Best Of 2014

My personal best of 2014 list. Pretty much goes in order of what I thought was the best albums. Always up for recs that sound like these!
1Somos
Temple of Plenty

It was tough to choose what was better; this album or Gates' new LP. I had to choose this one because there is literally no filler whatsoever and it is ridiculously catchy. Any emo/pop-punk fans need to get into this.
2Gates
Bloom and Breathe

Such an amazing album! 'Not My Blood' literally was probably the most moving song of 2014 for me. The ending of that song is so fantastic. Wasn't my favorite of 2014 because I did think there were a couple tracks they could have done without.
3Joyce Manor
Never Hungover Again

Joyce Manor killing it again! Loved this record and how Joyce Manor can create masterpieces that are barely over 20 minutes long. The melodies on this album are just so infectious! Pretty damn close to being better than their Self-Titled.
4Real Estate
Atlas

Another chill, beautiful album from Real Estate. They know how to achieve a certain mood that I love in music.
5 You Blew It!
Keep Doing What You're Doing

This album got a lot of hate on this site and I honestly don't know why. The production was such a step above than "Grow Up, Dude". Had great guitar parts and overall great instrumentation. Hey You Blew It! KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!
6Mac Demarco
Salad Days

Mac Demarco is a guitar genius. Love the riffs on this album and the addition of the synthesizers. 'Let Her Go' has one of the most moving guitar parts out of any song I've heard in awhile. Plus, its Mac Demarco...his persona is just so great!
7Have Mercy
A Place Of Our Own

Not as good as "The Earth Pushed Back" but I still thought there were some really killer tracks on this LP. Love the vocal melody on 'Howl' and the hook as well.
8Tiny Moving Parts
Pleasant Living

Tiny Moving Parts' singer/guitarist is literally one of the most talented musicians in the music industry right now. I've seen him pull off these riffs perfectly live while singing.. it's absolutely insane. This album was pretty good but I didn't like it was much as "This Couch Is Long........" I admire how they went for a more 'raw' approach for the production, but I think their last LP was a little more better due to production reasons.
9The Menzingers
Rented World

I'm pretty sure I've become convinced that The Menzingers can't make a bad LP. Three great albums in a row! Not as good as "On The Impossible Past" but this album had a ton of highlights to it.
10Cheatahs
Cheatahs

Really good shoegaze! 'The Swan' is such a stellar track!
11Braid
No Coast

Braid really knows how to write strange yet catch melodies. Great comeback record from these dudes.
