| 10 Albums For The Rest Of My Life
In no particular order, here are the ten records I'd pick if I was told that I
could only have ten for the rest of my life. | 1 | | Nirvana Nevermind
Obviously, one of the most perfect rock records ever made. I don't think I could live
without it. (Favourite track: Lithium) | 2 | | Beck Mellow Gold
Awesome, bizzarre collection of anti-folk, provides the perfect soundtrack for a lazy night
where I'm not really doing anything, yet have a million thoughts going around in my
head. (Favourite track: Soul Suckin' Jerk) | 3 | | Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral
Out of all the records on this list, The Downward Spiral creates the greatest atmosphere.
Great music to draw to, very inspirational. (Favourite track: March of the Pigs) | 4 | | Shudder to Think Pony Express Record
Only recently started to get into this album and I'm totally absorbed by it. Definitely one
of the more underrated alternative records of the 90s. 'No RM. 9 Kentucky' has been one
of my favourite songs for a while now - just awesome! (Favourite track: No RM. 9
Kentucky) | 5 | | Propagandhi Less Talk, More Rock
Probably my favourite punk album ever. The second studio album from Propagandhi, this is
by far their best effort and the proof is in their trademark blend of serious political topics
with their sarcastic sense of humour. Attacking social cancers like racism, sexism, fascism,
homophobia and capitalism, the world would be a better place if we all listened to this
record. (Favourite track: I Was A Pre-Teen McCarthyist) | 6 | | Queens of the Stone Age Rated R
Incredible album. Just fuckin' listen to it. Kicks off with the classic 'Feel Good Hit of the
Summer' (with lyrics entirely composed of drugs) and doesn't let off until the end. Even
when the band slows down to tackle tracks like 'Better Living Through Chemistry' the
music becomes no less immediate. The deluxe anniversary edition is even more
awesome as it adds B-sides and some live tracks (including the garage rock romp, 'Ode
to Clarissa'. (Favourite track: Quick And To The Pointless) | 7 | | NOFX Heavy Petting Zoo
My favourite album from one of my favourite bands, Heavy Petting Zoo is a quick and
slick blast of skate punk, with an occasional ska tinge (see: Philthy Phil Philanthropist).
Filled with melodic bursts of frontman/bassist Fat Mike's hilarious social commentary.
Lots of fun, as long as you don't take it too seriously. (Favourite track: Whatever Didi
Wants) | 8 | | Slayer Reign in Blood
Perfect for those times when you feel like running around like a maniac screaming and
irritating people, Slayer's Reign in Blood is by far my top heavy metal album - as well as
the record that introduced me to the magic that is THRASH!!! One of my favourite
qualities of the album is how short it is. About 20 minutes of nothing but relentless
METAL!!!! (Favourite track: Angel of Death) | 9 | | Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream
Dreamy as fuck. I was tossing between this and My Bloody Valentine's 'Loveless' but I
went with this due to my strong love of the Smashing Pumpkins, especially on this
particular record, which I consider to be their best. 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite
Sadness' could have also easily taken this place as well, although I think this record
appeals to me a little more. I feel like if I fell asleep to this every night I'd have nothing
but awesome (and weird) dreams for the rest of my life. (Favourite track: Mayonaise) | 10 | | Green Day Dookie
The first album I ever bought, 'Dookie' is nothing but an alternative rock/pop-punk
masterpiece. Great guitar, great bass, great drums. Every member of the band offers
supreme instrumentation to every one of the songs - not a single filler track on the
album. And who could dislike an album with such hits as 'Basket Case' and 'Longview'?
Essential. (Favourite track: either Longview or Pulling Teeth) | |
