Favourite Records/Albums By Genre (Hardcopy)
A slightly different (Read: Not ORIGINAL) take on the 'Favourite Genre' list. I'm going through the collection and picking out three of my favourite LPs per genre. Please, feel free to list pieces from your own collection(s) (Vinyl, Tape, CD, LaserDisc, 8Track, et cetera) as well! Remember to 'keep it in the collection' though! |
1 | | Fugazi In on the Kill Taker
Post-Hardcore. Black. I don't have children, but I'd wager that choosing a 'favourite' Fugazi record could be likened to choosing a favourite child. |
2 | | Quicksand Slip
Post-Hardcore. Opaque Red. Thick and full of angst! Thanks Walt! |
3 | | Hot Water Music Forever and Counting
Post-Hardcore. Opaque Brown marbled. I'm sure the Sput-sensus would, likely, select 'Relationship of Command' or 'Diary' over this one. Oh well! |
4 | | My Bloody Valentine Isn't Anything
Shoegaze. Black. 'Loveless' is grand and all, but I've always dug this one more. |
5 | | Ride Nowhere
Shoegaze. Black. |
6 | | Flyying Colours ROYGBIV
Shoegaze. Opaque Ruby Pink. A 'newborn', for sure. But they have this sound down to a science. |
7 | | The Beatles Rubber Soul
Pop-Rock. Black. 'Pop-Rock' may be a bland blanket term, but this was/is definitely popular and/or rock and rooll. Perhaps with a slight folky flair about it? Either way, it's great. |
8 | | The Doors The Doors
Pop-Rock. Black. |
9 | | Ben Folds Five Whatever and Ever, Amen
Pop-Rock. Black. Nail me to the wall, if you will. |
10 | | Minor Threat Minor Threat
Hardcore. Black. Hardcore 101. |
11 | | Inside Out No Spiritual Surrender
Hardcore. Trans. Red. My favourite Zack project. If only they released that full-length on Ebullition! I'd kill to have a recorded version of 'Turn and Face'! |
12 | | Government Warning No Moderation
Hardcore. Black. As much as I love the Brains'n'Biscuits, I always come back to this slab of sunshine. |
13 | | Navio Forge As We Quietly Burn A Hole Into...
Emo. Black. Sara Kirsch is/was a goddess among mortal men! This one churns my innards in the best possible way. |
14 | | Sleepytime Trio Memory Minus
Emo. This is actually Plus 6000, I'm just too lazy to add the info for it. |
15 | | Bullets In* Conceive
Featuring Dan Africa (Of Punch and Super Unison fame). Kirsch and McPheeters in a blender. Hits hard! |
16 | | From Ashes Rise Nightmares
D-Beat. Trans. Red w/Smoke. |
17 | | Artimus Pyle Fucked From Birth
D-Beat. Opaque Orange. Soo angrusty. |
18 | | Cursed I
D-Beat. Opaque Silver. Chris Colohan |
19 | | Envy All the Footprints You've Ever Left...
Screamo. Split White/Red. |
20 | | Yaphet Kotto The Killer Was in the Government Blankets
Screamo. Black. 'Driving Through Natchez' is a beautiful tune. |
21 | | Mohinder Everything
Screamo. Black. Man, this band ripped so hard. |
22 | | Dag Nasty Can I Say
Melodic-Hardcore. Black. Every incarnation of this band is good, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a preference for this particular form. |
23 | | Ignite Call On My Brothers
Melodic-Hardcore. Opaque Purple. This gent definitely has one of the best voices in hardcore. |
24 | | Strike Anywhere Chorus of One EP
Melodic-Hardcore. Opaque Purple. It was a close call between this and the Kid Dynamite split. |
25 | | At the Gates Slaughter of the Soul
Melodic Death Metal. Black/Yellow split. |
26 | | Carcass Heartwork
Melodic Death Metal. Trans. Red |
27 | | In Flames The Jester Race
Melodic Death Metal. Black. Thus concludes the beginners course on nineties melo-death. |
28 | | Jawbreaker 24 Hour Revenge Therapy
Pop-Punk. Black. Some call it 'emo'. I call it 'pop-punk'. It's great no matter how you slice it. |
29 | | Descendents Milo Goes to College
Pop-Punk. Black. What's not to love about Doc Auk and his merry men? |
30 | | Dillinger Four Midwestern Songs Of The Americas
Pop-Punk. Well colour me Org! |
31 | | Slint Spiderland
Post-Rock. Black. |
32 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
Post-Rock. Black. If you can't beat'em... |
33 | | The Appleseed Cast Illumination Ritual
Post-Rock. Bone-marbled. |
34 | | Depeche Mode Violator
Electronic-Who-Ha. Gahanerrific. Probably doesn't qualify for the 'electronic' label? I'm certainly no expert when it comes to 'bleeps and boops'. Feel free to tell me what it actually is. |
35 | | Purity Ring Shrines
Electronic-Who-Ha. Opaque Teal-ish. |
36 | | Cold Cave Cherish The Light Years
Electronic-Who-Ha. Black. I like it! Sue me in DeKalb County Municipal Court, honkey! |
37 | | Patsy Cline Patsy Cline's Greatest Hits
Folk/Country. Black. It's actually the 'Got A Lot of Rhythm In My Soul' compilation. Honkey-tonkin' Patsy eats faces for breakfast. |
38 | | Sun Kil Moon Benji
Folk/Country. Trans. Yellow. Mark Kozie has feelings. |
39 | | The Black Twig Pickers Rough Carpenters
Folk/Country. Black. My folkish collection is sorely lacking. |
40 | | Mahavishnu Orchestra Birds of Fire
Proggy. Black. Acid-jazz operating in a progressive shell? Johnny Mac and company attack like a swarm of wasps. |
41 | | King Crimson In the Court of the Crimson King
Proggy. Black. I am but a newborn. |
42 | | Into Another Seemless
Proggy. Coke Bottle Clear. |
