What I'm Diggin - October 2014
Music that I'm really enjoying! (ICEAGE) |
1 | | Iceage Plowing Into The Field of Love
This album fucking. slays. Such a nice new sound from them. So much art!
Highlights: Against the Moon, How Many, The Lord's Favourite |
2 | | Blank Banshee Blank Banshee 0
Supposedly falls under Vaporwave, but it's really just an amazing electronic album
that uses samples and original instrumentation in perfect harmony.
Highlights: Wavestep, Teen Pregnancy |
3 | | Adult Jazz Gist Is
Basically everything the new Alt-J record should've been. Complex, experimental,
groovy.
Highlights: Entire album |
4 | | Flying Lotus You're Dead!
Such a trip. At times feels a bit disjointed but overall his best work yet.
Highlights: Tesla, Never Catch Me |
5 | | Brian Eno and Karl Hyde High Life
I think this album was a huge sleeper hit, their first collaboration as Eno & Hyde
was pretty bad, but with this seemingly B-side record they made a whole different
beast with some awesome grooves and drones.
Highlights: DBF, Lilac |
6 | | Interpol El Pintor
IMO a way better album than Antics (and slightly better than Our Love To Admire..
I'm one of their more polarizing fans), this album has them return to making some
punchy rock songs with Kessler's cool guitar and lyrics that, for the most part,
aren't silly. (No I in Threesome anyone?) Highlights: Anywhere, Tidal Wave, Same Town New Story |
7 | | Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks Enter the Slasher House
At first I thought that this album was what Centipede Hz should've been, but then I
calmed down and realized it's a bit front-loaded. Centipede Hz has since grown on
me and this album not so much..
Highlights: Little Fang, A Sender, Strange Colores |
8 | | Caribou Our Love
A really great release from Caribou but it never quite hits the heights of Can't Do
Without You again. Funny because Swim had the same issue, with the entire album
being overshadowed by the lead single (Odessa). I still really like it but it's just the
tiniest bit underwhelming after a four year wait.
Highlights: Can't Do Without You, Second Chance |
9 | | The Drums Encyclopedia
The Drums got really dark. Actually enjoying this for the most part. Pretty cool
stuff, if not a bit formulaic.
Highlights: I Can't Pretend, Kiss Me Again |
10 | | Tycho Awake
I just kind of figured that this wouldn't top Dive, and while I definitely still prefer
Dive, this album is also pretty cool
Highlights: Apogee |
