Overkill Ranked

I'm catching Overkill on their co-headlining tour with Symphony X that's coming up. They're one of my favorite bands, and definitely one of the most consistent metal bands of all time. This is my ranking of their releases. Thrash!!!
1Overkill
The Years of Decay

One of the finest thrash albums ever. This is a relentless barrage of riffs that don't ever let up. Not only does it thrash hard, it rocks hard! Each track offers something unique and is a vital piece of this metallic masterpiece.

TOP TRACKS...
Elimination
The Birth of Tension
Skullkrusher
The Years of Decay
2Overkill
Feel the Fire

A legendary debut LP!!! This, along with Kill 'em All and a few others, was among the first thrash metal albums to hit the scene. Every song is catchy and full of raw aggression. This is what many might call a thrashterpiece.

TOP TRACKS...
Rotten to the Core
Feel the Fire
Kill at Command
Overkill
3Overkill
Taking Over

An often overlooked gem of thrash that doesn't fail to capture your attention and get you headbanging! The guitar tone is very different on this one compared to the buzz-saw quality of FtF, some might say it detracts from the potential heaviness of the album, but I think it still worked.

TOP TRACKS...
Wrecking Crew
Overkill II
In Union We Stand
Powersurge
4Overkill
Under the Influence

An immensely raw and unique sound for Overkill. This album literally sounds like a thrash band playing loud and fun music in the sewers of New York City. D.D.'s bass lines are driving and pummeling, Gustafson wrote some extremely catchy riffs, Blitz gives an awesome and versatile vocal performance, and every track is a total thrasher! Awesome album!

TOP TRACKS...
Drunken Wisdom
Never Say Never
Head First
Overkill III
5Overkill
Horrorscope

Overkill hit the ground running when the 90's came around, and this album is certainly evidence of that! Many might call this their best, but it's not quite there for me. Don't get me wrong, the songs are fantastic and the album is definitely awesome. I couldn't say exactly why this didn't hit home quite as hard for me. Maybe it was the production, I couldn't say for sure. But either way, this album is among their best. Definitely worth picking up if you see it!

TOP TRACKS...
Horrorscope
Coma
Nice Day... For a Funeral
Infectious
6Overkill
Ironbound

The perfect example that this band is still kicking and strong as ever. With 14 albums under their belt, we might find it hard to believe that a band could write an album on par with their early material. Especially a thrash band, seeing as aggression tends to fade with age. Blitz and the boys certainly proved us wrong, because this album is without a doubt one of the best in their entire discography! Just goes to show that legends never die! Young bands had better watch out.

TOP TRACKS...
Ironbound
Endless War
The Green and Black
The SRC
7Overkill
The Electric Age

Another solid release from recent Overkill. Though not quite as good as Ironbound, it's still a fantastic album!

TOP TRACKS...
Electric Rattlesnake
Drop the Hammer Down
Wish You Were Dead
Good Night
8Overkill
Killbox 13

An overlooked gem in the Overkill catalogue. This offers the listener the thrash we've come to love along with elements of groove metal and good old fashioned rock n' roll! This album's a jam!

TOP TRACKS...
I Rise
Damned
Devil by the Tail
The Sound of Dying
9Overkill
Immortalis

A nice groovy, and doomy at points, piece of thrash. Solid album, and I loved the contribution of Randy Blythe.

TOP TRACKS...
Skull and Bones
What It Takes
Head On
Hell Is
10Overkill
W.F.O

An extremely bassy and 'supersonic' thrash album. Definitely unique for Overkill with regards to production. A bold endeavor for the band that I think worked and gave us some awesome tracks.

TOP TRACKS...
Supersonic Hate
Gasoline Dream
Fast Junkie
Under One
11Overkill
White Devil Armory

Another recent Overkill release. Very consistent, but not as good as Electric Age or Ironbound in my eyes.

TOP TRACKS...
Another Day to Die
Where There's Smoke
Bitter Pill
In the Name
12Overkill
Bloodletting

A very groove-oriented thrash album. Definitely worth checking out for the killer tracks, but there's a bit of filler on here admittedly.

TOP TRACKS...
Let It Burn
Thunderhead
I, Hurricane
Blown Away
13Overkill
From the Underground and Below

Groovy and solid, but again there's some filler on here. However, I definitely appreciate the industrial twist the band decided to throw in. I think it really spiced things up, and the album is still awesome.

TOP TRACKS...
F.U.C.T.
It Lives
Long Time Dyin'
Save Me
14Overkill
Necroshine

A good but somewhat unmemorable album in the Overkill discography. There are some jams on here and every song is decent, but they tend to blend together. The groove is there, but the production holds it back from being as punchy as an album like Killbox 13 or Underground. Good album nonetheless.

TOP TRACKS...
Necroshine
Stone Cold Jesus
I Am Fear
Dead Man
15Overkill
The Killing Kind

There are a few songs on here that feel pretty bland, but there are definitely some really awesome ones as well. Give this one a listen.

TOP TRACKS...
God-Like
Cold, Hard Fact
Burn You Down
Feeding Frenzy
16Overkill
I Hear Black

A dark and somewhat gothic experiment for Overkill. I totally appreciate their effort, but this didn't do that much for me. Some people think this album is really underrated, but it's definitely one of their worst if you ask me. Not to say it's bad, because it isn't. But there isn't much potency or speed compared to their other albums. They decided to mic it up and slow things down, which is totally fine. But the final product isn't on the same level as their other releases. Although there are a few tracks here I admittedly do enjoy.

TOP TRACKS...
Spiritual Void
Weight of the World
Undying
Just Like You
17Overkill
Relix IV

Their weakest link. The production is stuffy and it just feels pretty bland overall. But here's the thing, this is a really strong album for being the worst in their entire discography. In fact, the album is good! If we were to judge bands by their weakest output, Overkill would be ranked very highly. Still though, the album is a bit of a let down when compared to the rest of their releases. Old School is killer though!

TOP TRACKS...
Bats in the Belfry
Loaded Rack
Old School
Wheelz
