Punk/Hardcore Essentials

These records/bands had a major impact in the Punk Rock universe.
1Bad Brains
Bad Brains

An album that put D.C. Hardcore on the map. It inspired many awesome groups. The raw energy of this record was way ahead of its time. Bad Brains have become one of the most beloved bands by not just fans of Punk music but in any genre in general. They blend a great mix of Hardcore, Reggae, Punk, Metal and Funk.
2Black Flag
Damaged

Punk was evolving, going to a more of a dark gritty style. Black Flag was one of the first bands to show there aggression on wars and political views Damaged packs a punch with incredible musicianship and has become one of the bands most well known records.
3Dead Kennedys
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables

Possibility the greatest Hardcore album of all time. Dead Kennedys are a timeless band and Fresh Fruit is consistent, pure and powerful. Tracks like California Uber Alles, Holiday in Cambodia, Kill the Poor, Lets Lynch The Drug Lord are punk rock staples.
4Converge
Jane Doe

During the 1990s. Hardcore Punk was evolving into more of a melodic sound. Converge were one of the first bands to popularize it and Jane Doe is the perfect example. A band from Massachusetts formed in 1990 by Lead Vocalist, Jacob Bannon and Guitarist, Kurt Ballou. Since there formation they have put out 8 LPS and have become one of the beloved Hardcore bands and that is big thanks to Jane Doe. The energy, raw emotion and strength is unreal
5Minor Threat
Minor Threat

Minor Threat were one of the most influential bands during there prime. An DC Hardcore band that put out timeless albums and would be remembered for generations to come. Minor Threat compilation is a greatest hits release to compel on how great these guys are,
6Sex Pistols
Never Mind the Bollocks...

You can't make a list of Hardcore essentials without adding this one. Sex Pistols were only around for 3 years, but what they did in those years is outstanding. UK didn't really see much of the intensity and aggression. Popular UK bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, etc were worldwide famous and Sex Pistols helped Punk go into the Mainstream. Bullocks was a turning point that influenced many bands.
7Misfits
Static Age

Misfits are a very interesting band. They brought the horror punk style to the mainstream. Glenn Danzing's unique presence and they have one of the most hardcore fan bases ever. Static Age was originally recorded in 1978 and released 19 years later in 1997. Static Age has a lot of excellent tracks like TV Causality, Attitude, We Are 138, Static Age and many more. Misfits have a supreme discog you don't want to miss out on.
8Bad Religion
Suffer

One of the most consistent punk bands that came out in the 1980s. Each record packs lots of intensity and soul. Suffer is one of my favorite records of all time, its extremely catchy, gritty and fun, The early 1990s were one of my favorite time frames in Punk It's definitely worth the money,
9Fugazi
The Argument

Ian Mackayle was known as the frontman of Minor Threat, he went to form Fugazi, a band that help popularized Post- Hardcore. During there 15 years, they have put out 6 LPS, 4 Eps, and 3 Comps. Fugazi had many different styles anywhere from Hardcore, Indie, Noise Rock and Art Rock. It's really tough to pick out your favorite Fugazi record but if i had to pick i would say The Argument its there final album unfortunately, it packs an emotional punch and raw aggression, they ended on the right note with The Argument. There whole discography is definitely worth checking out
10The Stooges
Fun House

One of the first truly great raw punk albums. Its crazy that this record was recorded in one setting. It was life changing and put a different view on music today. Iggy Pop's energetic presence and antics, The whole band created an influential sound that no one heard before. Fun House is a raw and natural record that is Hardcore essential you should add to your collection and it has a little bit sax and that is awesome.
