theater. Will be
a masochistic listen, for sure.
