BallsDeep
10.18.16 | Swallow the sun - Morning never came (doom infused with melodeath)
Sylosis (thrash + melodeath)
Be'lakor - straight melodeath but great shit |
pjquinones747
10.18.16 | Sylosis is one of my favorite newer bands I've gotten into. I am vaguely familiar with Swallow the Sun and still gotta get into Be'lakor. I'll bump both on my checklist.
Two comments in and it's already starting to look like the melodeath spectrum is broader than I've understood it to be. |
DarkSideOfLucca
10.18.16 | Fuck yeah, this is such a great start man but be sure to get some Kalmah in there m/ |
BallsDeep
10.18.16 | Sylosis are incredible man, but if anyone sees this conversation we'll be ostracized and possibly banned so keep your love for them on the dl |
Nazzadan
10.18.16 | Children of Bodom's first 3
Wintersun - s/t
Norther - Mirror of Madness
Kalmah's entire discography
Hypocrisy's entire discography
The Absence - Riders of the Plague
Intestine Baalism's entire discography
Be'Lakor's entire discography
Edge of Sanity - Crimson
Carcass - Heartwork |
DarkSideOfLucca
10.18.16 | Nazzadan, killing it today. Yeah, listen to that list. The only thing I haven't heard from that is Intestine Baaslim, everything else fucking rules though |
BallsDeep
10.18.16 | also
Blut Aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta I + II (melodic black metal which you might dig) |
pjquinones747
10.18.16 | That's Nazz and Balls! I'll check out Kalmah too, DarkSide.
Sidenote: I have no fear expressing my love for Sylosis. They epitomize my favorite genre to a tee. |
InFlamesWeThrash666
10.18.16 | Garden Of Shadows - Oracle Moon
Ensiferum - Ensiferum (folk/melodeath) |
pjquinones747
10.18.16 | Ensirferum is dope. I'm slowly getting more into folk metal too. |
Alastor
10.18.16 | Edge of Sanity - Purgatory Afterglow/Crimson
Amon Amarth - Versus the World
A Canarous Quintet - Silence of the World Beyond

Hoth - Oathbreaker, if you want some folk infused melodeath. |

pjquinones747
10.18.16 | Great band |
Keyblade
10.18.16 | dimension zero - penetrations from fhe lost world
is an overlooked gem. has some of the best solos in the genre thanks to the supremely underrated Fredrik Johansson aka the December Flowers solo dude |
pjquinones747
10.18.16 | Oh nice! Added to my list. |
porcupinetheater
10.18.16 | Hacksaw to the Throat - Wastelands
Garden of Shadows - Oracle Moon
Both are melodeath, but written in such a way that the tracks are given room to unfold and envelop you. Brilliant stuff.
Not exactly Gothenburg style, as such, but there are influences in there. |
pjquinones747
10.18.16 | I'm intrigued by your description. Added to the list! |

10.19.16 | Avatar |
bgillesp
10.19.16 | 1-4 are all classics but Insomnium is Finnish not Gotenborg. Avatar's first 2 albums are melodeath, but I've only heard Schlacht and it's pretty good. Their others are less melodeath influenced but still worth checking. |
bgillesp
10.19.16 | Also Kalmah [2] |
BrandNewEyes
10.19.16 | list makes me want to hang myself |
pjquinones747
10.19.16 | Because you don't like melodeath or you think these melodeath bands are bad? I need recs! |
TheSpirit
10.19.16 | The latest Horrendous is borderline melodeath |

10.19.16 | check Eucharist you fuk |
Keyblade
10.19.16 | ^ |
worthlessscab
10.19.16 | There are exactly 5 melodeath albums that are not complete queef:
At the Gates - The Red in the Sky Is Ours
Cenotaph - Riding Our Black Oceans
Edge of Sanity - Crimson
Crystal Age - Far Beyond Divine Horizons
Intestine Baalism - An Anatomy of the Beast |
Mordecai.
10.19.16 | Opeth - Orchid |
pjquinones747
10.19.16 | I had never thought of Opeth as being melodeath since I associate them so much with prog but why not both? Love those guys. |
Deathconscious
10.19.16 | yeah Opeth are not melodeath. never thought of them as a death metal band at all. |
Itwasthatwas
10.19.16 | Of the recs above definitely prioritize:
Garden of Shadows - Oracle Moon
Hypocrite - Into the Halls of the Blind
Intestine Baalism - Banquet in the Darkness
Arghoslent - Hornets of the Pogrom
Those are probably the best of the bunch.
And then in addition to all the other stuff rec'd consider checking out
Sacrilege - Lost in the Beauty you Slay
Eucharist - Mirrorworlds |
EvoHavok
10.19.16 | Apart from what's been already rec'd, try:
Serpent - Cradle of Insanity
Unanimated - Ancient God of Evil
Pandemonium - Insomnia |
pjquinones747
10.19.16 | Hypocrite and Hypocrisy are different bands, got it. Thought it might've been a typo before I did a quick search. I got to Be'lakor last night and they're already my jam. |
Itwasthatwas
10.19.16 | Both are good. Into the Halls of the Blind is kind of a unique and one off album, but really a standout. Hypocrisy has a number of good albums - I prefer the latter era stuff (Virus/Extreme Divinity) but the run of albums with Abducted, Final Chapter, S/T is great too.
|
pjquinones747
10.19.16 | They're high priority on my list. Along with the ones you mentioned I'm probably checking out Blut Aus Nord, Edge of Sanity, and Kalmah to start. |
Itwasthatwas
10.19.16 | BAN are a black metal band that varies between melodic BM (Memoria Vetusta 1,2,3,) and more industrial-influenced and dissonant stuff (The Work Which Transforms God and 777 series). Their debut, Ultima Thulee is a bit more traditional BM influenced by the second wave.
They're well worth checking out and the Memoria Vetusta series is an easy step from melodeath. But if you're doing the melodeath thing right now I would save them for later. |
pjquinones747
10.19.16 | Heard that. Black Metal has been a daunting task for me to get into so far so anything more melodic or progressive generally helps as with any naturally dissonant or chaotic sounding genre. |
BallsDeep
10.19.16 | black metal is always daunting to newer metalheads but its actually one of the more beautiful genres of metal when you include its different facets; blackgaze, melodic black metal, symphonic black metal etc. It's also one of the most diverse genres I recommend you check out Hawks black metal list it has all the essentials. |
pjquinones747
10.19.16 | Will do! |
ShadowRemains
10.19.16 | apophis - down in the valley |
Shadowmire
10.19.16 | definitely check opeth's first two records.. plenty to love if you like melodeath, doesn't matter what genre you think the band falls under |
pjquinones747
10.19.16 | I consider myself a pretty big Opeth fan. First two records are amazing. |
Shadowmire
10.19.16 | ah, i was just going off the brief little discourse on them earlier
not really my genre but check edge of sanity and carcass - heartwork as have been mentioned already; also, while it's straight up swedish dm, you should listen to dismember - like an ever flowing stream |
Flugmorph
10.19.16 | whispered |
Flugmorph
10.19.16 | IM AN OPETH FAN ACTUALLY |
Shadowmire
