Add some Bowie to the list. |

11.18.14 | Looks more like you want to work for Cumulus going by this list of songs. |
ArsMoriendi
11.18.14 | " introduce people to music they may not have heard otherwis"
Why did you include a #1 single then? |
Dylan620
11.18.14 | "might wanna take another look at the songs"
You got me on songs like 1 and 8 but 2, 3, 7, 9, 12, and 13 all fit the idea of mine that you quoted.
"gorguts to gotye is seamless, dude"
Really is though, listen to "The Carnal State" and STIUTK back-to-back and you'll see what I'm talking about. Great calm-after-the-storm effect.
ArsMoriendi, agreed about 4 (it's horribly underrated by their standards) and Bowie will definitely happen under my eye. I love the crap out of "Space Oddity" and I'd love to open one of my playlists with that one. I will say though, I haven't heard nearly enough Bowie. All I've heard is his Best of Bowie compilation. What studio albums would you recommend? |
Dylan620
11.18.14 | "Why did you include a #1 single then?"
Because I love that song. I do intend to throw in some hidden gems, but not to limit it to *only* obscure stuff. |
NorthernSkylark
11.18.14 | not enough teen angst on this list
and i was kinda expecting some obscure dylan b-sides |
SeaAnemone
11.18.14 | college radio djs are categorically some of the most insufferable people on the planet |
ArsMoriendi
11.18.14 | Yeah this girl at my LGBTA club said I should DJ since we bonded over Bowie, The Smashing Pumpkins, and some other stuff and she's one of the head people at the College Radio thing.
But I have to wait until next semester to apply. I hope the listeners are ready for 18 minutes of "Halleluhwah" by Can. |

11.18.14 | do it man I DJ at my school and its pretty fun and a great way to meet people or even grind out some homework in a chill setting after throwing on a playlist
" I feel that I can introduce people to music they may not have heard otherwise"
lol literally every single person goes in with that mentality tho, its obvious which radio blocks are trying to play "what isn't on the radio" and what blocks are just people playing what they find chill |
Dylan620
11.18.14 | "i was kinda expecting some obscure dylan b-sides "
Funny you should mention Dylan, another fantasy radio playlist I made has "Simple Twist of Fate" on it |
NorthernSkylark
11.18.14 | positively 4th street tho |

11.18.14 | Hey man as a former DJ with my own weekly radio block I can give a bit of perspective. At my school, if you
did AAA (the day radio basically) you didn't have too much influence over what comes on. We could add new
music sometimes, but if the program director didn't like it, it didn't go on. You can pretty much count any
band like Gorguts out if you are trying to do a block during the day. Also, most of our blocks were themed
(mine was friday night death metal/hardcore, we also had a 80's-90's prog, underground hip-hop, rustic
blues, etc) so if you are trying to do a specialized block your music needs to all be in the same general
genre. Few listeners want true diversity in their radio station blocks. An alt rock guy doesn't want an
extreme metal song or a blues diddy interjected into their listening time. This playlist would make a great
mix CD to give to a friend or something, however I don't think it would really work for the general public.
I hope you get the job though dude! |
Dylan620
11.21.14 | Hey man, thanks for the input! Yeah, the ability to exercise greater control over what I play is why I'd want to play more at night than during the day. I'm hoping I could do a potpurri-themed block where I could get away with this kind of variety :P I love stringing different genres of music together into cohesive playlists (the music I'm in the mood for tends to wildly vary; one minute I'll be in the next for indie pop, the next I'll be craving death metal, and the next after that I'll jam some classic rock, and so on so forth), but if I have to do themed blocks, then I could adjust to that setting. Like I said, my tastes are very diverse, so I could do a different theme each week (metal one week, alt-rock the next, maybe throw in what little hip-hop I know for good measure). I could also honor entire albums in one sitting, like OK Computer, The Shape of Punk to Come, Badmotorfinger, etc. Thanks again for chipping in, Benc! |
