03.03.15 | 50s post war teen rebellion spawned rock n roll
60s conflict and drug culture aided creativity and originality
70s talent was honed new genres formed, anger was an energy
80s alt and post comedown plus hip-hop
90s a last hurrah and a mix of everything that came before with splashes of bleeps and bloops
2000s albums influenced by preceding years made by people whose souls were diminishing
2010s albums influenced by preceding years made by clueless fuckers. |

03.03.15 | i'ma say 2000s just because most of my favourite albums were from that decade. that's not to say that it was an overall better musical decade than any other; in fact, i'd argue that it was probably the worst, disregarding the 2010s which aren't over yet.
a lot of how we judge music against time these days is by estimating the degree to which music has been commodified, which i think emerged most strongly in the '90s in the aftermath of alternative and punk commercial success. Perry Farrell said something once along the lines of "at that point the record labels decided 'no more freaks; we're just going to dress up some girl and give her a song and make a ton of money'". even the most popular, commercial music from before the '90s seemed of a higher calibre than that which has been produced more recently (except for disco music). however, pop music is becoming significantly more interesting again in the 2010s imo. |

Why do you say that? I mean, sure, it may be overrated, and it had a lot of the worst music ever recorded, but the '90s were a great time for experimentation and had a technological advantage over the '60s/'70s which still makes it the best decade for music. |
