Things To Look Forward To 2015
20 upcoming releases to get pumped for. No particular order. |
1 | | Viet Cong Viet Cong
If you haven't heard of this band yet, you should probably get on it. Post-Punk/Shoegaze, formed from the ashes of the beloved band Women, their Cassette EP was great, and the new album is excellent (leaked like three weeks ago). Set to dominate next year. "Continental Shelf" is most excellent. Due: 1/20/15 |
2 | | Sleater-Kinney No Cities To Love
Girl punk rock titans return after an almost 10 year hiatus. First single "Bury Our Friends" was a nice slice of power punk. Due: 1/20/15 |
3 | | Modest Mouse No One's First, and You're Next
It's been a long time coming but it's finally here. Sort of. Monday we get the new single, and I'm guessing a new album announcement. News reports say that new album is set to drop Q1 2015. |
4 | | Panda Bear Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper
Indie darling Noah Lennox returns in January with his follow up to 2011's "Tomboy," and it's already floating around out there. Just based on preliminary listens, this one sounds more accessible to the casual listener, not as experimental at times. "Mr. Noah" is a great gateway for those unfamiliar with his style. Due: 1/13/15 |
5 | | Radiohead The King of Limbs
They entered the studio in September. Past experiences show us that they are quick to release music after they are dong recording/mastering, without worrying about distribution. Some hope a more rock oriented return to form is in order, but I doubt it. Hopefully they'll give us a studio version of "Identikit" finally. Q2/Q3. |
6 | | Father John Misty I Love You, Honeybear
Follow up to his insanely lovable Fear Fun, FJM returns with the new single "Bored in the USA." Not my favorite track by him, but it's definitely enjoyable. Hopefully there will be something along the lines of Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings. Due: 2/10/15 |
7 | | Tool 10,000 Days
With legal battles set to be rectified in January, and the band already promoting studio work, maybe we'll finally get that long, long, long, long, awaited album. Personally, I'm more concerned about it actually getting released, regardless of it's good or not, just tired of waiting. Due: Who the hell knows |
8 | | The Dodos Individ
Consistently solid folk-pop duo is set to drop their new album in Q1. First single "Competition" is nothing special, but the artwork for Individ is stunning. So far they haven't disappointed, so I'm expecting good things from them. Due: 1/27/15 |
9 | | The Decemberists What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World
This is already out there for you to enjoy, if you like doing that, and after a few listens, it's another solid entry in their vast catalog. I may still yearn for the days of Castaways, but this is the direction they are going with and it's not all bad. Due 1/20/15 |
10 | | Courtney Barnett The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas
Singer-Songwriter is planning on releasing the follow up to her compilation EPs with a full studio album next year, supposedly Q1/Q2. "Avant Gardner" is amazing, so there are good things on the horizon from her hopefully. |
11 | | Beach House Bloom
Indie favorites have been dormant for awhile which usually means they are working on material. They've broken the 2 year tendency, so hopefully 2015 will see them drop a new LP. Plus, they just finished their "cold countries" tour which will open up some new insight for them. Due: Q4? |
12 | | Savages Silence Yourself
Post-punk ragers confirmed the debut of new material at their string of NYC shows next month, a new album is not far behind. Due: Q2/Q3. |
13 | | The Soft Moon Zeroes
For the last two albums, SM has fiddled with the shoegaze genre quite a bit. None of that has come to head quite as well as his new single "Black." Hard work and determination have paid off it seems. Due: 3/31/14 "Deeper" |
14 | | The Jesus & Mary Chain Munki
In an interview last month, the band stated that they are working on new material. Should they put it out? Who knows, but the JAMC is amazing. Due: ?? |
15 | | Tame Impala Lonerism
They're one of the biggest indie bands in the world right now because of Lonerism. A few shows have been announced, and in this day and age you've gotta follow up that iconic album with another equally good album. Speculative on my part, but it seems about right. Due: Q4? |
16 | | DIIV Oshin
It was supposed to come in 2014, but after a brief tour, it was decided to push it back. I haven't heard any of the new material yet, but I'd expect to be on par with their debut. Due: Q2/Q3. |
17 | | Swervedriver 99th Dream
90s shoegaze band recently announced a return tour, and promises new music in 2015. My prediction: Q4. |
18 | | The Wrens The Meadowlands
It's finally upon us! The band, their label, news outlets, all confirmed that the new Wrens album will finally drop in 2015. Due: Q3 or Q4 I bet. |
19 | | Wilco The Whole Love
I haven't enjoyed much of their new material for the better part of the last decade but they tend to have a few gems here and there. Tweedy put out that record with his son last year, which could lead to a new album. The band hasn't stopped their typically ambitious and rigorous touring schedule either. Due: Q4. |
20 | | California X Nights In The Dark
Not much to be said about this, but I'm looking forward to it since their debut was a nice chunk of 90s alternative rock in the vein of Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., and Nirvana. I expect this new record to be on par with that. It won't break any new ground, but still be a fun one. Due: 1/13/15. |
