09.03.16 | I'm a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan but there are a couple of songs that I feel Billy's vocals aren't up to par. |

09.03.16 | Lord Worm in early Cryptopsy was perfect for the chaos of the music IMO. |

09.03.16 | I thought about Mustaine but his vocals suit his best albums. The only time I feel them grating is on the newer or generally worse material. |

09.03.16 | in regards to 4, their earlier albums fluxion-precambrian have much much much better harsh vocals. |
Maco097
09.03.16 | Not that I hate his vocals, but it's important to mention Dead, one of the most overrated aspects ever from Mayhem. Most people masturbate on him only cuz he was nuts. Just like Nattramn |
Shemson
09.03.16 | James LaBrie is technically solid but there's nothing special compared to the rest of the band who were all outstanding in their fields |

09.03.16 | "eminem

I prefer his post-relapse voice which I consider his real one, but I don't mind his old one. |
ZippaThaRippa
09.03.16 | You're a little too right about The Ocean. Their harsh vocals have always been extremely underwhelming. Way to be a bummer man. Bumming me out. |
AlexKzillion
09.03.16 | "i like some of his beats"
Eminem's albums are usually plagued with either severely average or just horrible beats tbh. |
ZippaThaRippa
09.03.16 | Eminem is infamous for his lacklustre beats. It's the first thing any streetwise hip-hopper will tell you. |

09.03.16 | Eminem is better for his flow. |

09.03.16 | I'm sorry Rippa, I'm gonna really bum you out and mention how bad a lot of the lyrics are too.
My favourite song is Stenian: Mount Sorrow but the lyrics make me laugh every time. Incredible music though. |
ZippaThaRippa
09.03.16 | They should have written about actual geologic shit |
Thalassic
09.03.16 | LaBrie's good on Metropolis and I like Rossetti on Pelagial. I agree with you on DFD though.
"Inquisition, Cryptopsy with Lord Worm, Death, etc."
As the French would say: faux
"Vektor"
As the French would say: encore faux |
Shemson
09.03.16 | Yeah the concept was cool with how they named the tracks.
However after a hypnotic opening to that particular track the lyrics of 'at this time of the year the skies are mostly grey and overcast' completely ruin the vibe. |
ZippaThaRippa
09.03.16 | what does that mean I don't speak French |
Shemson
09.03.16 | Untrue I believe |
Rik VII
09.03.16 | there's an instrumental version of Pelagial that's actually really cool, but you can hear there's something missing. like, in the mix there's still room for vocals, they've just been cut out without any more adjustments. |
Shemson
09.03.16 | Yeah man, I always choose the version with the vocals to be honest, I just wish they were a bit better I guess. |
Thalassic
09.03.16 | "what does that mean I don't speak French"
"faux" means "false"
"encore" means "again"
|
miketunneyiscool123
09.03.16 | vektor although i dont necessarily love their music either |
Thalassic
09.03.16 | Vektor's vox are great imo. Basically they're Schmier's yells taken to the extreme. |
DoofusWainwright
09.03.16 | Vocals are usually a deal breaker for me.
Anthrax sound ok musically but I don't like the vocals. Possibly Iron Maiden but I've not listened to much...cos I can't get past the vocals. |
Ocean of Noise
09.03.16 | Doofus have you checked Di'Anno era Maiden? |
Shemson
09.03.16 | Yeah, too much Bruce Dickinson is difficult to deal with but my dads been solidly jamming that stuff since I was born so I had no choice but to hear it! |
miketunneyiscool123
09.03.16 | @thalassic thats the part im not too crazy about TSoP was bearable enough with the higher pitch
@shemson since when is there a thing as "too much bruce?" jk but yeah, paul's vocals were great too |
Snowdog808
09.03.16 | Some technical metalcore I like has vocals I don't care for much, but it doesn't diminish how I see the quality of the music too much. |
Rolling Girl
09.03.16 | It's funny because I started thinking of a list like this after listening to Dark Tranquility. It fits 2 almost perfectly. |
miketunneyiscool123
09.03.16 | I think vocals will make or break depending on the music and the musicians themselves. It seems to have a different effect per genre. I can tolerate more extreme music with shit vocals as long as the backing musicians and the songs do their job well enough (Vektor, Vio-lence), and then other times, the vocals outweigh everything else (Halestorm). |
BenThatsMyJamin
09.03.16 | "Possibly Iron Maiden but I've not listened to much...cos I can't get past the vocals."
Tha fuck? |
miketunneyiscool123
09.03.16 | Well, he doesn't like Anthrax vox so that speaks for itself unfortunately. |
Thalassic
09.03.16 | @miketunney: yeah, I understand why some wouldn't like Vektor's vox. I think they really add to Vektor's sound though.
I never minded Chuck's vox on TSoP either.
Same case with Vio-Lence's vox. Many dislike them, but I think they kick ass. Dude sounds like a trigger-happy tweaker |
miketunneyiscool123
09.03.16 | @Thalassicvox on TSoP are probably my limit in terms of non-melodic screech and luckily do fit the music. They definitely butchered that "Painkiller" cover though. I stop the album before it every time.
I like Vio-lence's vox the way I like Paul Baloff's vox on Exodus; they're awful on paper, but they fit the music like a glove and actually enhance their intense nature. |
Rik VII
09.03.16 | don't like the vocal performance on Collapse. especially on that part where the screams back the clean vocals. the screams are painfully nasal. it's okay for the rest of the album though, since the vocals are not the main focus of my attention when I listen to Vektor anyway. |
Thalassic
09.03.16 | @miketunney: yeah that "Painkiller" cover is awful. I always pretend it doesn't exist on the album as well |
AlexKzillion
09.03.16 | "don't like the vocal performance on Collapse. especially on that part where the screams back the clean vocals. the screams are painfully nasal."
That's like my favorite moment of my favorite track on that album smh |
Maco097
09.03.16 | Vio-lence vocals are great and unique |
miketunneyiscool123
09.03.16 | @Maco they surely fit the band's sound and pretty much anything of that style. |
Rik VII
09.03.16 | "That's like my favorite moment of my favorite track on that album smh"
