09.12.15 | "Hopefully they release a great Hulk movie in the future because "The incredible Hulk" wasn't that good either."
I liked it. but we need to see a Ruffalo stand-alone. If they do a hawkeye or black widow solo film over giving Ruffalo a hulk film im gonna be so chapped.
"yo pots as just a general rule do you always judge comic book films on how well adapted they are from the comics? because what if a movie is fantastic, but it does something that's totally new or different from the comic? just interested on what your thoughts on that woul dbe"
no, i'm perfectly fine with people taking creative liberties with the characters and stories as long as they are well done. but taking Peter Parker and turning him from a funny super smart nerd constantly whipping out one-liners into a moody emo loser pizza delivery boy or x-men taking Iceman and changing him from one of the funniest most interesting characters into a CW tween drama character for example is just fucking unforgivable. Or, another good example, the X-Men franchise taking ethnically diverse characters and white washing them really really pisses me off.
On the flip side im 100% supportive of all the ethnic changes from white to other thats been going around lately and making all the fanboys super butthurt. I think its good to see comic characters change with the times to stay relevant to the era, and better representation is important right now.
im also completely down with/open minded to the unique portrayals of the joker and harley quinn in the new DCEU and those are 2 of my favourite characters of DC
so no i don't really judge by accuracy to source material, but there is good change and bad change.

09.12.15 | @futures yeah affleck is going to be the best live action Bruce Wayne / Batman oat
and as for Man of Steel people who hate on that movie are too used to the one-and-done format of comic movies these days to understand the gravity of that film. I've been saying it since it came out but that movie is so formative to the entire DC movie universe and Supermans development as a superhero. Everyone was bitching about all the damage to Metropolis and how Superman isn't a killer but its actually like, the perfect thing. It sets up everything, it sets up this world where Superman is equally loved and hated/feared. It sets the tone for his development into a hero who refuses to kill, he can't just start out that way. It brilliantly shows how there are actually responsibilities and ethical dillemas with being a superhero, and all of that sets up Batman Superman and the Justice League movie... speaking of which, that same beacon that Zod saw and followed to earth is rumoured to have been seen by 'others' (brainiac!???).
you watch the 2 avengers movies and they fuck just as much of the city up in both of them and no one complains and no one addresses it aside from shitty one-liner jokes about it but the DC universe actually addresses the consequences of that damage. I think after we see BvS Man of Steel will be looked back on a lot more positively. Too many people are just too shallow to be able to look beyond the scope of a film and see what it actually means for the movies that follow. |
tempest--
09.12.15 | thanks for that reply man. I've never read the comics so I've never really known how/what things get changed in the films. one of the dudes i work with is into the comics as well, so it's cool to hear from people that know their shit.

tempest--
09.12.15 | same with something like transformers, they just go around destorying entire cities but "oh you saved the world ok thats fine then" like sure i guess but you still ruined the lives of thousands of people
also i dont get something with avengers... the whole idea of Hulk is that he is some brute force type thing that is basically stronger than all the other avengers, right? his contribution to the avengers is that he is super powerful and all that... but if iron man can beat him in the hulkbuster suit, what does hulk contribute to the avengers? just extra hands? why is he there? bruce is a super smart scientist so yea i get that but why need hulk? pots i need your insight here haha |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.12.15 | "i totally agree dude. never understood how the avengers was immune to that destruction point it makes no sense"
yeah i dunno dude, i consider myself a pretty big comic fan but holy fuck, the comic book fan demograph is literally one of the most shallow, negative, uninsightful and bitchy groups out there by far. its depressing tbqh, everyone is just LOOKING for shit to hate about everything.
@tempest even though i try to keep open-minded however, its undeniable that being an avid comic reader influences your perception of comic book adaptations a lot compared to casual viewers who don't read many comics. Like a lot of casual viewers LOVE the first 2 spider-man films and i can't jive with that shit at all. thats not to say their opinion is less valid tho, quite the contrary, its just different perspectives and sometimes knowing the comics can be good for having a deeper appreciation for things but it can also kind of poison the well in a sense and ruin some adaptations for you that are otherwise good.
little things man, like i think the new x-men movies (days of future past, first class) are really really good but the fact that Emma Frost doesn't have a british accent pisses me off a lot more than it really should lol.

i doubt the marvel movies will ever give you an answer to that "thats just the way it is because comics!". Marvels cinematic universe is entertaining but extremely shallow compared to the angle DC appears to be going at it from. Marvel is just an overabundance of fun one-time thrill-rides that you forget about a month later and never watch ever again.
but your logic is sound, especially since Hulk is viewed by SHIELD to be extremely dangerous. but its ok cuz when hulk fucks up a city its all good cuz hulk.
in the comics his relationship with the avengers and shield is often a hell of a lot more complex than it is in the movies, they really havent done him justice. |

09.12.15 | i havent seen a single punisher movie tbh, i've never really liked the character very much
that being said, the Ultimate (Earth universe version of Punisher has become pretty dope recently in the events of Battleworld. 09.13.15 | i think the main problem i have with both superhero movies and sci fi movies is that generally speaking both are so focused on the aesthetic aspects of the genre and the surface level appeal of those things that not many break the threshold for making anything thats that interesting or in depth. i mean theres exceptions to that of course but thats what ive generally found. same sort of applies to fantasy (or at least fantasy movies in the traditional sense like lotr type stuff) |

09.13.15 | Completely agree, I enjoy some nice cgi from time to time but when that's the main selling point for your movie what's the point? ScuroFantasma
09.13.15 | "The Shining is more of a horror than a thriller I suppose. It's one of my favourite films of all time but I also hate it in the same breath because of how badly it butchers the source material."
Yeah but i find it best to take all films based on other sources as their own thing. That said I was dissapointed as fuck when they released 'Eragon' which had crazy potential but ended up being one of the worst adaptations I've seem. Shitty movie on its own too though. |

you don't. i do. batman v superman is going to be best superhero movie ever made.
and wonder woman looks great. there wasnt enough of her in the trailer at all to say her acting looks cheesy. |
zaruyache
09.13.15 | rewatched the trailer and there're def some clips that look cheesy. I'm hoping they altered some stuff to make the clips more fittingly dramatic for the trailer, though. And I don't feel you can really say it'll def be the BEST superhero film when all we actually have to go on is Man of Steel, which was generally received as only "pretty decent". I'm hoping it'll deliver, though. |

And when WW gets thrown up against a wall or w/e and she gives that "O no u didn't" face, and that part where there's like Batman in some war outfit beating up dudes in black (wtf??). I'm sure they'll look better in context but from the trailer this could be sooooo awkward at parts. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.13.15 | cheese is subjective and compared to all other comic movies this looks the least cheesy of all time. plus everything you just noted is stupid as fuck because
a) superman is known for his overly dramatic iconic poses. obviously they are going to have a homage or two to that
b) wonderwoman is a fucking fierce amazonian warrior, that pissed off im gonna fuck you up look she gave is more indicative of her comic character than any other image of her released so far
c) the desert batsuit is taken directly from the pages of Gotham By Gaslight and is one of the most exciting things in the entire trailer for those of us that aren't complete betas like yourself. and those "dudes in black" are the soliders with the superman logo on their sleeves that you see like seven other times in the trailer.

09.13.15 | Yeah. Maybe 2001 but idk i think EWS beats it. It's kubrick's fav himself so theres that |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.13.15 | ugh dude ugh why are you so deadset on being wrong about everything of all time |
Yotimi
09.13.15 | Well you think suspiria is good and spent all day talking about lame superhero movies so i'll prob just quit talking movies with you |

09.13.15 | oh wow we got an edgy guy over here who thinks cabin in the woods is a good horror film and obligatorily hates on superhero movies because he thinks not enjoying blockbuster films makes him a hardcore elitist whitebox artfilm advocate.
the irony is you think you know anything about film yet ur knocking one of the most influential horror films ever made thats actually hilarious, i didnt think your movie taste could be even more entry level than your musical ineptitudes but thanks for proving me wrong. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.13.15 | oh shit
yo SINTERNET
speaking of Image adaptations
Chrononauts was just announced to have a film adaptation coming up |
Yotimi
09.13.15 | You know you're a lame ass piece of shit that everyone hates, right. I mean you do know that right? You spend so much time insulting people's taste in everything, act like a complete cunt anytime anyone disagrees with you, and do it all in the annoying forceful way possible. The only reason people laugh or shrug off anything you say is because they know you are omnipresent here and will berate them beyond imagination if they try to defend themselves. You're really just a pathetic person with no life that prob beats off to his posts. No there couldn't possibly be anything questionabe about your taste. Superhero movies are totally awesome and anyone that doesn't like them must be trying to be artsy. Or maybe grown men prancing around in halloween costumes doesn't do it for everyone. Peace, i had a bad day |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.13.15 | yo yotimi don't you have a couple sons to be diddling right now cool peace have a nice night old balls mc-midlife crisis

its real short and real sweet. its a pretty damn funny read and a pretty fresh take on time travel comic books. its Mark Millar. |
Rice303
09.13.15 | Respect for the difference tastes guys, personally I didn't put down a superhero movie because I can't think of one I've seen that has really blown me away yet.. I'm just not that into them. Recently watched Perfect Blue which is probably now on par with my other favorite animated movies |
Lord(e)Po)))ts

09.13.15 | agreed me too |
porcupinetheater
09.13.15 | Also, I'm late to the party as fuck, but up there someone said EWS was Kubrick's favorite, but that was made in '99 and mothafucka kicked the bucket in '99, so I'm not sure that really counts? Don't most people love their recent movie most when they first release it? |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.13.15 | thats actually a pretty valid comment ^^ |
ScuroFantasma
09.13.15 | Yeah well it's not like Kubrick or anyone is going to release something and go "Eh, it's aight, I've done better" they've gotta sell it in some form or another. Plus I'm sure a huge element of pride would be fresh just after making something. |
Yotimi
09.13.15 | True but that doesn't change the fact that he did say it, and he was always very critical of himself and a mad perfectionist. Plus the movie took a long time to make giving him plenty of time to reflect on all the details |
porcupinetheater
09.13.15 | And I mean, that's certainly fair - I'm not saying that Kubrick wasn't the type to make sure his pictures weren't up to snuff before release; I'm saying that he took a long time for all his movies (particularly post-Spartacus, an incidence of artistic integrity being taken away which, from my understanding, he wasn't too keen to repeat), so I'm still not sure Eyes Wide Shut is anomalous enough to take Kubrick's "my favorite movie o'mine" comment without a grain of salt. |
