| '90s Hip-hop: East Vs. West (pt. 1)
I can't decide whether I'm an east or west coast kind of guy. It's like choosing your favorite child. What's your opinion? | 1 | East Coast | 2 | West Coast | |
IsItLuck?
05.30.08 | East coast. Biggie and Wu-Tang. | Jack Wilson
05.30.08 | east. ^^mobb deep | cometuesday
05.30.08 | yeah definitely east, without question. | botb
05.30.08 | i'd have to say west actually... snoop, dre and tupac. | SHOOTME
05.30.08 | East, Mobb, Bigg, Wu-Tang, and others.
| Big Baby Jesus
05.31.08 | Ugh, trust me. I've been here on the west coast 18 of my 19 years, and it's dramatically overrated. The biggest argument for the west Coast is 2Pac....
....Who was born in New York, raised in D.C., so yeahhh, NWA, Mac Dre, Too $hort, and Snoop aren't enough, and I'm still clueless as to how and why the Game is famous. Even with 2Pac, the west coast was nowhere near as important and awesome as east coast rap. If anything, West Coast Rap made rap more pop oriented, which might be the reason so much hip-hop has been sucking for the last few years.
East Coast. LL Cool J, who claims to be the G.O.A.T., Christopher Wallace, who really is the G.O.A.T., Nas, Wu-Tang, Public Enemy, Mobb deep, Eric B and Rakim, MF DOOM, Kool Keith, Jay-Z..... Would you like me to stop or should I keep up the West Coast Rapeage. Honestly, Bro(rape) It's not even close
....I liked West coast rap first, btw. And still do, it's just no real comparison. It's kinda like comparing American Black Metal to European Black Metal. | Seantmpc13
05.31.08 | Overall, the East has been stronger through all the years of Hip-Hop/Rap. But the '90s East vs. West was mainly between Death Row Records and Bad Boy Records, which in that case the West was much stronger. | IsItLuck?
05.31.08 | how do you figure? | Big Baby Jesus
06.01.08 | Umm, I think you're completely forgetting about Def Jam in the ninties as well.
It doesn't matter which decade, the east coast will always be stronger. | Seantmpc13
06.01.08 | I'm saying that the rivalry wasn't between East and West. It was specifically Death Row vs. Bad Boy. There were a lot of rappers on each coast who weren't involved in the rivalry. Also, Southern Rap is more to blame for making Hip-Hop pop oriented, with crunk and snap music and whatnot. That's just my opinion though. | Seantmpc13
06.01.08 | I like Def Jam too, by the way. Beastie Boys, EPMD, and Public Enemy are some of the best Hip-Hop artists I have ever heard. | combustion07
06.10.08 | West fo sho | Doppelganger
06.10.08 | east by far | Spamue1G
07.17.08 | West coast only really had a few greats- Don't get me wrong, I love the west coast, Tupac is probably my favourite rapper of all time, but past him you only got Dre and Snoop Dogg, but East has Nas, Wu-Tang, Biggie, AZ, Mobb Deep to name a few. Overall, the east wins easily, but the west does have possibly the best on their side (had, really, but still). | ECRbubs
01.09.09 | East Coast.
B.I.G. may have been the greatest rapper of all time. |
