skeames1214 09.24.15	if you ever get a chance demo some planar magnetic headphones. its a dif type of technology that basically has drivers spread out all over the headphone, as opposed to on the edges like ortho-dynamic headphones. Planars makes the bass a LOT punchier, and generally gives music a more full sound.

JWT155 09.24.15	Just a fair warning, a lot of Sennheisers Headphones are open ear, which means that a lot of audio leaks out and people in the room will hear what you are listening to. If you plan on using these in your house alone they're fantastic but essentially obsolete for public use.

JWT155 09.24.15	I believe the 558's are open ear. I would def recommend the MTH50's, I use them every day at work and they're comparable in price to the Sennheiser 558's but closed. Pretty even pair of cans too in terms of bass and treble.

Anything played with these headphones will "leak" sound so people next to you will hear audibly what you're listening to. Likewise, the listener can very easily hear whats going on around them.

The cushioning around them looks like it's meant to isolate though so my guess is they're probably closed but I can't say for sure

Skoop 09.25.15	@skeames1214 Yeah it was my first experience with open headphones (and my first experience with Grado) and it took a little while to get used to but everything from the highs to treble to bass sounds far and away better than anything else I've heard.

emester 09.25.15	I have the M50's but I have also gave the M40s a go as well. While I do personally prefer the M50s's you'd honestly be fine with 40s. Currently only have my ATH M50s and my V Moda M80s up at school with me. Really miss my Grados

emester 09.25.15	I just feel the overall clarity is slightly better and the bass does give a little punch but it honestly isn't overbearing at all. Also you have to consider this is coming from a guy who only just dove into the technicalities of headphones last year, as before that I jammed everything on Beats or Apple headphones. When it all comes down to it, the M50 are a very balanced pair of headphones that give a realistic yet enjoyable listen. M40's are just about as good imo tho

More neutral headphones sound generally a lot more versatile and I figure you can EQ them based on what you're looking for

Essence 09.25.15	that's a nice pair of phones supreme. once you hit roughly the m50x and ah900x range (in terms of broad headphone quality), improvements in quality are going to be a lot more gradual. you start to feel the diminishing return pretty hard. for instance, there's not a massive difference between my v-modas and beyers, but they serve different purposes (closed, take em places vs open, gotta be alone)
