05.06.16 | servers are shit, will update list when they aren't
I'll also add some snarkier albums.
Also, I get that maybe variance troll is not in the spirit of what a variance troll is (maybe it would have been better to do percent of all ratings that are a 1 or 5, or that are just one value) but it takes my computer like 10 hours to process this all, so fuck it. |
ArsMoriendi
05.06.16 | Do me too also here's some users uh to do as well...
Titan
Angelboros (writes a soundoff for almost every album he's heard)
discovolante (I think has the record for most albums rated) |
macman76
05.06.16 | most in my dataset is this user: jmh886 with 1960 ratings (268 more than anyone else)
most in a day: omegaswitch33 with 545 ratings (note that this is not all his/her ratings, just the ones in the albums I scraped, also 152 more ratings than anyone else) |
macman76
05.06.16 | only 0.46 % of users had a negative correlation to the average rating |
Nazzadan
05.06.16 | I'd like to see what kind of troll I am |

05.06.16 | Get a job! |
ArsMoriendi
05.06.16 | "most in my dataset is this user: jmh886 with 1960 ratings"
discovolante has 11,310 ratings lol |
macman76
05.06.16 | @LPFTW
average for correlation is .616... explaining a correlation still baffles academics (even if its mathematically simple). Your are below average in how close your ratings follow the average rating of the albums you rate. |
macman76
05.06.16 | ""most in my dataset is this user: jmh886 with 1960 ratings"
discovolante has 11,310 ratings lol"
only having 460 of his/her ratings means he/she must rate a lot of underground/unreviewed stuff |
Calc
05.07.16 | so high Controll means you're a hipster douche
and a high InTroll mean you need to start forming your own opinions
is this 100% accurate with no room for argument? |
macman76
05.07.16 | @sonic
when I make lists that thrash this hard with this much MOP, the checks cash themselves |
macman76
05.07.16 | "so high Controll means you're a hipster douche
and a high InTroll mean you need to start forming your own opinions
is this 100% accurate with no room for argument?"
mix in a dash of the fact that you rate a lot of albums and that you do it in a short time frame and pretty much yeah, that's what the score reflects. |
ScuroFantasma
05.07.16 | Nice try, mods |
Snake.
05.07.16 | a lot of ratings on my millstone account are bullshit so |
macman76
05.07.16 | well, some albums don't have a staff review probably because they are old or otherwise highly reviewed (i.e. Master of Puppets, Nevermind) |
macman76
05.07.16 | @snake... so my system worked? |
ScuroFantasma
05.07.16 | "do me next
*spreads cheeks*"
Oh I'm sorry Mr. Chappelle right this way...why didn't you just spread your butt cheeks in the beginning? |
Trundle
05.07.16 | your lists are always interesting, good sir |
Snake.
05.07.16 | @macman sort of
basically the beginning of my time here on sputnik came with a lot of insecurities and i faked a lot of ratings at that time. like i've never listened to in the court of crimson king, dark side of the moon, or blackwater park in whole before but i just 5'd them because i just wanted to be accepted |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.07.16 | you need to stop |

Ovrot
05.07.16 | stat me bro |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.07.16 | "@pots
is this an intervention?"
i wish i had the drive to do something clever like calculate a bunch of percents and deviations and other nonsense showing how much of an intervention it is but i cant even |
macman76
05.07.16 | @pots
you could make a list of 100 albums I would never have the time or interest to listen to instead |
Ovrot
05.07.16 | yeah pots
jam new vektor instead |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.07.16 | "you could make a list of 100 albums I would never have the time or interest to listen to instead"
considering the content of your lists im 156% positive you have enough time on your hands to do pretty much anything from watching paint dry to observing grass grow. and yeah im sure your extreme autism prevents you from having the patience to be interested in listening to new music. |
Ovrot
05.07.16 | that 0.05 rating per day
i'm so good |
Asdfp277
05.07.16 | nice statistical banter |
macman76
05.07.16 | I'm not autistic, this is all done with code that automates the process. What do you have against autistic anyway, seems like a pretty lame (pun) put down. |
Ovrot
05.07.16 | don't mind potsy
he's just grumpy today |
Trundle
05.07.16 | i wouldn't mind seeing my stats, if you have the time |
Asdfp277
05.07.16 | do one... for youself! |
Asdfp277
05.07.16 | nevermind |
macman76
05.07.16 | Robbit is too new for when I scraped this |
Trundle
05.07.16 | just curious, how exactly do you acquire your data?
Did someone in the Staff give you figures to work with for your sample size?
did you personally find every staff/contrib etc reviewed album and disregard the overlap of reviewed albums?
or do you have some stats software that makes this stuff easier? |
macman76
05.07.16 | XML package in r (the programming language) has code that makes getting data from a webpage easy. I wrote code that looped across all staff/contrib/emeritus review pages and scraped the soundoff pages of each album. I later disregarded duplicate album reviews (btw, the album with most staff reviews is http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/59346/Dance-Gavin-Dance-Acceptance-Speech/). |
Trundle
05.07.16 | interdasting. I know some of those words |
macman76
05.07.16 | I have seen people in the forums ask for data or an api, but getting all of this data is a lot simpler and less arduous than you can imagine |
Keyblade
05.07.16 | how does this work, what do controll etc mean. also do me |
macman76
05.07.16 | conTroll = do your ratings deviate from the average ratings, InlTroll = do you follow the crowds a lot, VarTroll = do you have widely varying ratings or very little variability in your ratings... the percent is the percentile you fall into relative to all other users |
Keyblade
05.07.16 | ah, got it. what's the verdict on me |
macman76
05.07.16 | you're on the list |
Keyblade
05.07.16 | oh snap, so im a conTroll nice |
Pangea
05.07.16 | Do me |
EasterInTheBatcave
05.07.16 | I'm curious, please do me. Nice work btw |
Keyblade
05.07.16 | what does high/low variability mean btw |
Pangea
05.07.16 | Cool |
theBoneyKing
05.07.16 | Do me please, I expect to see a high InlTroll rating tbh. |
macman76
05.07.16 | high variability: big range in your ratings, i.e. you use a lot of 1s 1.5s and 4.5s and 5s
low variabilty: most your ratings are close your mean, i.e. you give all 4s |
Keyblade
05.07.16 | well that can't be true cuz i only have 4 ratings below a 3 lol, but i have a 90+ variability. i know it's relative to other users, but i think im among the lowest as almost all of my ratings are 5-4 |
macman76
05.07.16 | your variability is below the average, I scaled it so that having a high or low variability is equally trolly |
Keyblade
05.07.16 | ah true, makes sense then |
Flugmorph
05.28.16 | to much math |
2InchDethWish
05.29.16 | Apply math with my ratings mac, and put a jam for djentelmen like me :P |
Tunaboy45
05.29.16 | these lists though, top stuff |
macman76
05.29.16 | do you have an alt? your new account came on after I scraped the data. My lack of updating of the dataset is straight derp, and not djent. |
Trundle
05.30.16 | Forgive me, i'm still confused, what does "rating per album:" denote? |
macman76
05.30.16 | Average number of ratings per album a user rated. It's high if you rate mainstream stuff, low if it's obscure stuff |
Trundle
05.30.16 | ^ thanks for the clarification, that helps a lot haha |
Kompys2000
10.04.16 | I know this is an oldish list but do me please? |
macman76
10.04.16 | your numbers are with a cutoff of 26 ratings (you only had 26 ratings among the albums of this dataset and all ratings are from mid-March) instead of the 50 I was employing before |
Asdfp277
10.04.16 | slightly contrarian troll smh |
brainmelter
10.04.16 | do meeeee |
emester
10.04.16 | Throw my ass on here please?

wham49
10.04.16 | im not 15, I like it but it is a little juvenile, there are 40 better Sabbath songs |
WatchItExplode
10.04.16 | So I just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out that Academy is a ratings troll? I'm pissed. |
wham49
10.04.16 | it seems as though the true ratings "Trolls", are the ones with 90 something percent in either contrarian or variance category |
Lubricant
10.04.16 | Interesting stuff, started laughing a bit more than I should have when I saw Academy. |
