Ranking 2014 (so Far)
May as well give my input too. |
32 | | I missed an album idk which one
let's get it on |
31 | | The Kindred Life In Lucidity
1- an absolute mess of an album, pointless noise and directionless wankery that isn't even impressive in the least. |
30 | | Alcest Shelter
1.7- vapid horseshit, sets the bar for bare minimum band wagon privileges |
29 | | Destiny Potato Lun
1.7- a ridiculous combination of pop rock and djent, don't know who that this was a good idea |
28 | | Cynic Kindly Bent To Free Us
1.8- Traced in air is one of my favourite albums ever probably, so this is a huge let-down, even if say this was a '3' I can never get into it because I keep expecting high quality from Cynic. |
27 | | Real Estate Atlas
2- vapid, 'hipster' band of the month releases a snoozefest |
26 | | Sockweb Werewolf
2.3- remember that little girl who could do harsh vox on that talent show? well she has an album it is pretty mediocre to awful and very gimmicky but it is pretty fun to at least check out and some parts are surprisingly good. |
25 | | Whitechapel Our Endless War
2.3- whitechapel's worst album |
24 | | Septicflesh Titan
2.5- a bloated train wreck, sometimes less is more |
23 | | We All Die (Laughing) Thoughtscanning
2.8- above average consistently but nothing gripping either |
22 | | Every Time I Die From Parts Unknown
2.8- remember that time this band had one good album? |
21 | | Opium Warlords Taste My Sword Of Understanding
2.9- some alright background music, it does bong and doom but it is really drawn out even for the genre. |
20 | | St. Vincent St. Vincent
3- maybe most overrated album of the year? St. Vincent releases her second worst album, a big let down after how impressive Strange Mercy was. Still has some fun moments that will get caught in your head, or you`ll catch yourself bobbing your head to, but it doesn`t have the emotional impact of her other releases which is what I think she does best. |
19 | | Liars Mess
3.2- it seems liars is headed down the electronic path and I can`t say I`m beind them on that, they still have a signature sound but it feels like it is diluting with each album. This album has a nice dark presence to it, and strange vibes to be dug. |
18 | | Artificial Brain Labyrinth Constellation
3.2- decent, has some atmosphere and a lot of different interesting influences, good for a few listens |
17 | | Triptykon Melana Chasmata
3.2- i find this album frustrating because for every amazing moment on this record there is some flaw that glares out |
16 | | Linkin Park The Hunting Party
3.2- linkin park`s best in a very, very long time. Some really great tunes on here but some real duds as well, this is a good return to form for the band. |
15 | | Wild Beasts Present Tense
3.3- really pleasant indie music with nostalgic vibes and a bit of bite |
14 | | Sun Kil Moon Benji
3.4- benji is a hard hitting, emotional roller coaster which it makes a very mood specific album. However I find the extreme reliance on lyrics to drastically hurt the replay value. |
13 | | SOHN Tremors
3.4- this one slowly grew on me over time, some really beautiful, diverse vocals to get lost into, but the instrumentation can be pretty weak at times. I look forward to seeing how this artist progresses in the future. |
12 | | Death Grips The Powers That B - Part I: Niggas on the Moon
3.5- death grips doing their thing, another solid effort, it is still growing on me. |
11 | | Hark Crystalline
3.6- hey what do you know, greg actually reviewed a good album! Really love this album even though it objectively isn`t the best. Some accessible sludge metal/stoner rock(?) with progressive leanings, pretty interesting band, I'm curious to see them show a little more aggression. Gonna keep my eye on them. |
10 | | Ben Frost A U R O R A
3.6- It whirls hard (((( |
9 | | Epica The Quantum Enigma
3.6- a ridiculously over the top, cheesy album that is pretty satisfying throughout. The long run time does make this cheese fest hard to sit through fully though. |
8 | | Autopsy Tourniquets,Hacksaws and Graves
3.7- autopsy's best album in years, amazing vocals and off-kilter instrumentation but again the songwriting feels off just as their last record. |
7 | | Destrage Are You Kidding Me? No.
4- one of the most fun albums of 2014, a little sikth, a little protest the hero, and just non-stop high energy false metal. |
6 | | Sugary Sweet Machines Tours Of The Bleak
4- *album made my fellow sputnikmusic users* one of my favourites of 2014 for sure, really harsh, contemplative ambient/post-rock music to get lost in. |
5 | | tUnE-yArDs Nikki Nack
4.1- non stop fun, a little weird and consistently entertaining throughout with a surprising diversity found throughout the album. |
4 | | Have A Nice Life The Unnatural World
4.2- really beautiful album, a top contender for aoty. Emotionally powerful, lush atmosphere, full of small details to discover. |
3 | | Dead Congregation Promulgation Of The Fall
4.3- extremely solid death metal, one of the better death metal albums I've heard from the last few years. Crushing drums, sinister atmosphere and has some outstanding solos, not unlike Immolation at their prime. |
2 | | Freddie Gibbs And Madlib Pinata
4.4- probably my favourite album of the year, yea the second half isn't as good. But oh boy, do I jam this a lot. Amazing beats, awesome flow, alright lyrics. One of the best sounding and banging albums of the year. |
1 | | Swans To Be Kind
4.6- epic, massive, slow-burning, maniacal, intense, etc etc |
|
