| All the Pretty Horses (alt. country recs)
Looking for more stuff in the alt. country/outlaw country/americana vein.
Doesn't have to be undiluted country/folk/blues though, hence some of the selections. More so a general American South and West thing, and the different modes within those. Southeastern murk, southern gothic, Texas roadhouse, remote trailer in the desert, flavors of Mexican music, whatever. Lonesome, booze soaked, redemptive.
Inb4 any sludge. | 1 | | Townes Van Zandt Live at the Old Quarter, Houston, Texas
"Pancho & Lefty" is an all timer. | 2 | | Billy Joe Shaver Live at Billy Bob's Texas
Ditto for "Live Forever." Discovered this guy through a Norm MacDonald tip. | 3 | | Lucero Lucero
Lucero's "Kiss the Bottle" cover kills the Jawbreaker original. | 4 | | Jason Isbell Southeastern | 5 | | Johnny Cash American IV: The Man Comes Around | 6 | | Bonnie 'Prince' Billy I See a Darkness | 7 | | Natalie Prass Natalie Prass | 8 | | John Moreland In The Throes | 9 | | Lucinda Williams Car Wheels On A Gravel Road | 10 | | Night Moves Colored Emotions | 11 | | Richmond Fontaine You Can't Go Back if There's Nothing to Go Back To | 12 | | Phosphorescent Muchacho | 13 | | Saintseneca Last | 14 | | This Will Destroy You This Will Destroy You | 15 | | Comadre Comadre

04.11.16 | Deer Tick - The Black Dirt Sessions | theBoneyKing
04.11.16 | Well you've got some classics already (4, 9, 12), but I'd recommend:
Drive-By Truckers - Decoration Day
Neko Case - Blacklisted
Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker
Sturgill Simpson - Metamodern Sounds In Country Music
Wilco - Being There
James McMurtry - Complicated Game
Steve Earle - El Corazon
Uncle Tupelo - No Depression
This list is also a gold mine:

04.11.16 | @theBoneyKing Neko Case, Drive-By Truckers, Uncle Tupelo, Steve Earle, and Wilco all fall into that category of artists I know, but never really explored. Didn't know where to start with their discographies. Same goes for Son Volt, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr., David Allen Coe, and Merle. Ryan Adams I never bothered with because I'm put off by a forty year old man dressing so twee. Heartbreaker is universally lauded though, so I guess I have to listen.
Appreciate the recs so far guys. | LotusFlower
04.11.16 | sturgill simpson's new record is a jam x45 | furyroad97
04.11.16 | Check out Sturgill Simpson's last album leading up to the new one. If you're a fan of the psychedelic side of country, you're gonna love it. | Stereochrome1
04.15.16 | What a shame it is that real country music is reduced to being called Alt-Country | theBoneyKing
04.15.16 | Yeah that is a shame, both are great but modern pop country has given the general country moniker a bad name. |
