Sevengill: Favorite Drummers

Sevengill 05.15.15	Not a broad range of genres here. I haven't gotten around to contemporary jazz much, which undoubtedly has some of the best percussionists.

Sevengill 05.15.15	Flynn is wicked and Peart's a master, but I've never really gotten into Rush as a band. I find it hard to have a favorite musician whose work mostly came before I was born, like Collins, Bruford, or Moon. But yeah, no argument with the quality of those, KILL.

PotsyTater 05.15.15	Danny Walker is great and Mario is good too but like fuck some of these are just like typical progressive technical metal drummers also fuck Bran Dailor so hard in general tho this list needs some non metal drummers so hard

It's easy to appreciate his awesome achievements but there isn't that personal connection that comes with meeting someone, seeing them play live, eagerly anticipating their next release and having your faith rewarded.

Sevengill 05.15.15	I saw some of their most recent live DVD on Palladium and really enjoyed it. Will certainly give them a go sooner or later. (Also, I prefer dudette. Not that anyone cares.)

theNateman 05.16.15	He's a really good drummer. He may not be the best person, but you have to admit, he's capable of doing some pretty phenomenal beats. All you have to do is look at the Blink-182 s/t album for some great examples

He just doesn't give a fuck and plays what he wants, which half the time is pretty technical. I can't emphasis enough how much I hate the man, but I can't say he's shit at playing.

SgtShock 05.17.15	Sevengill, you and I have a similar taste in drummers. Joe Lester gets a lot of the spotlight in Intronaut but together they are the best rhythm section in metal. Dan Presland came off as kind of one-dimensional to me when I heard Portal of I, but actually seeing videos of him playing (cymbal mutes, hi hat opening during double bass, etc.) and hearing Citadel changed my mind. EDIT: Also, Travis Barker has cool showmanship. He's so energetic and there's a lot to be said for that. Other than that, I don't get why he's so popular (other than being in a popular band)
Sevengill 05.17.15	@Sgt - I totally agree about Lester and Walker being a great duo. I just hope they don't streamline their sound much more, because the explosive and adventurous tracks like Any Port and Elegy are my favorite. While Sore Sight for Eyes and Harmonomicon aren't bad, Intronaut is capable of much more.

Archelirion 05.17.15	Ben Koller for me, there's a bit in the final verse of the song 'No Heroes' which just destroys me everytime. Couldn't tell you what he was doing, but it sounds brilliant.

SgtShock 05.18.15	@Aaron: You talking about the snare roll groove he does where he hits the hi hat on the upbeat around the 3 minute mark? It's pretty sick. @Seven Yeah, Dailor's a bit tame on the new record. He said in the interviews I read he was trying to focus more on songwriting and singing and I think it shows a little in his drum playing. It also could just be him toning it down a bit as he matures as a drummer (a la sean reinert).
