03.28.15 | Nice, ELP wouldn't be my choice but I understand the logic behind their inclusion. In terms of commercial appeal maybe so, but Rush is better and more popular. If we're looking at just first wave talent though, VDGG is better though granted not as popular. In the end, ELP was a highly influential and popular first-wave prog band that just happens to sound dated compared to their peers. Good stuff anyways :] |

03.28.15 | sheep is my favorite pink floyd song |
TheSpaceMan
03.28.15 | dude absolutely spot on with the song choices |
Snowdog808
03.28.15 | Nice! I think Animals is my new favorite Floyd album, even if "Echoes" is still my favorite track of theirs. |
Snowdog808
03.28.15 | I had no idea even my list would get an adbot. |
Snowdog808
03.28.15 | I think all those tracks are super solid except maybe "Fanfare" |
ArsMoriendi
03.28.15 | Roundabout over Starship Trooper? Damn. Starship Trooper is honestly my favorite Yes song...
Also, yeah Animals is the best, but I still like Pigs the most... even though Dog and Sheep are obviously also great. |
Cygnatti
03.28.15 | Lily was gone with windowpane |
Jethro42
03.28.15 | Awesome list. I particularly love your Genesis picks. For ELP, have you considered ''The Endless Enigma'' and ''Knife Edge''. For Jethro Tull, I have couple other suggestions but you already have some fantastic calls;
Bourée
To Cry You A Song
Black Satin Dancer
Moth
No Lullabye
We Used to Know
These are the ones that come off of my head. |
Snowdog808
03.28.15 | Nice to see you Jethro!
I love those two ELP tracks, and honestly can't name a weak song on their first four, but the debut's lengthier tracks are the most special to me. |
Muzaker
03.28.15 | No Firth Of Fifth for your Genesis choices? |
Jethro42
03.29.15 | I just bumped up to a 4.5/5 the ELP's debut album and I'm not sure why I don't give it a 5. I love how the album's first half showcases their group efforts, and the individual prowess of the three band members on the second.
Here are some other great songs by Jethro Tull;
Living in the Past
Salamander
Too Old to Rock'n Roll, Too Young to Die
Beside Myself
Black Sunday
Look at the Animals
Law of the Bungle part II
Critique Oblique
Sweet Dreams |
TheSpaceMan
03.29.15 | ELP's first album is so good its a shame I cant get into their others...
and Heavy Horses, Broadsword, Mother Goose and Orion are also some great Tull songs no ones mentioned! |
Snowdog808
03.29.15 | I recently received Too Old to Rock and Roll, and it's pretty underrated. I love "Velvet Green" a lot too. |
Torontonian
03.29.15 | nice. none from TLDDOB for genesis tho? cool list idea. |
beefshoes
03.29.15 | Where's Camel? |
Snowdog808
03.29.15 | I love Camel but they were not called part of the big six. The idea of the big six is not even mine to begin with. |
Frippertronics
03.29.15 | def would have Awaken on the Yes section |
Snowdog808
03.29.15 | There's honestly so many awesome 1977 and back Yes albums that I'm bound to leave SO many off. "Awaken" is certainly my favorite post-Relayer Yes song though. |
Royl123
03.29.15 | Us and them man... |
Snowdog808
03.29.15 | I love that song but it's only my fourth favorite on Dark Side. I hope Jamie joins our prog party. |
JamieTwort
03.29.15 | Nice list. Some questionable Genesis picks though. Return of the Giant Hogweed would be nowhere near my top 6 or even top 10. Also the likes of Firth of Fifth and Cinema Show are leagues ahead of The Battle of Epping Forest for me when it comes to the 4 epics on Selling England.
I'll do one favourite from each (where possible):
Close to the Edge (no other Yes song comes even remotely close)
Starless
The Lamia
Knife Edge
Echoes/Dogs
Moths (not a prog song at all but I'm guessing it still counts?) |
Torontonian
03.29.15 | i'd take gates of delirium over close to the edge any day of the week tbh. |
JamieTwort
03.29.15 | Yes are one of my least favourites of the big prog bands but Close to the Edge (song) is special. |
altertide0
09.24.15 | 1. "In the Court of the Crimson King"
2. "Interstellar Overdrive"
3. "Close to the Edge"
4. "The Musical Box"
5. "Thick as a Brick"
6. "Tarkus" |
