10.09.15 | The prices are completely arbitrary, I have never seen anything go for what a price list says it is worth, many of these are more common than you think, I have 2 of these, and yes the right copy that you say and didn't spend 30 on either of them |
wham49
10.09.15 | remember prices generally are NIW, they go down dramatically upon opening, then keep going down with each handling |

10.09.15 | I understand the angles. It's still an interesting discussion point. I buy what I like to listen to, not what I hope to sell. |

10.09.15 | "they go down dramatically upon opening, then keep going down with each handling"
Although this isn't necessarily true considering covers/sleeves can become warped if you leave the shrink wrap on the record over an elapsed period of time. |
wham49
10.10.15 | well of course just because it is wrapped does not mean it is mint, no offense, just didn't want you to get your hopes too high, I've been there before |

10.10.15 | It's all good, just wanted to share cuz I care. |
wham49
10.10.15 | cool man, very interesting stuff, I have the Sublime and Nirvana, from the list, but bulk of my stuff is 70's and mid eighties metal |
someguest
10.10.15 | In Utero is a beautiful record, isn't it? Albini really shines on that press. |
wham49
10.10.15 | I do not know why the more weight you put on vinyl the more the music comes out. The jazz stuff from the 50's is even heavier than the 180, and it is so beautiful |
Frippertronics
10.10.15 | Weight doesn't necessarily equate to quality, as big labels use terms such as "180 gram" and "audiophile vinyl" and try to sucker people into paying outrageous prices for new releases and unnecessary reissues that come out by the truck load. It's more about who cut the record, where it was cut and who mastered the thing. Weight doesn't matter a bit aside from durability. |
wham49
10.10.15 | I disagree, what you are saying is completely true, however listen to an 80's mca copy of Who's next on flexidisc, then on the original mca on 180 and tell me what you think, there has to be something to it, because to me it does sound better, meaning richer, fuller, warmer, whatever those terms mean, maybe the durablity factor helps as they age, new albums maybe a different story |
Frippertronics
10.10.15 | "an 80s copy...flexidisc"
so a digitally remastered album originally recorded on analog equipment, and on lighter vinyl. The issues are obvious from that description alone.
"180 mca"
The originals were not 180, as 180 was not the standard until the 2000s. Stuff that was released before the oil shortage in the 70s were usually around 120-140 grams, not too light but rather sturdy.
As for how it sounds, it all depends on your set-up, the condition of your record, and the mastering job and from where it is sourced. |
wham49
10.10.15 | my point exactly, lighter lesser made vinyl, and yes, not 180 but a better standard weight close to 180, doesn't that prove my point, and the stereo set up is everything for everything, I rock a "72" marantz 2245 reciever, and a "79" marantz turntable, with mid "90's polk audio stacks, can light up the house |
Frippertronics
10.10.15 | quality post agreed |
wham49
10.10.15 | maybe, who the fuck are you? fourth reich |
wham49
10.10.15 | Keep spinning Fripper |
