01.14.15 | You got some great recommends here so far. Happy to see lots of great taste in horror here. Another I would recommend that's a B-movie "creature feature" parody is called Feeding Frenzy, a film made by the guys over at RedLetterMedia. If you're looking for a great horror related review from them, check out the Half in the Bag review of Evil Dead (the last 5 minutes or so are EPIC). |

01.14.15 | it's a classic so you've prob seen it but OG Texas Chain Saw Massacre is horrifying and awesome. maybe my fav horror film. idk if they're considered horror but at the time they were frightening - the universal monsters. really big fan of a lot of those films. of course you have those George A. Romero movies which are mostly awesome. also I'm realising that I'm a bit of a horror movie pleb. love '80s horror/comedies as well, Night of the Living Dead, Re-Animator, etc.
need to watch them again because I didn't think much at the time but House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects are highly praised.

01.15.15 | you know the monster loses all mystery and intrigue when it's shown, right? like, when it's in plain view it's nowhere near as scary as when it's lurking in the shadows with certain features sticking out. have you no imagination? |
Crymsonblaze
01.15.15 | the more you show something, the scarier it becomes! it gives the audience a chance to examine it, so you want to get shots of it doing a wide variety of things. any horror movie in which the creature performs a musical is the scariest, because music is the doorway to the soul, and seeing the true nature of the creature is truly terrifying
i don't know why more filmmakers don't capitalize on this |
Insurrection

01.15.15 | that's kind of the point of both films--the tension created by only seeing the horror and panic on the faces of the characters, and being on the edge of your seat about when something *might* pop out at you or scurry through the corner of the video.
On the subject of Blair Witch though, Bobcat Goldthwait directed Willow Creek which is like the same thing with Bigfoot. Haven't finished it but it seemed decent so far. |

Insurrection
01.17.15 | i thought cabin fever was hilarious and fun but idk why they would want to remake it |
Crymsonblaze
01.17.15 | it's pretty fun but i don't think it stacks up to other horror comedies |
TychoBrahe
01.17.15 | Cabin Fever is an awesome film. The dogs, Listerine, squirrel hunting, incredible dialogue, plus all the horror homages and stuff. Great horror comedy with a lot of replay value. Having it remade seems pointless especially considering it only came out like 10 years ago. Do they think they can cash in on Cabin in the Woods' recent box office success or something? This is like Old Boy all over again but shit isn't even foreign. |
TedSchmosby
01.17.15 | i have no idea why they're doing it. i used to rent cabin fever from the video store all the time when i was a kid, and me and my friends would watch it over and over, but i haven't seen it in at least 5 years. did any of you guys watch the sequel? the dick scene is still etched into my memory |
TychoBrahe
01.17.15 | Yeah, the scene was disgusting. Ti West (House of the Devil) did the sequel. I was super psyched about it when I first heard he was going to be behind it but it was a bit of a let down. I guess he really got screwed over by the studio too, they basically changed the entire ending of the film according to him. Then again, although House of the Devil is a favorite of mine I don't feel like West has lived up to that with his other films. |
TedSchmosby
01.17.15 | i didn't think the sequel was an awful movie, but it definitely didn't live up to the expectations i had while following the production online. the original cabin fever was so sweet though. it was weird seeing shawn hunter have a sex scene and get covered in blood. i remember i named my pet hamster doctor mambo lol |
Duckman118
01.17.15 | I don't understand what people find so creepy about The Babadook. I went into that movie expecting it to be as good as everyone was saying, but was just bored as fuck watching it. Not scary, not eerie, did absolutely nothing for me. Is it only supposed to scare Australians or something? It being and Aussie myth and all?
And again, Birdemic 1 & 2. |

01.17.15 | non-aussie here and i found the babadook pretty creepy
i mean it's not terrifying or anything but i found it pretty tense, although tbh, the first time she reads the book to her son is the scariest part of the movie. that book is so well-designed and spooky
even apart from the horror aspect, i thought it was a really great drama / metaphor for depression |
TedSchmosby
01.17.15 | essie davis knocked it out of the fucking park |
emprorzurg
01.17.15 | "Is it only supposed to scare Australians or something? It being and Aussie myth and all"
the Babadook isn't an Australian myth, although I can excuse you for thinking so, as the word Babadook sounds Aboriginal. It's based off a short film called Monster, and has nothing to do with Australia itself |

05.17.15 | the babadook was brilliant. not even just as a horror movie but from a filmmaking standpoint its damn near perfect |
Insurrection

"Good horror movies are usually called thrillers. "
this is true, but one movie that has a distinction between them is The Guest. the first two acts are pretty straightforward action/thriller but horror elements are added to the third act and it makes a noticeable difference |

05.18.15 | There needs to be more awesome horror anthologies. The last good one I've seen was Trick 'r Treat and that was eight years ago. |

05.18.15 | the vhs movies are pretty fun anthologies even if they're nothing special and they're sort of hit/miss. other than the 3rd one which was kind of entirely garbo the first 2 both have some really great moments |
Iamthe Nightstars
05.18.15 | Oh yeah, I forgot about those. Vhs 2 was great. I only liked the first and last story from the first vhs. Viral wasn't that good but it was an entertaining watch at least. |

05.19.15 | the first story in the first vhs is great
so is the cult one from vhs 2
i watched viral on netflix the other day and it's maybe one of the most incompetent anthologies i've ever seen |
