EasyModeDX
06.05.14 | yeah, and that's why it's heavier, Aeolian it chugs so much it's a friggin train!! How's that for heavy? But srsly, The Beyond loses too much impact in it's duration, not to mention Aeolian has guest vocals also i like trains so im biased |
Pennywise_M
06.05.14 | "yeah i do back vildhjarta, shit is so heavy and way more musically interesting that the breakdowny stuff on this list."

Relinquished
06.05.14 | i'll call my gay black friends to run a train on you if like em so much
butt seriously, beyond's duration doesn't hurt if you're used to sludge, there's no wasted segments, powerful emotive vocals that don't relent on the lyrics, it dooms so fucking hard. no jokey tracks like dead serious and necrobabes.com, or weak melodramatic lyrics found on killing the flies, queen, and inertia |
wacknizzle
06.06.14 | Never really cared to acknowledge the lyrics on Aeolian, it's all about the vox themselves and the crushing instrumentation. Especially with shit like "I'll fuck your dog" lol c'mon
Never heard The Beyond until now, very impressed with how hard it sludges, I'm digging it alot. |

06.06.14 | You just reminded me of Eyehategod's Dopesick , it would fit the list. But I mean, Aeolian is the obvious comparison to The Beyond so it kinda deserved to be mentioned. If you wanna hear my honest opinion on aelolian, it's kinda similar, it chugs too much, so does Fluxion, it's what prevents me from listening to those two as frequently as I would otherwise. Just keep in mind that dark ambient sections don't equal heavyness concerning The Beyond. I'm used to dark, slow sludge, and The Beyond doesn't fit that framework half of the time, it has really powerful sections but their trademark ambient, though it's probably their darkest kinda makes me think it's a part-time heavy record. Both rule really hard tho. |
Relinquished
06.06.14 | but there's no dark ambient present
there's some present as a very quiet blanket behind the music itself but it's not as prevalent as you think, listen again |

06.06.14 | Relinquished not convinced bro, the post sections are not feeding the heavyness directly, it's more like there are two separate entities making their sound.
Discussions like this always make me wanna check out the records, now I feel the urge to listen to TB again. |
Relinquished
06.06.14 | you should dude, I've been listening to that record for 11 years, I know its ins-and-outs. the guitars never stop for the most part, so as far as it being ambient anything.. it's not. |
EasyModeDX
06.06.14 | I'm no stranger to TB but as you might understand it's not the kind of record I can jam in whenever,
it's really mood specific, not to mention I wouldn't like to be interrupted when listening to it, it's
best enjoyed in it's whole really. And okay, I should've been more correct when talking about it, it's
not ambient, but it's the post rock side of Cult of Luna. You get the idea. |
Relinquished
06.06.14 | I mean yea I understood what you meant completely, but many heavy bands have reprieves in their song passages - Corrupted, Loss, Disembowelment, Electric Wizard, etc. - and it all adds to the dynamics as payoffs. The post-rock side you say on that record in this instance is usually in the bridges of the songs, and like I said they add towards the heavy buildups after and imo don't detract from the power as they're done very well. If it's not a casual listen as it is for me, then that's totally different. |
ShadowRemains
06.06.14 | qweshuggah |
EasyModeDX
06.06.14 | Yeah, to me it's the complete opposite of usual, it's the kind of album after you listen to it, leaves that aftertaste in you that you just experienced something huge, it's the same kind of vibe I get from listening to The Angelic Process. But try as hard as I might, I don't usually see the post there as a build up in the same way I can see that being the case with Amia Venera for example, which incorporates it as the follow up to that br00tal climax in a post rock kind of way. I see it as an element that brings nuance and complexity in terms of mood. However we are on the same page when talking about reprieves, it gives more weight to the sound and gives you a feeling of inevitability.
I would deafenetly love to chat with you but it's 3 am here, but it was great, now I have something to listen to tomorrow peace! |

Suicide Silence - The Cleansing
Whitechapel - The Somatic Defilement
Carnifex - Dead In My Arms
