| Bands I've Seen Live
Casual insomnia list. It would be a lot bigger but when I was living in london, I was too young/too poor and when I finally got some pocket money and freedom, I end up in the countryside, unable to travel to many gigs and/or refuse to go alone. But anyway, here's what I've managed in 19 years. | 1 | | Porcupine Tree Fear of a Blank Planet
For the Fear of a Blank Planet tour in Cambridge. I remember just complaining to my dad about standing up for so long. I was very young and was not able to appreciate this as I should have. | 2 | | Elliot Minor Elliot Minor
I've either seen them twice or three times. Was very into this band back in the day and it was good but I pretty much went alone (sister ditched me/wasnt able to be near me) so as a lonely, small 12 year old, i didn't enjoy it. Did accidentally punch some girl in the face though. | 3 | | Alter Bridge Blackbird
For the ABC tour. Front row, Hammersmith Apollo, not bad eh? Nope, still too young. All I could do was kind of nod my head to the music and pretend to be less tired than I actually was. Myles Kennedy actually pointed at my and jocularly said 'no yawning!'. First experience being kicked in the head by a crowd surfer. | 4 | | Octavia Sperati Grace Submerged
Well, at least I think it was these guys. It was just in a bar that my dad dragged me too and I have no memory of this gig. | 5 | | Nils Frahm Spaces
Fast forward to 2014, my taste has developed a lot more and so have I so I proceed to drag my then girlfriend to this gig, for which she's lost for words due to a lack of interest and understanding whereas I am genuinely lost for words because it was fucking amazing. Probably the best gig I've ever been to so far and the man is a total genius and watching him perform was mesmerising, especially when you could feel the electronic side of his music a lot more. Bit annoyed at myself that I was getting tired during Toilet Brushes because I spent all day hyping myself up for that song. | 6 | | Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells
Tubular Bells for two. Decent gig. Cheap. Full of old people. Was a fun date. | 7 | | Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster Collapse
Damnation festival 2015 opening act. Pretty good, crowd were pretty still but as far as a warm up for things to come for the rest of the day, I was pleased. | 8 | | Wiegedood De Doden Hebben Het Goed
Was ok live as the mixing was really off and the guys vocals were 10 times louder than anything else. They're better on recording. | 9 | | Voices (UK) London
Damnit they were so fucking loud it was unbearable to listen to so me and a friend just left half way through the set because I was just stalling for time for the next act anyway. | 10 | | Oathbreaker Eros|Anteros
Pretty good and had a lot of fun at this gig but they basically sounded like how they sounded on the album and didn't add any flare to the show but still great. | 11 | | The Ocean Pelagial
Definitely the biggest and most pleasant surprise of the evening at Damnation. Opened up with Rhyacian and I can't believe how much better it was live than it is on the album. The mixing was perfect and everything complemented one another and their high energy performance made me really upset to leave 2/3rds of the way in but I had to because the next act sere the only reason I paid 30 quid for Damnation tickets in the first place. | 12 | | Altar of Plagues Teethed Glory and Injury
Their last ever gig, no way I could miss it and no way was I not gonna be front row, especially when I only manage 5'7. Amazing show, definitely my favourite of the night and just seeing JK mesh out on his guitar during Mills was eye opening. Also, hugely impressed by the wall of noise they were able to make with just 3 people. Shame they didn't play Remedy and a Fever but my gosh was God Alone absolute perfection. They were worth the 30 quid alone. | 13 | | Little Simz A Curious Tale Of Trials + Persons
Went to this gig alone because Mad. was indecisive about going and it ended up being filled with pasty white boys and it was only 8 quid so I thought why not. Big mistake. It was one of those gigs where getting into the dance pit was part of the experience and me sitting on the side watching quietly just made me question life. For the encore she demanded all the people on the side get to the centre to rave their arse off for the last song. Wasn't bothered, so i left for some chicken and chips. | 14 | | GoGo Penguin Man Made Object
Most recent gig and really impressed by them. Incredible live and hearing their setup, with the double bass being the main instrument in control led to me appreciating their studio albums a lot more. The crowd loved it. I loved it. Mad. loved it, so all round fantastic gig. | 15 | | Submotion Orchestra Finest Hour
Next one in mid April. I swear though, the music scene in yorkshire is fucking shit. The amount of bands that do a uk tour and casually miss out yorkshire is infuriating. As much as I would like to see Gorguts in Manchester of Oneohtrix in London, my wallet can't but hey, gotta make do. Now just waiting on that juicy student loan to come in so I can buy tickets for this. | |

03.31.16 | Only 15? I'm such a noob.
What do you think? Do you love it? Do you hate it? What should I see next? Post in the comments below and like and subscribe :] | elcrawfodor
03.31.16 | Also 19 and I've only been to 4 legitimate concerts, so you've definitely got me beat. I'm at school in a city that's big on indie folk, so finding shows that interest me can be a bitch. | ChoccyPhilly
03.31.16 | who have you seen? | ZippaThaRippa
03.31.16 | Pretty rad that you got to see Altar of Plagues. Did they play older material or was it more Teethed Glory | Slut
03.31.16 | i've only seen like 2 bands so you're doing better than me | ChoccyPhilly
03.31.16 | Altar of Plagues' setlist (they only have 45 mins):
Mills
God Alone
[feedback problems/5 minute drone track]
Neptune is Dead
Twelve Was Ruin
Scald scar of Water
Earth as a Womb.

03.31.16 | I've seen:
ZoSo (Zeppelin cover band)
Rush
of Montreal
Craig Finn/Titus Andronicus.

03.31.16 | 6 he'll ya | sonictheplumber
03.31.16 | I've been to 30 somethin shows and probably seen hmm 65 bands or some shit cause most shows got like 2-4 fuckers playin | porcupinetheater
03.31.16 | Just caught Acid Mothers Temple last night, honestly one of the best shows I've been to. Kawabata was just wailing on his guitar with a violin bow like a madman and then hung it from the ceiling and started freehand beating the strings by the end.
Dillinger are always fucking insane, catch 'em whenever they come around.
First time seeing William Fitzsimmons was the most intimate live experience I've had, first couple tracks he walked past the microphone, didn't plug in his acoustic, and played completely without amplification with his toes hanging off the edge of the stage. Could've heard a pin drop in the audience, everyone was almost holding their breath.
Pain of Salvation was really cool, Dan left the stage at one point and everyone else went in playing improv funk/jazz and he came into the audience and started bopping.
Agalloch was a great show, way better at working a crowd than I expected, twice as much for getting the longest audience clap-along I've ever seen when they whipped out Kneel to the Cross.
At the most recent Devin Townsend Project this way, went crowdsurfing during one of the last tracks, and every time I wound up near the front, someone would redirect me back toward the pit again, and on and on. Stayed up there for near half the song until somebody dropped me right back into the circle pit that opened up midsong and jumped right back into that frenzy.
Steven Wilson live is always really cool, some of it for the for the music, some for the audio-visual show he puts on, some for the fact I still always go to those with my Dad, have a lot of wonderful nostalgia attached.
Got front and center when the Norwegian Shining opened for the opener of the opener, Jørgen walked right in front of me when he busted out the extended Fisheye sax solo and wailed it in my face the entire time, felt like when you have those "assert dominance" staring contests with a dog, where I was the dog and I definitely lost.
Some of the better ones | tempest--
03.31.16 | "Mad. was indecisive about fitting in with the crowd"
so Mad. is a little bitchboy then huh | furyroad97
03.31.16 | Only bands I've seen outside the hip hop circuit are probably Motley Crüe & Alice Cooper (if he counts) last year, and I'm gonna go see Iron Maiden in about a month. Christ, I got a long way to go if I wanna catch up. | cowboydan89
03.31.16 | This is the whitest list ever, but (in order):
Vampire Weekend
Arctic Monkeys
Matt & Kim
Cloud Nothings
Sebadoh
Local H
Craig Finn/Titus Andronicus
| ChoccyPhilly
03.31.16 | surprised some of you have been to less than me, i would have assumed most people here would easily surpass 20 | sonictheplumber
03.31.16 | well avg user age is 16 or so, when i was on sputnik all the time i'd been to like 10 shows and made a list for each one cause i couldnt contain the excitement of leaving my room | ChoccyPhilly
03.31.16 | 'made a list for each one cause i couldnt contain the excitement of leaving my room'
I still feel like doing this although it's not because I've left my room | sonictheplumber
03.31.16 | well certain bands i will go crazy for, but like if its some shit im just going to to kill time its like eh | ChoccyPhilly
03.31.16 | yeah that's how I kind of feel about Submotion Orchestra. They're alright but i think I'm going because it's something to do and plus, the singer is hot as fuck |
