| Top 10 Albums Of 2015 (So Far)
Pretty self-explanatory. This is the first year I've made a serious effort to listen to many new releases, and it was tough to narrow it down to the top 10. This will certainly change by the end of the year, but this represents my feelings at this time, very loosely ranked. | 10 | | Galar De Gjenlevende
I'd never heard of this band before jamming this, absolutely awesome and atmospheric black metal. While I've enjoyed plenty of metal releases this year, this one's probably my favorite by a narrow margin. | 9 | | Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
Definitely a bit overhyped in my opinion, but still very great. I've rarely had the urge to listen to this all the way through, but it has plenty of tracks which rank among my favorites for the year. | 8 | | Nubosidad Parcial Fractal
This one's pretty much unknown, but it shouldn't be. It's basically a mixture of many genres (especially stoner rock and post-rock), with an excellent dark atmosphere. I also reviewed it, so check it out. | 7 | | God Is an Astronaut Helios/Erebus
Definitely the pleasant surprise of the year for me. I loved All Is Violent, All Is Bright, but not much since then by this band has been of interest. This, though, is an excellent and engaging post-rock album. | 6 | | Lupe Fiasco Tetsuo & Youth
It's somewhat unfortunate that TPAB's release greatly overshadowed this album. It's a remarkable return to form for Lupe Fiasco, considering his last few releases had been drastically poorer than his first two, near-classic, albums. While a bit too long, a large majority of the songs are brilliant. "Mural" is probably my song of the year, at this point. | 5 | | The Early November Imbue
My first experience with this band, and definitely a good place to start. Imbue is an immensely enjoyable listen all the way, comprised entirely of catchy and well-crafted songs. | 4 | | Blur The Magic Whip
The Magic Whip has probably grown on me more than any other album this year. Upon first listen, it was pleasant enough, but far from memorable. Now, almost every song is fantastic, at least to my ears. An excellent comeback album for Blur. | 3 | | Steve Von Till A Life Unto Itself
This one represents my first experience with Steve Von Till's solo work. It's a remarkable effort, musically very different from Neurosis, but still crafting equally desolate soundscapes. A Life Unto Itself seems to leave the listener in some sort of "Wild West" bleak wilderness, and combined with lyrical brilliance, is an amazing creation. | 2 | | mewithoutYou Pale Horses
This album has been my introduction to mewithoutYou, and I'm now checking out the rest of their discography. An excellent album all the way through, with some clear highlights, such as "Dorothy" and "Magic Lantern Days". | 1 | | The Tallest Man on Earth Dark Bird Is Home
Despite the generally mixed reviews this album received, I wholeheartedly love it. This is not particularly surprising, given all of TTMOE's releases have been amazing to me. While he certainly changed his sound with this album, it still has the same magic in my opinion. I'm not sure whether Dark Bird Is Home will still be my AOTY when the new year comes, but it will certainly be a contender. | |
