02.08.16 | It's good to have you back sput. |
SCREAM!
02.08.16 | you guys get snow days in college?
what |
TalonsOfFire
02.08.16 | In Massachusetts we do, just had a massive storm and the winds are crazy. |
SCREAM!
02.08.16 | Damn. I stopped getting snow days after high school |
AtomicWaste
02.08.16 | Nice! Had a few of those in college and they were always great. Snow days for me now are "Work from home days." Still not bad, but gone are the days of doing whatever.
Props for The Astonishing - I think the cheese kills it for a lot of people, but if you can see through that it's probably the best DT in a while. |
Rolling Girl
02.08.16 | Lucky bastard, we had snow for about 5 minutes. |
hal1ax
02.08.16 | fuck, wise man's fear is so good. so antsy for book 3.
and ya it's like 90 degrees right now in LA kill me plx |
anarchistfish
02.08.16 | i live in mountains and i think we've had one day of snow this winter |
theBoneyKing
02.08.16 | I got a four day weekend out of this snow in Massacusetts, no complaints.
And yeah Wise Man's Fear is a great book, though not as good as Name of the Wind. Currently reading the new Brandon Sanderson book myself. |
TalonsOfFire
02.08.16 | I read The Name of the Wind and half of The Wise Man's Fear when they each came out, but am re-reading now in anticipation of book 3. I'm crossing my fingers for Doors and The Winds of Winter to be released this year, but I have a feeling 2017 is more likely :/ |
hal1ax
02.08.16 | wasn't doors of stone scheduled for late 2016? it may have been pushed back though since Rothfuss has had his hands full with the TV series adaptation they've been working on. |
theBoneyKing
02.08.16 | It doesn't seem like Pat Rothfuss has been focusing on writing much lately so it'll probably be a while before we see book 3 unfortunately. |
TalonsOfFire
02.08.16 | At the end of 2014 Rothfuss stated that book 3 wouldn't be released in 2015, but now is a new year... but yeah Boney that's the feeling I got. I knew they were in talks for an adaptation, but didn't know it was decided on a TV series. If so hopefully it'll be the same level of quality as Game of Thrones. |
theBoneyKing
02.08.16 | Thing is it's such a different type of story than Game of Thrones. Kingkiller is so much more slowly paced (well, at least than early Song of Ice and Fire books) and based around Kvothe's personal legend that I have a feeling it wouldn't hold up terribly well as a TV show. Plus you lose the beauty of Rrhfuss's writing, which I think really helps the books be exceptional. |
hal1ax
02.08.16 | i feel like it could be done well. It would have to be oriented as more of a slowly paced, dramatic character study type of show. |
hal1ax
02.08.16 | and Rothfuss said he intends on being deeply involved in the making of the show, so I'm really hoping that it does the books justice. |
TalonsOfFire
02.08.16 | Kingkiller does have less need for epic fantasy tropes than GOT or LOTR does (at least in what I've read), so being on FX or AMC with a smaller budget and less freedom than they'd allow on HBO might not hurt the quality. |
TalonsOfFire
02.08.16 | It does center on the most exceptional character as a teenager in the story's universe attending the University... so a bigger concern might be not coming off as ripping of the Harry Potter movies lol |
JWT155
02.08.16 | It's been decades since my alma mater had a snow day, it could snow 10 feet and they still wouldn't cancel. |
TalonsOfFire
02.08.16 | I would think that at least professors who teach at colleges in snow-heavy areas of the country would take it upon themselves to cancel their classes when it snows profusely. |
Gameofmetal
02.08.16 | been meaning to try the kingkiller books, reading a few other things atm |
ashcrash9
02.08.16 | also in Mass, also having my first college snow day
pretty good so far |
Tunaboy45
02.08.16 | Have fun, I'm in the process of reading Full Dark No Stars. |
hal1ax
02.08.16 | u will love it, game |
PappyMason
02.08.16 | Snow days for me now are "Work from home days." [2]
Totally man, they're the best. Jams all day, good food! Awesome.
I'm looking forward to putting more in after I finish sorting out this event next week. |
TalonsOfFire
02.08.16 | You'd love them Game, I've heard they're considered among the best modern fantasy along with Song of Ice and Fire |
Tunaboy45
02.08.16 | Has anyone here read Metro 2033? I'm considering reading it soon but I want to hear from other people who have read it. |
zakalwe
02.08.16 | This list and the pages of 'kingkiller' are superb for kindling. |
Gameofmetal
02.08.16 | "You'd love them Game, I've heard they're considered among the best modern fantasy along with Song of Ice and Fire"
martin himself endorsed them so i imagine i will |
TalonsOfFire
02.08.16 | Ursula Le Guin and Stephen King I think also endorsed it. And Metro is a fun game, but I'm not familiar with the source material. |
hal1ax
02.08.16 | Rothfuss is a better writer than Martin, imo |
Gameofmetal
02.08.16 | doubtful but we'll see |
hal1ax
02.08.16 | lol. |
TalonsOfFire
02.08.16 | My friend who got me into Game of Thrones and the books also thinks Rothfuss is a better writer. I'd say the Kingkiller chronicle is definitely easier to read and more digestible, but they're both so descriptive and written so beautifully that it's hard for me to choose. |
hal1ax
02.08.16 | they are both incredible writers, i just prefer Rothfuss' style. much more poetic. |
TalonsOfFire
02.08.16 | His descriptions of present day Kvothe are incredible, especially the pro/epilogues. When he gathered the firewood after telling the story of his troupe's destruction was also so poignant. |
Sowing
02.09.16 | 2, 6, and 7 have been huge on my playlists lately |
TalonsOfFire
02.09.16 | 2 is my favorite Deftones so far, with the following two close behind. |
DoctorDoom
02.09.16 | I miss having snow dad. Cherish them, friend. |

02.09.16 | I certainly am, my morning class today was also cancelled haha |

02.09.16 | I should've chosen to work remotely today |
smaugman
02.09.16 | im just sitting here watching the snow melt away in norway gg |
TalonsOfFire
02.09.16 | You should use that as inspiration to write a Norweigan bm album |
TalonsOfFire
02.09.16 | Just added 11, great new bm by the guys from Saor and Falloch. |
DoctorDoom
02.09.16 | If Game recommended it I'll have to check it. |
anarchistfish
02.09.16 | I've had the Dune trilogy since august, still haven't read it |
UpwardSpiral
02.09.16 | Patrick Rothfuss stated on his blog in 2007 that all his books were finished, but only needed editing. Ok, that's fine you can edit as long as you want, if the third book is perfect. But then he decided just ''had to'' write a fucking novella about a character I didn't even care about just to make some money instead of finishing book 3. The release date gets pushed every year. |
UpwardSpiral
02.09.16 | Gentlemen Bastard is also really awesome, 3/7 books are out atm. Especially the first two book are great. I haven't read in ages, used to read so much. |
Snake.
02.09.16 | snowfall has to be like at least 20 inches before my school could even consider cancelling classes |
ChoccyPhilly
02.09.16 | Check the new GoGo penguin album :] |
Gameofmetal
02.09.16 | glad you're digging fuath |
TalonsOfFire
02.09.16 | I doubt Rothfuss really finished the books nearly ten years ago, unless he's purposefully waiting to release the third to keep building buzz about it.
I will Choccy, just for that band name lol |
ChoccyPhilly
02.10.16 | It put me off too, like a lot but they dont sound anything like their name and their stuff is genuinely incredible too. Worth a shot! |
TalonsOfFire
02.10.16 | Ooh a new jazz fusion band, very interesting thanks for the rec Choccy bro |
