| Music For You 6
Don't mind me, just dropping some albums you gotta check out. | 1 | | Light Asylum In Tension
[Synthpop/Post-Punk] What could be classified as Joy Division worship meets Depeche Mode blood sacrifices. This album has a super interesting sound going for it with a more synthetic, electropop approach to the post-punk genre for an aggressive, dark aesthetic. Final two tracks slay.
Spin: Dark Allies, Skull Fuct | 2 | | JK Flesh Nothing Is Free
[Industrial/Dub] Dark, crunchy industrial record with a emphasis on a more "approachable" sound by introducing a "dubstep" structure (without actually indulging in that specific genre) to what would otherwise be some harsh noise. The album may overstay its welcome a tad, but for what it offers you can have a grand ol' time with the eerie and daunting beats.
Spin: Hide & Seek, Boundless Submission, Pleasurer | 3 | | The Crash Pony Ride
[Pop/Indie Rock] One of the smoothest, sassiest, and catchiest pop records ever made. If it wasn't for a song or two derailing the flow on the latter half of the record, it would go down as a stone cold classic. The vocals are incredibly unique, and have a harsh drawl akin to Billy Corgan, but also very sugar coated and smooth grip like MIKA or Kevin Barnes. They back some absolutely smooth and classy instrumental work that mixes slick electronics and cutesy organic elements such as music boxes, violins, or xylophones to give the album a welcoming feel, even if that feeling is a bit dirty. DONT SLEEP ON LAUREN ITS AMAZING.
Spin: Pony Ride, Big Ass Love, Stay, Lauren, Solitudinarian, Reasons to Sign | 4 | | Andrew Bird Are You Serious
[Chamber Pop] Andrew Bird's latest is kind of a deviation from his earlier stuff. While his ensemble of stringed instruments and classical undertones are still prominent, there is a very prominent streamlining and simplification of these elements. It's all packaged into a very tight and concise pop record. Andrew Bird relies heavily on channeling swagger and class for his performance on this record, and it works perfectly for the slow burning alternative rock backing he's presenting. Don't miss out on this one, cuz its easily one of 2016s best and a testament to Andrew Bird being able to change his sound to great effect.
Spin: Capsized, Roma Fade, Left Handed Kisses, Are You Serious, Valley of the Young | 5 | | Bago Loyal Forever
[RnB/Soul/Trip-Hop] Now this one is an interesting little ditty. Loyal Forever is a double album where both sides are the same songs, however, they're so vastly changed in presentation that they become completely different songs. Forgive Them is a very cute and seductive soul/RnB record, while For They Do Not Know is darker, more atmospheric trip hop sound. This collection of tracks succeeds in making both sides of the record sound completely different and fresh, while also giving the lyrics and subject matter at hand new faces and meanings when viewed under a different lens. So if you're looking for something cute or something solemn, this record delivers to excellent effect.
Spin: Just listen to the whole thing, typing a list out would be a nightmare on the eyes. | |
