AtomicWaste 02.08.16	Nice! Had a few of those in college and they were always great. Snow days for me now are "Work from home days." Still not bad, but gone are the days of doing whatever. Props for The Astonishing - I think the cheese kills it for a lot of people, but if you can see through that it's probably the best DT in a while.

theBoneyKing 02.08.16	I got a four day weekend out of this snow in Massacusetts, no complaints. And yeah Wise Man's Fear is a great book, though not as good as Name of the Wind. Currently reading the new Brandon Sanderson book myself.
TalonsOfFire 02.08.16	I read The Name of the Wind and half of The Wise Man's Fear when they each came out, but am re-reading now in anticipation of book 3. I'm crossing my fingers for Doors and The Winds of Winter to be released this year, but I have a feeling 2017 is more likely :/
hal1ax 02.08.16	wasn't doors of stone scheduled for late 2016? it may have been pushed back though since Rothfuss has had his hands full with the TV series adaptation they've been working on.
theBoneyKing 02.08.16	It doesn't seem like Pat Rothfuss has been focusing on writing much lately so it'll probably be a while before we see book 3 unfortunately.
TalonsOfFire 02.08.16	At the end of 2014 Rothfuss stated that book 3 wouldn't be released in 2015, but now is a new year... but yeah Boney that's the feeling I got. I knew they were in talks for an adaptation, but didn't know it was decided on a TV series. If so hopefully it'll be the same level of quality as Game of Thrones.
theBoneyKing 02.08.16	Thing is it's such a different type of story than Game of Thrones. Kingkiller is so much more slowly paced (well, at least than early Song of Ice and Fire books) and based around Kvothe's personal legend that I have a feeling it wouldn't hold up terribly well as a TV show. Plus you lose the beauty of Rrhfuss's writing, which I think really helps the books be exceptional.
hal1ax 02.08.16	i feel like it could be done well. It would have to be oriented as more of a slowly paced, dramatic character study type of show.
hal1ax 02.08.16	and Rothfuss said he intends on being deeply involved in the making of the show, so I'm really hoping that it does the books justice.
TalonsOfFire 02.08.16	Kingkiller does have less need for epic fantasy tropes than GOT or LOTR does (at least in what I've read), so being on FX or AMC with a smaller budget and less freedom than they'd allow on HBO might not hurt the quality.
TalonsOfFire 02.08.16	It does center on the most exceptional character as a teenager in the story's universe attending the University... so a bigger concern might be not coming off as ripping of the Harry Potter movies lol
JWT155 02.08.16	It's been decades since my alma mater had a snow day, it could snow 10 feet and they still wouldn't cancel.
TalonsOfFire 02.08.16	I would think that at least professors who teach at colleges in snow-heavy areas of the country would take it upon themselves to cancel their classes when it snows profusely.

TalonsOfFire 02.08.16	My friend who got me into Game of Thrones and the books also thinks Rothfuss is a better writer. I'd say the Kingkiller chronicle is definitely easier to read and more digestible, but they're both so descriptive and written so beautifully that it's hard for me to choose.
hal1ax 02.08.16	they are both incredible writers, i just prefer Rothfuss' style. much more poetic.
TalonsOfFire 02.08.16	His descriptions of present day Kvothe are incredible, especially the pro/epilogues. When he gathered the firewood after telling the story of his troupe's destruction was also so poignant.

UpwardSpiral 02.09.16	Patrick Rothfuss stated on his blog in 2007 that all his books were finished, but only needed editing. Ok, that's fine you can edit as long as you want, if the third book is perfect. But then he decided just ''had to'' write a fucking novella about a character I didn't even care about just to make some money instead of finishing book 3. The release date gets pushed every year.
