02.14.15 | this was so f*ing difficult to create! |

02.15.15 | 30 and 84! Nice, I'll have to check a couple I haven't heard. It's definitely much improved, though I can
still be picky. Heard 3 on my psych contest and it's definitely not prog. I don't think 27 is that special
aside from the Opeth connection. Switch out the Procol Harum debut for "Shine Brightly" 'cause that's where
the real prog is at! |
Mythodea
02.15.15 | I can't change Procol Harum, the year will be wrong. Anyway, I put it here because other users told me they started the whole thing, so I decided to put their debut. 27 has been commemorated quite some times, so I decided to include it, no matter how obscure or irrelevant. As for 3, I think it belongs to the protoprogressive wave, which emerged from jazz, psychedelic etc, like Spirit and other bands. That's why it's here.
Thanks though, for taking some time to go through the list! |
Veldin
02.15.15 | Procol Harum debut is considered the first prog album tho Friday |
Veldin
02.15.15 | Excellent and loaded list. The transition to metal seems a bit awkward, but overall an incredible list. Good job, mate! Prog on |
Onirium
02.15.15 | Great list, you definitely succeeded in picking highlights from every side and "era" of the genre, it
certainly shows its evolution over the years. There's some albums in here I wouldn't properly consider prog,
but I think that's highly subjective at this point anyways. |
Mythodea
02.15.15 | I know, Veldin. I just couldn't find many albums of the late 70's /early-mid 80's to make a smooth
transition. Anyway, the last 20 years (next list) will include many gems, I hope you guys like it. I
haven't listened to some of these, so I also have it as a reminder. |
Friday13th
02.15.15 | @Mythodea I get you.
@Veldin an argument could be made, but Shine on Brightly has "In Held 'Twas In I" which is so far and away the proggiest thing up to that point in time. And the original U.K. debut didn't have "Whiter Shade of Pale" so that's like minus 1000 points right there ;] |
Friday13th
02.15.15 | Oh and Mythodea, why did you snub Dream Theater? I figured you were more of a Fates Warning guy, but dang not even I&W? |
TalonsOfFire
02.15.15 | Great job dude, am looking forward to Part II as well |
Friday13th
02.15.15 | oops I see, part 2 is on the way with '92 on. For some reason I thought Mental Vortex was like '93 but that's my bad. |
Veldin
02.15.15 | Stoked to listen to Fates Warning discog. And I recently listened to Mental Vortex and DAMN. |
Jethro42
02.15.15 | Excellent job, Mythodea. It's refreshing to see some Genesis, Renaissance, Curved Air, Supertramp, Triumvirat, McLuhan, Horslips etc...
I agree with Friday about song ''In Held 'Twas in I'' (Procol Harum) being the first progressive track ever made.
|
Jethro42
02.15.15 | ''I can't change Procol Harum, the year will be wrong.''
Oh I see. It's okay like that anyway. There are some proto-prog songs in their first album. |
Mythodea
02.15.15 | Thanks a lot,guys.
@Friday13th Yeah, the list is not finished yet (it will never be, actually!) Funny thing is I am not a FW guy, I can't get usued to their sound easily! But, yeah, DT are in Pt.II
@Jethro42 It was terrible to forget such names as Genesis, Renaissance, CA etc. Though, much credit goes to other users for pointing them out!

JamieTwort
02.15.15 | Good list. I agree with what people said about Procol Harum (obviously, as I was the one that suggested Shine On Brightly haha) but their debut is just as (proto-)proggy as The Moody Blues etc. so it's inclusion is fine.
No Voyage of the Acolyte though :[ |
Mythodea
02.15.15 | @Jamie Twort You kidding me, right???!! D: |
JamieTwort
02.15.15 | ???
I'm saying it's a good list, really good actually, just missing one of my favourite prog albums. |
Mythodea
02.15.15 | I say it jokingly, because you will always know and suggest new things, no matter how complete I think the list is! |
JamieTwort
02.15.15 | Haha, I think you'll find I did actually suggest that album in the comments for your previous list ;) |
Mythodea
02.15.15 | Really? Damn! I'll include more recent albums from Steve Hackett in the next list. Which one do you think is better from his post '91 discography? |
JamieTwort
02.15.15 | Beyond the Shrouded Horizon is probably his best out of his more recent albums. Don't let me force you to include him though. Voyage of the Acolyte and Spectral Mornings are the only ones I would call prog essentials anyway. |
Mythodea
02.15.15 | yeah, okay. As you wish! I'd include him just that his name was somewhere here, but I guess you're right. |
eddie95
02.15.15 | great job dude, I'm so glad you added the albums I suggested :') |
TwigTW
02.16.15 | Great list! |
Mythodea
02.16.15 | thanks, both eddie95 and TWIGtheWONDERKID. Now there's a part II, if you want to see the rest or/and suggest something you think is missing. |
